As Elder Jessie was still unconscious and the effect of Qiao Mo’s treatment was still not obvious, everyone was still skeptical about her so-called treatment. After Elder Jessie was carried away, Qiao Mo and Harry returned to their residence.
Qiao Mo sat on the doorstep of Harry’s house and counted the items in her bag. The medicine was in a small plastic box that she had packed into as she usually did. She had only brought five anti-inflammatory pills and had just given Jessie one earlier.
“There are still four anti-inflammatory pills and five flu pills left…”
Qiao Mo was counting when she smelled the fragrance of meat. Her stomach rumbled almost immediately.
She had been hungry for two days! She was starving!
She looked up and saw Harry roasting an antelope. The aroma was coming from it. The antelope’s skin had been roasted until it was golden and crisp, and it looked appetizing.
Qiao Mo walked over quickly and licked her lips as she asked, “Are we eating this today?”
Harry nodded. “Do you like it?”
Qiao Mo quickly nodded. She loved mutton.
Harry didn’t mind that it was hot and tore off a piece of venison leg, handing it to Qiao Mo. Qiao Mo blew on it a little and tried to take a bite, but was immediately choked by the game stench coming from it.
She handed the venison leg back to Harry uncomfortably. “You guys don’t use seasoning when roasting meat?”
Harry asked, “What are seasonings?”
An expected answer…
Qiao Mo gestured for him to wait for a moment before she ran back and took out her backpack again.
In Harry’s eyes, this hiking bag was probably like Doraemon’s pocket, as if any treasure could be taken out from it.
As Qiao Mo searched through it, she said, “Luckily, we were preparing to go for a cookout on the mountain. I brought quite a lot of things with me, but I didn’t bring much of each. We probably won’t get to use them for long.”
As she spoke, she took out her cookout bag. It was a small bag that she had bought online, specially used to store cookout equipment. There were two metal cups and four small metal plates hanging on the inside of the bag. There were also a few places in the bag that were used to store forks, spoons, and chopsticks.
Other than that, there were a few small seasoning cans the length of an index finger. They were also metal cans.
“Salt… cumin… chili powder… white pepper… MSG… I also brought a small bottle of cooking wine. This is a real treasure.” As Qiao Mo spoke, she put on a pair of medical disposable gloves and sprinkled some wine on her hands, then applied them to the antelope’s body.
She then sprinkled some white pepper and salt onto it. After the two seasonings melted over the fire, Qiao Mo sprinkled some cumin on it. Because she wasn’t sure if Harry could eat spicy food, she only sprinkled chili powder on her portion of the venison leg.
Harry looked at Qiao Mo with a strange expression. He watched as she pulled out a pile of bottles and cans he hadn’t seen before, then sprinkled a pile of powder on the antelope.
Qiao Mo roasted the venison leg again before taking a sniff and then a bite. “Tastes good! If you let me marinate it before roasting it next time, I promise it will taste even better!”
Harry stared with his beautiful eyes, his white furry ears twitching on either side of his head. “What are you doing?”
Qiao Mo gestured for Harry to eat the other venison leg. “Give it a try.”
Harry’s eyes under the mask were filled with puzzlement, but he did as he was told. The instant the venison leg entered his mouth, he froze!
He looked at Qiao Mo in disbelief. He took another bite of the venison and savored it carefully in his mouth. The strong game stench had already faded quite a bit, but there was now a fresher and saltier taste. Coupled with the texture of the venison itself, it was so fragrant that it directly struck one’s heart.
“Is it good?” Qiao Mo asked.
Harry nodded in a daze. Beastmen had long learned how to roast food with fire, realizing that this could better stimulate the fragrance of food. Although there were still some beastmen who liked to eat bloody raw food, most of them would be despised, especially by female beastmen.
But Harry had never thought it was possible to roast such delicious food over a fire.
He felt that this should be due to the powder in Qiao Mo’s hands.
“What is that?” Harry asked.
Qiao Mo waved the bottle in her hand with a smile. “It’s salt. Although the salt in your meat is enough to replenish the sodium your body needs, it will taste more delicious with this seasoning salt.”
Harry nodded, not really understanding Qiao Mo’s words. “Can you let me always be able to eat such delicious food from now on?”
Qiao Mo wanted to nod, but she felt troubled. She didn’t have a lot of seasonings in her hands. If she were to use them sparingly, they might be able to last for ten days to half a month.
But if they were to roast an entire goat every day, it would probably not even be enough for a few meals.
“I’m sorry, Harry. I only have this bit of seasoning, but I’ll try to think of a way to get as much for you, okay?” Qiao Mo reckoned that if there was seawater, she could sun some sea salt.
This way, even if she left, Harry would still be able to eat salt in the future.
Harry pondered for a moment. “Can I smell them? Maybe I can help you find these… seasonings.”
Qiao Mo nodded and gave all the cans to Harry. He opened them one by one and sniffed at them. He then took note of the few scents.
This meal was the most satisfying meal Harry had ever had in his life. The sizzling venison with fresh and salty seasoning greatly satisfied his appetite..
