Trinitas Mundus
Episode Four: The City of Cloyk
In the eyes of the Rays, Deoddard, who rested in Rezam for a whole day, looked perfectly better.
(Looks like it worked yesterday when I got a day off. You're an old man, and you don't have to force yourself to go on every day, do you? Looks like I'm in a pretty hurry to say I'm going home slowly... is that what it was like when I was a merchant?
After leaving Rezam and staying overnight in a small village on the way, we head for the city of Cloik and further south down the street.
The city of Croix is almost halfway between the Wang capital Fonce and the border city of Morton and is the largest city in northern Lax.
Around the cloike was a rich countryside, with successive hills patchwork with crops such as wheat, pasture and beans and potatoes, and Ray was fascinated by its landscape every time he crossed the hill.
(Beautiful landscape. It's like Mei Eung Hill in Hokkaido. Is it wheat or pasture that looks like a green carpet? Is the brown spot full of potatoes? I'd like to take a leisurely stroll around these places with a horse... so much so that it feels so innocent to be armed and riding a horse...)
There was a forest between the hills, but not so large a forest, and there was just a simple fence around the countryside.
Sometimes it's just called a lake country, with many small ponds between the hills and streams flowing through them. As a result, many stone eyeglass bridges were erected on the streets that continued between the hills.
In addition to the main north-south streets now underway, the city of Cloik also flourishes as a trading city, as streets stretch from east to west.
For this reason, as we approached the city, the number of travellers travelling gradually increased as well.
Crossing a large hill, when my vision opened, I could see the city of Croix.
At the beginning a small high hill begins to be seen, and at its top is built something like a lord's hall.
As we bypassed that hill, a river was flowing on the south side, and on the other side across the hill, we could see the city spreading.
The river width is about thirty meters. A splendid stone bridge is erected there.
On the south side of that bridge, on the city side of Cloik, there was a small building like a checkpoint.
What looked like a checkpoint had a toll station to pay for the bridge's passage taxes, and I didn't do screening or anything to get into the city.
(Is that it? Aren't they going to take an entry tax? Only 10e (elle) per person of toll and 20e of horses?
questionable, Ray approached Deoddard, who was accustomed to traveling,
"There are no walls in the city of Croix, are there? Are there many cities like this?
"Right. There are quite a few in the central part of Lax and in the southern part of Caerm. You can't make a free-trade city without these walls without security."
Reminds me of the long idle countryside until I entered the city,
"That means you're pretty safe from around here, huh?
"No, not necessarily. Sure, security is good near the city. But if you're a few kilometers from the city, there's still a lot of demons and bandits out there. You can't be alarmed."
(You did have a lot of little woods. If I could lurk over there, it would certainly be hard to spot. If you get attacked a few kilometers away, it takes more than an hour to contact the defense or the vigilante. It can't be like calling the police on a cell phone like Japan, so it's such a hard story for a bandit to escape)
At that time, Ray was obsessed with the landscape around him and was unaware that Deodard was not feeling well. Though not very pale, I didn't notice it because I was able to talk normally and didn't show tired bareback.
Once again today, Deoddard was ill and behaved normally by taking his usual medication. Stella was aware of that, of course, but Deoddard stopped her and never told them.
Upon entering the city of Cloik, the beautiful streets, united by white walls on reddish brown roofs and cobbled brown wood, were spreading.
The road south of the bridge is wide, but the alley stretching from left to right is narrow enough to be difficult to get around even with Deodard's light carriage.
A few hundred meters further, there was a circular square, with many tents twisted together.
Various ingredients are placed under the tent, making it a market like the French Marche.
Their arrival time was a little late before 4pm, but the market is enthusiastic with shoppers, and they proceed with the carriage so as to spark the housewives rushing to their homes.
Passing the market, Deoddard has spoken out in front of one big inn.
"Today's inn is not here."
The inn is a large four-story building, and when you lay a carriage across the front door, a porter appears and carries his luggage in.
Ray thought, "It's like an old hotel in Europe I saw on TV."
