Chapter 43 Maya Evergreen
With my experience at the Archery Club booth in mind, I headed to the last club on my list: History and Art Club.
Unlike the previous clubs, this one didn't seem to attract much attention. Students around the booth were chatting quietly, their interests covering a variety of art forms and historical studies.
As I approached the booth, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The students seemed genuinely excited to share their love of history and art.
"Welcome, freshman." Just then, a cheerful voice sounded in my ears, and I turned to the source of the voice involuntarily. "Would you like some potato chips?"
Standing there was a girl with a bright smile on her face. Her hair was a unique lavender, which was both eye-catching and beautiful. Her eyes were a bright blue, exuding curiosity and kindness. Her presence seemed to radiate a gentle and pleasant aura that made people feel relaxed unconsciously.
She had a comfortable aura about her and was clearly very friendly. Her overall personality was open and easy going.
She had a pretty face and a nice body, and with her innocent temperament, she could easily win the hearts of many boys in the college, and in fact, she did.
Because she is a famous character in the game.
The potato chip crumbs around the corners of her mouth showed that she was eating the chips with relish.
"Hmm? Junior? What's wrong?" She looked at me when she spoke again, and I woke up from my thoughts.
"It's okay. I'm sorry if I came off as rude," I replied, lowering my head slightly. Because it's very rude to stare at someone when they're talking to you without responding.
"Don't be so reserved, it's okay..." She waved her hand and said, "But would you like some chips?" She continued, handing me the chips in her hand.
"No thanks." I refused because I don't like potato chips very much because they have too much grease.
"Why? Take it." However, the girl in front of me refused to give in and kept moving closer to me, handing me the bag of potato chips.
"No, I don't want it."
"Why? Doesn't everyone like potato chips?" She looked very surprised when she heard my answer.
"I don't like it."
"How could that be? Everyone I've given potato chips to has accepted them." She put her finger to her lips and thought for a moment. "Ah, I see! It's because you haven't tasted them yet." This was her conclusion.
"I'm so..." I wanted to slap my forehead, but I held it in. The students around us were looking at us with obvious smiles, obviously enjoying this farce.
"No, I tried it. But I just didn't want to eat it."
"Just eat it once. Please, give it a chance." She came close to me, her blue eyes looking at me from a slightly lower angle, because she was not very tall, only up to my chest.
"Oh...thank you." I sighed. It would be too much to refuse, so I took the potato chips she handed over.
It's really tiring dealing with this girl.
"Hehehe..." Hearing her soft laughter, I felt a little warm in my heart.
But then the memories came flooding back and reminded me why I was here. The anger and hatred returned instantly.
"Hmm?" She seemed surprised by my change of expression. "Oh! Oh, I forgot to introduce myself."
She turned around and spoke again in a cheerful tone.
"I'm Maya Evergreen." Her eyes sparkled, obviously anticipating my reaction.
"Morse Scott." I bowed my head again and answered. "Nice to meet you, Maya-senpai. You are the top student in the second grade, right?"
When she heard what I said, she showed an understanding expression and nodded.
"Hehehe...that's right...everyone knows me." She muttered softly, but I still heard it because she was too close.
I pulled away a little, took out the application form and handed it to Maya.
"Here is my application, can you help me with it?" I didn't want to have any more contact with this overly happy girl because her behavior was a bit too much for me. I just wanted to complete the application as soon as possible and leave.
She took the application with a smile, seemingly unfazed by my lack of enthusiasm. "Of course! I'd love to help. We're always happy to welcome new members who share our passion for history and art."
As she filled out the necessary information, I noticed her handwriting was neat and tidy, in stark contrast to my own hurried and utilitarian writing style.
But this is to be expected, since I have never paid much attention to my handwriting.
"Done." She handed the form back to me. "Now you just need to wait for the notification about the company orientation session."
"Thank you." I nodded and was about to leave.
"What got you interested in the History and Art Club?" Maya asked, curiosity evident in her tone.
"To see the world from a different perspective." I simply answered without giving any further details. Conversations like this were not within my interests, as the reason I joined the club was completely different from what they expected.
“It’s awesome!” Maya enthuses, her eyes sparkling with genuine enthusiasm. “We explore various historical moments, work on art projects, and even hold debates. It’s a great way to broaden your horizons and learn new things.”
"I see." I responded calmly.
Maya's reaction was exactly as I expected. Her enthusiasm for the club was infectious, but I found it hard to relate to her excitement.
"If you have any questions about the club or anything else, you can always ask me," Maya said, her smile still bright.
"Okay." I nodded in response.
"Well, I hope to see you at the briefing," she said cheerfully.
“Yeah,” I replied, feeling a sense of relief and a little bit of anticipation that this interaction was finally coming to an end.
"This woman is really hard to deal with." With this thought in mind, I left the club booth and headed towards the training ground.
However, when I was leaving, I felt a dazzling gaze coming from the side, as if someone was staring at me fiercely.
When I turned around, I thought it was Irina, but unexpectedly, it was not her, but Xierwei.
