57. His Majesty Is Still Alive

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

The steward began to speak and then hesitated. “What’s the matter? Are you trying to hide something from me?” Keqi’s cold voice had an undertone of the crown prince’s authority.

People standing by felt pressure from him. They all bowed their heads and instinctively held their breath.

“No, please forgive me, Your Highness. I just don’t know how to explain it. I should be responsible for His Majesty’s injury. It’s my fault for not taking good care of His Majesty. I can hardly absolve myself from the blame. Your Highness, you can punish me at will.” The steward went down on his knees. Although the corridor was covered with carpet, the floor was hard because of marble tiles under the carpet. The steward knelt down with a bang.

The steward was the king’s man. Although Keqi was not sure of the steward’s loyalty to his grandfather, the king trusted the steward completely. In the past two years, the king was always ill and the power of the monarch was slowly passed into others royal family members’ hands, but this man was until very recently the steward of the Imperial Palace. During this period, some people had tried to set him up because they wanted to place their trusted followers in this key position so that they can keep the king under strict surveillance. However, no matter how hard they tried to frame him up, the king was adamant that this man should be the steward of the Imperial Palace.

Seeing the guilt look on the man’s face, Keqi sighed and said, “Uncle Ao, you…” He helped Mr. Ao stand up and continued, “Let’s put the matter aside for the time being. Now we should focus on His Majesty.”

Mr. Ao stood up with the help of Keqi. The young man standing in front of him was the crown prince of Leiluo Kingdom. Two years ago he was found to be the king’s grandson. In order to confirm his identity, a paternity test was done. The result proved that he was indeed the son of the former crown prince.

He was forceful, uncompromising and determined, and had an aura of authority, just like the king of the year. Although he had just spent two years with the royal family, you had to admit that he was gifted at politics. Mr. Ao believed that Keqi had the ability to rule Leiluo Kingdom.

“His Majesty has been poisoned. It’s a very common pesticide, but His Majesty…”

“But His Majesty’s immune system is too weak to defend against the poison, right?” WIth that, Keqi pushed open the door and walked in. Mr. Ao asked others to guard the door and then followed Keqi in.

There was no one in the room, except for the king and the doctor who was in charge of the king’s treatment. Keqi felt strange and had an ominous premonition.

Step by step, he slowly walked over. As he approached the bed, he felt as if his whole body was being held down with liquid steel, weighing his feet down to the ground. The weight of inexplicable fear pressed on him, and he was breathless.

He stood beside the bed and looked down at the king’s serene sleeping face.

Keqi reached out and wanted to touch the king. His hand was trembling. Damn it! He had never been so helpless. He didn’t hate this dying old man. On the contrary, he had developed quite an affection for the king in the past two years. So at this moment, he was so afraid that…

Suddenly, someone grasped his hand. Keqi immediately opened his eyes. Droplets of sweat were welling up on his forehead and rolling down his face. Mr. Ao took his hand and said, “His Majesty is still alive.”

Mr. Ao’s words sent a current of courage to Keqi’s heart. He took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. “How many days will he live?” asked Keqi.
