21 Close call

The situation looked good, they had 9 of their best men attacking 8 of their fishers. Normally this should be an easy victory without any casualties, yet this isn't what happened.

When the enemies saw 2 of theirs were killed they quickly formed a simply circle formation, preparing for their attack. And it was then that they got attacked. The situation seemed simple, it might take a while to break the formation but once they did, it wouldn't take long for the enemies to be defeated.

In turn, it would give the soldiers great experience in how to deal with formations, something they hadn't really practiced yet. But when the soldiers started attacking, everything went wrong.

It seemed that other than a point to fish, they also used this place as a guard post. After all, these Iceborne weren't stupid and hey, perhaps they would try to attack them at some point.

So, just after the 2 groups engaged something happened, water splattered everywhere as an armored Iceborne came jumping out of each of the fishing pits. They had an armor made out of some sort of scales and blue tridents. Their fur was also blue and didn't seem to absorb any water.

Before anyone even knew what was going on, they struck and just like that 3 of their elite soldiers died.

No matter how fast Jay and General Green would run it would still take a while for them to arrive, and thus the fighting continued.

The soldiers were now outnumbered by 3 to 1. Something they had never expected happening at this point. Yet they reacted fast and regrouped, preparing to try and break through the enemy lines to meet up with their lord.

The battle raged on bloodily, the blue-furred Iceborne were as strong as they were while the fishermen kept limiting their movements, making for a very tough battle.

Just as they were about to take an extremely high risk to break out of the encirclement they were saved. A blue ball of wind was thrown out and landed in the middle of the tight fishermen formations, making some of them stumble and fall thus successfully breaking the formation.

Seeing the battle-formation break, the seasoned soldiers quickly moved. Inevitably one of the soldiers still got killed when turning their back on the Blue-skinned Iceborne but the others managed to break their encirclement successfully.

It was then that Jay and General Green arrived. The enemies didn't even realize they existed, so they managed to killed 4 of the blue-furs before being spotted.

At this point, the battle divided into 2 fights. The remaining soldiers were fighting the fishermen while the 2 of them fought the blue-furs.

General Green was extremely surprised at how strong the scaley armor was. His F grade spear didn't even manage to penetrate it, making him having to aim for the head.

Jay also limited his strength to 50%. He didn't want the enemy to go and scatter since they might not be able to kill all of them in that case. Additionally, just slaughtering people with a big gap in strength wasn't a way to learn anything so he limited his strength to the same as theirs, only prevailing because of technique.

The first to finish their fight were surprisingly the soldiers, while the other group was defeated just a few seconds later.

Jay was glad they didn't escape underwater as them being able to stay underwater for a long period of time was a new piece of information for them.

After grabbing the weapons and armor off of the blue-furs Jay was positively surprised. The weapons were F grade and the armor was F+ grade. It should also be said that graded armor was a lot rarer compared to weapons. So despite already having some F grade weapons the only graded armor they had previously was his and Geralt's'.

Now that they had 10 pieces of F+ grade armor their Vanguard had sufficiently better battle prowess.

After everyone donned their armor they pushed all of the corpses into the fishing holes before departing again. Jay had attempted to make a culture where corpses were just corpses and no longer held any of their previous self.

This seemed to carry over to the soldiers as they didn't seem emotional at all when throwing their comrades' corpses into the water.

The vanguard that now consisted of just 7 people total kept moving. The only other thing they encountered was a peaceful Ice Elemental who just let them through.

After a bit longer they found the town. There were now standing on a small mountain and they could see the town about 200 meters in front of them. They had a 3-meter tall wall made entirely out of ice. The town itself seemed to be divided in 2 main areas.

On the west side was a militarized zone. Every person there was holding a weapon and most had armor. On the east side seemed to be citizens. Other then the very old and very young it seemed to mostly consist of Iceborne with bright colors of fur, such as green, yellow and red.

This also allowed him to more accurately plan his attack. When the main force would arrive he had decided he would kill the people on the east side first. Those brightly-colored Iceborne probably thought of themselves as nobles and so the existence of such people on the town's surrender could cause that mindset to spread.

The last thing he wished, for now, was for there to be a divide in his town. Right now military strength was the thing people valued each other with. This was the best possible scenario for a lord like himself.

Some more time passed before Geralt found him. As expected he hadn't had much difficulty getting here. From his position, he could also see the Giants were walking a decent distance behind the rest of the troops to attempt and avoid the enemy noticing them prematurely because of their stature.

And so soon, after talking for a bit they had decided on their strategy, it was time to attack!
