Trinitas Mundus - The Story of Saint Knight Ray
Episode 63: The Battle of Millice Valley: Part Three
Oct. 7, 6 a.m.
When the morning sun began to rise and the surroundings were brightened, the Demon Army general, Yurki Bindler, was biting his back teeth hard into the sight that spread in front of him.
In the meadow, the bodies of the orcs scattered there, which we had cleaned up from the front last night, and to the left and right of the enemy position five hundred meters away were the bodies of the families piled up like tsuka.
(How much damage have you done... Five hundred, no, eight hundred have been done. In just one day, two thousand and five hundred troops were cut to half. That's just a tenth of the enemy's allies, too. We fought an unsavory battle... what shall we do? If you pull it off here, you'll just be mocked by Lord Asla, Lord Balthazar. “So I told you, there's nothing you can do with our hands," he laughs. I can't back down like this......)
The damage on the Demonic side at that point was that seven hundred orcs were dead and about a hundred orcs were injured.
The lower number of injuries compared to the number of dead is due to Yurki's restraint on force pushes. Even as the injured orcs tried to retreat, they were pushed by allies marching one after the other from the rear, unable to retreat, and were killed one after the other.
Furthermore, the blood of his allies soaked his feet, and those who fell continued. And once he fell, he was stomped to death by an ally coming from behind him before he got up, without getting up. Not only was he killed by his enemies, but there were a few orcs crushed by his allies, which led to a major battle down.
He decided that the damage to the orcs would not be foolish and that, once it was done, he would let them pull it off the battlefield.
(I have to stop. I need to pull back and get back on track. But I'm not going to back off like this...)
As the morning sun rose and the dawn lit up the battlefield, the Demonic Crusaders advance team also lost their voice to the appearance of the battlefield, which gradually revealed its full content.
The young knight begins to vomit in front of a pile of cadavers, half-opening their mouths and staring with vain eyes, at the earth base of a self-built oak cadaver.
At the end of his gaze, it was because there were numerous scattered bodies of orcs that were crushed and did not retain their original form.
The orcs slowly descend as the advance party watches. The sound of the battle, which lasted twelve hours since yesterday, interrupted and the silence returned to the meadows of the morning.
Hamish decided to prioritize the recovery of a tired young man in this gap where the orcs had fallen.
"Squad three, hit alert! Rest the others while you can! Somebody get ready for dinner!
Hamish doesn't even show the fatigue of the battle from yesterday, giving instructions one after the other.
(Two hours, no, an hour is fine. If I can get some time off, I can figure it out. But why did the enemy back down? If you asked for backup, it would be troublesome...)
He calls out to the wounded and starts eating a warm meal, still in blood-coated armor.
(How many people in this smell of blood can eat decent meals? Even my younger ones would be tough......)
"If you are a healer and have recovered your magic, treat the injured! Ray! If you're awake, come here!
Hamish called Ray and decided to hear his thoughts on future enemy movements.
(Ray is also talented as a military teacher. I didn't expect to come up with that formation in this situation. Or did you know? At least not the tactics used in the Tria continent......)
In this world with a long-range weapon called magic, dense formations like the Formation did not develop.
Speaking of formation, not only are there simple horizontal and vertical squadrons, but the idea of operating by infantry, cavalry, archers, mages and other soldier species is also less developed.
When forming an army, consideration may be given to some topography and enemy combat forces, and the distribution of military species may be changed, but the basics consist of cavalry dominated by knights, to some extent incorporating mercenary infantry and archers as auxiliary combat forces.
Even on the mercenary side, due to their main source of income, escort duties, they usually make swords, spears and bows into a balanced cross-section, and the way in which they decide on roles and fight for each of the soldier races like this one has never been taken much.
The only exception can be said to be the fourth unit of the Mercenary Corps of Markat, which has become a special formation specialising in cavalry assault. This was not so much a result of thinking about operations as of using the chivalrous mercenaries effectively, but Hamish was acknowledging their effectiveness.