'It seems she is still mad at me,' I thought.
Just like that, I turned around and continued walking towards the training ground. However, that piercing gaze never left.
......
'What a strange man.'
Maya thought to herself as she watched the departing freshman. This was the first time she had seen someone react this way to her.
'Does he really not like chips?'
She thought. She had never been refused a potato chip when she offered it to anyone, so she naturally assumed that everyone liked potato chips.
However, there was one thing Maya had forgotten, or more accurately, something she was completely unaware of.
She is one of the most popular people in the entire academy. As the top student in the second grade and recognized as the "most beautiful goddess" in the academy, she is naturally an admired person in the eyes of most people.
This admiration has nothing to do with gender, even girls can't hate her because she has a good personality and is helpful.
But Maya knew nothing about this because she was a bit of a fool.
'He looks very sad...what happened to him?' Maya asked herself. The man just now looked very sad, as if he was in great pain.
'He said he wants to join our club, so I can find out more later,' she thought happily.
At this moment, her friend's voice came from behind her.
"What happened to that guy just now? Why was he so rude?" It was her friend Emilia, who walked up from behind.
"What do you mean?" Maya asked in confusion. 'Was he rude?' she asked herself. He was the one who apologized first, and she could see that he was sincere.
However, this is a common occurrence for Maya, as people always freeze when they see her for the first time. She doesn't think it's because of her beauty, but her friends all know the truth.
"How dare you reject my dear Maya's kindness!" Emilia threw herself on Maya and hugged her from behind. "No one has the right to reject such a lovely person like you!"
"Don't do this~ It's so embarrassing, Emilia."
Maya's protests clearly didn't impress Emilia, who continued her teasing. "Come on, Maya! Who would say no to you when you're like this?" She poked Maya's cheek with her finger.
Maya blushed slightly and gently pushed Emilia away. "Come on, Emilia, stop teasing me."
Emilia laughed and nagged Maya playfully. "Don't be shy. By the way, your History and Art Club has a new member. This guy is so lucky." She muttered and made a dissatisfied expression. "It seems I have to be careful... Men are like wolves." She muttered softly.
Maya blinked, looking confused. "Lucky? Emilia, what do you mean?"
Emilia smiled slyly. "Don't be stupid, Maya. You're the star of the academy. It's not surprising that he wants to join your club. Who wouldn't want to?"
Maya's expression remained one of genuine confusion. "I don't understand, Emilia. What does this have to do with him joining the club?"
Emilia's smile grew even wider. "You're so cute. Sometimes I wonder if you're just pretending to be stupid."
"Don't say that! I'm not an idiot!" Maya protested with an angry look on her face.
"Bing!"
"Alas... You really have no idea how great your 'destructive power' is." Emilia sighed and complained softly, while trying to stop the nosebleed that was about to flow.
Just as they were about to continue chatting, they noticed someone walking towards them.
It was a blonde girl with blue eyes. Although it was the first time they saw this girl, Emilia's "radar" immediately locked onto her.
"This girl is a beauty." Emilia's eyes, which had been trained countless times to pick out beauties, came to the conclusion instantly. Even though the girl was wearing glasses, she still looked very pure.
At least that was the case until they noticed the aura around the girl.
"She seems angry?"
When the girl came over, she looked a little annoyed. Of course, Emilia, as the "perfect girl analyst", immediately caught the reason.
"She must have had a fight with her boyfriend. Hehehe...it would be fun to snatch her away from her boyfriend, hehehe!"
She smiled triumphantly in a low voice, as if she had seized a godsend opportunity, and she wanted to shout to the sky to thank God immediately.
However, her radar also has a misjudgment time, that is, whether a girl has a boyfriend. But after all, no one is perfect.
Maya didn't have Emilia's complicated thoughts. She just saw a classmate and gave him a friendly and warm smile. "Hello! Would you like some potato chips?" She handed over a bag of potato chips with her usual enthusiasm.
Silvi looked at Maya with a slightly squinted expression, as if evaluating something.
Maya tilted her head and looked at the girl in confusion. "What's wrong?" However, she was not unfamiliar with this kind of look. "If you don't like this flavor of potato chips, I also have spicy, tomato, and crispy ones." She immediately approached Silvi with excitement in her eyes.
"Uh... no, thank you." Sylvie replied, with a hint of surprise and confusion in her tone. Maya's enthusiasm seemed to overwhelm her, and the irritation and narrowed eyes on her face had long disappeared.
Emilia tried to hide her interest in Sylvie, but couldn't quite shake off her previous assumptions. She stole a glance at Maya, wondering if the usually confused Maya had noticed anything was wrong.
But Maya didn't notice it at all. She still had a friendly smile and said undauntedly, "Come on, try it...it's really delicious."
"Well...I really-"
“Come on, it’s really delicious.”
"please--"
This is the beginning of Sylvie's "potato chip nightmare"...
That day she learned that there are 300 different types of potato chips in the world, and in her dream she saw potato chips chasing her...