"That's a big inn. Is this the biggest inn in the city?
"I don't think so. The other inn is even bigger, but this one cooks better. So you always stay in this inn when you get here."
Deoddard's story was that there was a branch of Deoddard's Chamber of Commerce in the city, which he had visited several times.
The four were guided by Bellman and passed to the large room on the fourth floor, the suite room.
"I'm a little tired, so Noon stays in his room. Ray, I don't care if you do what you always do."
Ray, who saw Deoddard's complexion, said, "I don't have a great complexion, are you okay?" I ask,
"It's okay. I just need to lay down a little bit... Stella, I'm sorry, but can you get me some water?"
Deoddard took out the pills he always took, and took a breath,
"It's all right now. I'm feeling better for dinner. Never mind. Go."
Ray and Ashley head to the backyard, as usual, but
"Mr. Deoddard, are you okay? Maybe we should stay here tomorrow."
"Right. Will you stay in this cloic tomorrow for a reason..."
Ashley also cares about Deodard's health and agrees to stay in this city. And reluctantly said, "I'd like to go to the city with you tomorrow... what do you think?," he adds in a low voice.
(Is it because I went out with Stella in the meantime? These places are adorable......)
"Right. I thought it would be better with Ash, too. Let's go out tomorrow."
Ashley said, "Oh well. Ray too......" he mutters, slightly blushing.
The two move their bodies in the backyard for about thirty minutes.
Here recently, Ray had placed more specific gravity on training his long sword than his spear.
"You're getting a lot better. Want to do a mock fight for once?
"Hmmm...... I'll get used to it a little later. It's not as tight as a spear yet. Besides, it's almost dinner time."
After Ray and Ashley both left the room, Deoddard whipped his tired body and was headed to the equipped desk.
And finish writing some letters and put them in an envelope.
"Stella, come here," he says to Stella, standing at the entrance to the room.
Stella slowly approached him.
"If Non falls and dies unconscious, give this letter to someone you can trust."
"Someone I can trust...... who are you talking about?
"Ray, you and Ashley, if you're here, you're Morkley, head of the Cloik branch of the Deodard Chamber of Commerce. You got it."
Stella nodded silently and Deoddard was content with it too.
By the time Ray and Ashley came back, did the pills work and Deoddard's complexion had improved considerably.
But Ray and Ashley, worried about his body, propose to stay here in Cloik tomorrow.
"Why don't you stay here tomorrow to take the fatigue of Lord Deoddard? Sorry for the inconvenience, but me and Ray would like to take a little stroll around this city..."
"Non also wanted to stay here tomorrow. Well, have fun tomorrow with you and Ray. I want to go in the morning, too."
Ray and Ashley are horny. And where you want to go, when you ask where it is,
"What, we've known each other for a long time here at the Kreuk branch, and we're not just going to meet the guy"
The four headed to the dining room on the ground floor.
When I came in, it was full of luxury, the table was hung with a white cross, and Ray was a little carried away when it was more of a fine restaurant than a dining room.
(Wow, that looks like a expensive restaurant... Deoddard said it's because it's a good meal, but it sure doesn't feel weird with three stars on it... you're nervous about places like this...)
Like pushing Ray's back, which is whimsical,
"It doesn't matter, this is it. I know the manager well, and I won't let him kick me out for making a little noise. Ha ha!
Ray takes a look at Ashley, but she doesn't look particularly concerned, and follows the guide with dignity. Stella walks right behind Deodard, so he can't see the look on his face, but he thought it must be the same as usual.
(Maybe I'm the only one who feels awesome? Regardless of Mr. Stella, how can Ash be so prestigious? Could it be, like, this young lady? Even though your father is a mercenary, he's a super celebrity...)
When guided to the deepest table, the meal begins.
The food was not a course dish, but a form of picking up a large plate, and Ray didn't really care, and he was able to get a meal.
(Good for you. Now if it was a course dish or something, I might not have felt like eating it...)
After meals baked sweets and sweet wines are served.
By then, there were quite a few more people around, and inside the restaurant they were crouching.