(This formation is effective against enemies without magicians. A larger shield would also have considerable defense against the bow. Longer spears against cavalry will not tear you apart into enemies unless there is a considerable difference in power. Combining cavalry forces like Squad Four with this would make it a pretty powerful force... after all, maybe Ray was a knight in some country...)
With that in mind, Ray with a sleepy face approached me.
"I'm sorry. I need to talk to you about something."
Ray is amazed at Hamish's reluctant words and the absence of the captains.
"Once the enemy pulled. What do you think of the enemy's intentions?
He was aware that there were no enemies around him, but he had come to Hamish before he heard more about it, so the situation could not swallow.
Hamish told me that the enemy had fallen with the dawn, that this one had also entered a break in that gap, and once again, I looked around the battlefield.
(Fine, that's damaging. My amateur, I don't know how much damage the enemy has done, but Mr. Hamish said it's over five hundred dead. Two thousand in the first attack, a thousand and five hundred here, there are still, at least, a thousand. With all that fighting power, you could have kept attacking me, but why not do it? Think about it with the intention of becoming the enemy commander...)
He intends to be an enemy commander and will see the battlefield again.
(I lost nearly half my fighting power in just one day after I hung it yesterday. The enemy does not use Winged Demons (Lesser Demons), Imps, or Great Ghosts (Auga), including Pursuit. It's all just ghosts. That means the Middle-Haunted are the only ones who are partitioning this place. I don't know if it's him or her, but he's under siege, but he can't be wiped out, and he'll do a lot of damage in pursuit. If he has a superior officer, a commander, he could replace the site commander who keeps causing damage)
That's all I thought about and thought back about yesterday's fight.
(There was a Winged Demon woman yesterday. That's on its own too...... in the first place, the Augs have attacked alone too. What Mr. Alberic and Stella saw during the reconnaissance was what the Winged Demons and the Great Ghosts were arguing about... and so is this one, but maybe the Demons aren't a single rock either. I don't know what's going on in the other country, but maybe there's something like a power struggle among demons. If so, how is the Commander of the Middle-Ghost going to move? You want help from the Winged Demons, the Great Ghosts? Or do you bet your pride and keep attacking alone? Isn't that what's bothering you right now? If you attack me alone, I can buy you some time...)
He will explain to Hamish what he has just thought.
"There is no certainty at all, but I think the Demons are not a single rock..."
Hamish listens to the story with a serious look on his face.
"In other words, we need to be able to collaborate with the Winged Demons, the Great Ghosts, and the Medium Ghosts. I see, maybe it does...... so what do you think we should do after this?
"We have to keep this place alive for the next three days, right? It's important not to reduce your combat power first, but monotonous combat will give your enemies time to think about countermeasures. And one more thing. If you do too much damage to your enemies, you may be called for reinforcements. Of course, there is a possibility that the enemy will retreat, but this way, I don't think we should make as big a difference in the situation as we can..."
Hamish nodded, "Specifically?" and prompt ahead.
"Sometimes I show you the attitude of striking out of here, watching the enemy attack. You'll be bothered by that response, especially if you detour it and make it look like it's headed back. Later, consolidate your defenses as much as possible to inflict enemy attacks. Now we just have to buy some time..."
Ray was desperately trying to keep his anxiety out of his face as he explained to Hamish.
(Mercenaries like Mr. Hamish are pretty much cornered for wanting my opinion. If I speak with confidence, I might feel a little more comfortable. It's not even like I'm a military teacher, but I can only play here)
Immediately after hearing his words, Hamish assembled the captains and went into future discussions.
"The enemy doesn't seem to be a single rock. If we fight well, we can buy you some time. Ray, explain your thoughts to everyone. You're more credible than that."
He turned the smile he had been forced to make to the word and explained it to the captains.
Valeria Harvey, captain of the Fifth Squad, who heard his explanation, was remembering what he looked like four months ago, when he had been assigned to his own squad.
(At that time, you felt like you could use magic and spears, but you didn't know the right or left. That is now the Master of the Mercenary Corps of Markat. I'm not really sure, I know I'm about to cry, but I'm trying my best to make it look confident. Even I'm going to believe it, really. I want this kid and Ash and Stella to survive. I'd like to see what happens next. Well, maybe I can help you for a second......)
