4 When time stops
After seeing the quest Jay didn't dare relax, with sword in hand, he looked around him vigilantly. His breathing being the only thing that made any sound. As he slowly turned he noticed a fog was silently enveloping him.
It was now he started feeling the weight of the sword in his hand. As this fog came, the veil that previously somewhat dulled his senses started dissipating alarming him immensely. After all, this veil and the lack of weight and stamina showed him he was in an illusion. Now that that disappeared he would have to be a lot more careful. After all, there was no way for an illusion to be this realistic.
After a dozen minutes of vigilantly standing around, he sheathed his sword and started slowly walking towards the village. After all, he had no idea when any potential attackers would appear, and he couldn't keep his sword up for hours on end with his current physique.
Every step he made he heard nothing but the sound of his steps, and he saw nothing but the mist around him. Normal people would feel utterly exhausted by having to keep their guard up after just a short while. Yet Jay could be seen slowly walking alert as can be, silently gazing into the mist that enveloped him.
After 5 full hours had passed he, at last, managed to make his way towards the city. In truth at first, he arrived about a kilometer to the west of the city, but by following the secure mountain range he managed to find his way there.
Before he arrived he half expected the town to be gone since it seemed he was no longer in an illusion, but alas there it was. After making his way to the gate, he once again pulled out his sword, vigilantly making his way inside. It only took him a few minutes to notice something was wrong. He had already checked multiple houses but it seemed like nobody was inside.
Since he knew it was already around 7 pm when he defeated the bandits in these days, there shouldn't be anyone outside of their houses. This once again confirmed he was no longer in an illusion.
It was only once he got to the house he started at he noticed something was different. The bow that was previously hanging on his wall disappeared. Instead, now there seemed to be a white orb embedded within the wall. However hard he tried he always seemed to lose focus after looking at it for a few seconds. It looked like it was made out of glass with mist inside of the shell.
After a good moment of hesitating, he took the spear from his back and made a stabbing motion towards the ball.
*CLANG* a loud metallic sound erupted together with a feeling that seemed to freeze his mind. As he jumped back he heard the sound of a sword just missing his leg.
As he got his bearing he saw 2 figures in front of him. One of them seemed to have defended the glass orb from his strike, yet it was hard to see. Both figures seemed impossible to have a good look at, leave alone properly fight.
He couldn't help but feel incredibly frustrated. He was stuck in a small room with enemies he could barely see in front of him. A fight that was completely in their favor.
For now, all he could do was use the superior length of his spear to keep them away, but as the spear was heavy he wouldn't be able to go at this long. The inability to focus made it difficult for him to predict the enemies' strikes, only being able to evade them due to his years of battle experience.
As the attacks kept coming in Jay couldn't help but get nervous. By now he had just suffered some small cuts on one of his hands but he knew that if this kept going the way it did he would soon have cuts that were a lot worse.
At this point he knew he had to take out the trump card he managed to get earlier, so for a moment, he held the spear with a single hand as he quickly reached into his clothes, pulling out the red lava elemental's core. He quickly bit into his tongue and dropped some blood on the core, causing it to start glowing red.
After this he kicked the red core behind the hazy attackers before flames started erupting from it, in just a few moments a 1 meter tall lava elemental stood behind the attackers.
| Mythical creature has been summoned, it will dissipate in 30 minutes |
As the system announcement came into his ears he couldn't help but let out a soft smile. Thanks to the light the elemental gave off he could attack more accurately by simply attacking the places that weren't brightened up. He didn't push them back however as that could cause them to get behind the elemental which would make him unable to see them properly again.
"Elemental, Attack the orb!"
After saying these words, all parties involved moved simultaneously.
The lava elemental attacked the misty orb, Jay attacked the figure the closest to the elemental as both the figures turned to the lava elemental to strike it.
In truth, it went way easier then he had previously expected. The elemental reached the orb first causing all the mist to immediately disperse. Just a moment later Jay's spear impaled the figure before him which became clear the instant the mist dispersed. It was a 13-year-old girl who was holding a low-quality sword which she promptly dropped after seeing the spear that impaled her.
"NOOOOOO!!!"
A cry came from his right as he saw the other figure was a boy of similar age, Now holding a mostly melted wooden club he sped towards him.
Jay scoffed at the boy movements, his approach was unsteady and the way he gripped his weapon would make every swing take more effort then it should. Jay quickly jumped towards the boy grabbing him at his wrist with one hand while using the other to lift him off of the ground.
This move stunned the boy who wasn't able to react in time at all. But before he could have any other thoughts he was promptly thrown into the lave elemental quickly killing him due to the horrendous burns.