"Noon goes back to his room, but Ray, if you guys want to have some more drinks, there's a liquor store in the back."
Behind the restaurant is a heavily made bar counter, served by a bartender dressed in formal attire.
The Rays said they would have a few more drinks, broke up with the Deodards and headed to the bar.
Deoddard was slowly climbing the stairs.
"The fourth floor is tight. Stella, will you give me a hand?"
You couldn't do it during the meal, or Deoddard seemed ill again.
"Has the effect of the medicine fallen... I've been talking about the pharmacist and when the interval between taking the medicine is getting shorter, I've been talking about the end of it... Apparently, the end of the day is going to be this city..."
Deoddard borrowed Stella's shoulder and managed to get back to her room.
The next morning, the Rays woke up, but Deoddard can't stay awake with his painful breath.
"Mr. Deoddard, are you okay! Stella, what about the pills?!
"You drank earlier..."
Ray quickly prepares to activate the healing magic, but Deoddard stops him.
"It's no use... apparently, Noon's life is like this... I thought he'd be alive for another month or so..."
Ignoring Deoddard's words, Ray hangs his healing magic.
(ill, so increase the percentage of light to water...... there must be a lesion somewhere. If you get rid of that......)
Ray's healing magic envelops Deodard's body. Pain is removed from Deodard's expression. But as soon as the light went out, the anguish had turned back, the look of agony had returned.
"Ash, contact the innkeeper! He wants me to bring him a healer!
Ashley immediately leaps out of the room and runs down the stairs.
Ray was wondering if he could magically do something to alleviate Deoddard's suffering.
(The healing magic didn't work... it seemed a little easier while the magic was working, but it would soon go back to normal... even if I could hang it with anesthesia I could just remove the pain... yeah? Anesthesia or... Dark attributes should act on the spirit. So much so that there is the magic of paralysis. Can't you do something about it...)
He tried to hang his magic again.
"Mr. Ray. That's enough. This is life expectancy… no matter what you do more…"
"I don't like it! Until the healer comes, I'll do what I can. Let me do it..."
He blocks Deoddard's voice and creates magic with the look of all the crying.
(How can you just block the pain?... Let's try. Dark Spirits, please......)
A black light, obsidian glow appears from Ray's left hand.
He put his left hand on Deoddard's head and prayed desperately to the spirits for the pain to go away.
Deoddard was surprised by the magic, but was even more surprised that as soon as he was put on his left hand, the pain disappeared.
"Mr. Ray! This..."
Ray takes his left hand off, but Deoddard's pain was almost gone.
"I tried to block the pain. Maybe your body won't move."
Ray, who is sweating on his forehead, is breathing after saying so.
Deoddard tried to move his arm, but his arm didn't even move pickly as if it were made of lead.
"Hi, I can't seem to move down from my neck... I've never heard of magic like this..."
"In the meantime, it's first aid until the healer comes. Stella, Mr. Deoddard can't move, so I need your help..."
That's what I said, then I sat in the chair.
(I'd use a lot of magic...... a paralysis spell or something, maybe it's pretty hard. Or maybe it's because I asked you to keep your consciousness clear and not just feel the pain......)
As Ashley returned to the room, she saw Ray's figure of a tired expression and Deoddard's figure of a restful face.
"You're magically cured? Ray, are you okay? Are you out of magic?
"No, I'm just temporarily suppressing Mr. Deoddard's pain. I don't think it's healing yet. And I'm not out of magic. I think I'm just mentally tired because I did something a little complicated"
Ashley gets a complicated look at Ray's words.
"Can't Ray's magic even cure you..."
"I didn't throw a spoon at both Luke's healer and Laurus's medic for his illness... but thank God he took this pain. Because the medicine I got from Rauls finally stopped working."
That's what Deoddard says with a laugh, but the Rays can't find the words to hang on him.
"Stella, would you ask the innkeeper to hand me a letter from Lord Morkley of the Deodard Chamber of Commerce? I wrote the letter yesterday."
Stella bowed her head, "Yes," holding a letter in her bag, and went down.