Valeria gently raises her hand and begins asking questions where the story is separated.
"Can I ask you one thing? I'm talking about giving a little bit to the enemy, but how exactly do we do that?
"You'll be better at Mr. Valeria and the others there than I am. Don't you have a good idea?
In response to Valeria's inquiry, Ray was responding in a mild tone.
(Mr. Valeria knows. What I can't do. Honestly, I don't know what the actual battle is. I have no idea how to deceive (feint) like a detour attack)
Valeria laughs and begins to explain as she looks around at the captains.
"I have had the second squad of Zenga's husband drill a hole and run the light-hearted guys of the fifth squad (of which) and the third squad of Lazareth's husband. Ask Brother Al to come in there and snipe at a target that's far away. The enemy commander will freak out if he sees that strong bow. Naturally, you'll be back soon to make sure there's no damage."
And as simple as that, "The point is, you scare the enemy, okay?," he added.
Ray nods and sees Hamish.
"Okay, I'll go with that line, but the timing of the first shot, it's almost time. When the enemy returns, cool his liver thoroughly with Al's strong bow!
Oct. 7 at 9 a.m.
Yurki Bindler, general of the Middle-Ghost Nation, returned to the battlefield after a close meeting with the manipulators (Tamer) under his command.
(There is no change in pushing the force. But I had lost sight of my purpose. Inviting the fatigue and impatience of the enemy, I forgot this...)
He decided to divide a thousand and two hundred orcs into four teams of three hundred each, one strike at a time.
Previously, he thought the failure lay in putting too much force into the battlefield and limiting movement between allies.
(Even 300 of them in a squad are more than enemies. While he's attacking from the front, he pretends to attack from the side, destroying the enemy spears that stick out. There can't be that many weapons available. Besides, he must have lost his weapon to some extent in last night's attack. Calm down and attack, the victory is mine)
In fact, the weapons of the Crusaders advance party were severely worn out.
In particular, the spear was severely damaged and over thirty bottles had already become unusable.
The sword also shed its cleavage with the oaks' blood paste, wiping the blood paste while resting, but in a difficult condition to say adequate care.
Three hundred orcs walk towards the front line on Yurki's orders.
The young soldiers couldn't help but be terrified of what they looked like because they were definitely approaching one step at a time, not a crazy assault, like yesterday.
Hamish feels darkened when the battle ahead becomes tougher on the approaching oak figure.
(Has the enemy commander regained his composure... or has the Dark Clouds pushed him... well, let's see what we can do)
Hamish sends Alberic a signal with his eyes.
On his signal, Alberic and twenty archers move forward slowly.
The orcs were still over a hundred meters away and never stormed at the archers.
Alberic thinks he can get a little closer and moves forward at once with the archers. And where the distance from the enemy was fifty meters, he set up a bow.
"Targets can be anything. But make sure you hit it! Start shooting!"
Twenty arrows are unleashed against the orcs under Alberic's decree.
The archer's arrow, other than Alberic, goes to the oak, which is about fifty meters away, but Alberic's unleashed arrow was further back, towards the oak, which is about a hundred meters away.
Twenty arrows pierce the oak in the front row, but only about five of them fall, and those who, although hit, were not fatally injured, pull through the pierced arrows and start walking again.
In the meantime, Alberic's unleashed arrows were well beyond the front row of the enemy and stuck in the face of one oak in the middle of the rear row.
Behind it is Tamer, who manipulates this team, and he is upset to see how it is.
Yurki also watched the situation from the rear.
(Is that Lord Balthazar's bowman? You have terrible arms. We have to be careful to keep Tamers out of his range.)
Tamer, who was upset, returned to me and ordered me to attack the archers, but they were retreating into the formation and the attack did not come in time.
And Tamer did not enter within two hundred meters of the position and was surrounded by the walls of Oak, his escort, as if he were afraid of Alberic's arrows.
Having seen how it goes, Hamish makes a bitter face.
(It had a minimal effect, but it didn't get to the point of giving fear... still have to be a power battle...)
