Episode 17 – After Finishing the Commission

Note from the Author: This chapter is written from Dion’s perspective.

“There he goes, huh.” (Smash)

“Yup, he’s gone.” (Dion)

Three people were standing there after seeing Lewin off into the city. Of the clients that commissioned adventurers, he was a rare one, and a good boy at that. The clients that we always got had the habit of looking down on us as low-ranking adventurers, and would treat us in such a condescending manner that we would have to frequently try to hold back the irritated Ahmed from rampaging or acting out. Well, that’s the norm, and it’s a common attitude for them to have.

It was true that he was scared of us at first, but he was also the first client to ever treat us in a polite, civil manner. For us, who were so used to getting pissed off by our client’s treatment, this was honestly the first time we were able to have a good time while on a commission.

“Lewin said he was independent, so why don’t we invite him to [Azure Alliance]?” (Smash)

“I understand that Smash-san took a liking to Lewin-kun, but that’s a tough decision. Since we’re going to be working in a new base city from now on, the members that we recruit have to be able to become an immediate asset to the party’s fighting force.” (Dion)

The one who liked Lewin-kun the most was probably Ahmed. The most important criteria for joining [Azure Alliance] was that the person had to get along with Ahmed. Lewin-kun was someone who met that condition, had an outstanding talent, and honestly deserved better. That ability of his to appraise plants was seriously extraordinary. Maybe in a different world, if we had met under different circumstances, we would’ve been able to be in a party together…

“Gahhhh!!! Elisa just had to cause a problem. We might have been able to work with Lewin for a long time…” (Smash)

“Smash-san, that’s not really a good way of putting it. We both know the details behind the feud between Ahmed-san and [Azurite]. It’s the other side that instigated it, so it’s unreasonable for us to expect Ahmed-san not to retaliate under those circumstances.” (Dion)

“Well, looks like it’s time to do the procedures. Let’s hurry up and get the formalities over with.” (Smash)

“Yep, that’s right. Let’s take a good rest today after reporting to the Adventurer’s Guild. I had fun while on the commission, but as always sleeping outdoors on the mountain was not great for my mental health.” (Dion)

Since the sun was already setting, I suggested we take it easy for the rest of the day. After entering the city of Grezesta, we went straight towards the Adventurer’s Guild to finish reporting the results of the commission. After we entered the Adventurer’s Guild with Ahmed at the front, mocking laughter and snide remarks immediately came flying at us from every which way, per usual. This kind of treatment had become commonplace for us after the rumors that we got kicked out of Grezesta’s Adventurer’s Guild had become widespread. Because Ahmed was here, I didn’t have to get my own hands dirty, but it made me feel really peeved.

“We’re here to report our quest was completed successfully. Hand over the reward.” (Ahmed)

One wouldn’t notice it unless they looked closely, but the receptionist lady grimaced slightly as she moved to place the burlap sack containing the quest completion reward into Ahmed’s hands. Ahmed passed the bag over to me, and I promptly checked to see if the amount inside the bag was correct.

“There are indeed 3 gold coins and 7 silver coins in here.” (Dion)

“Alright, we’re heading home then.” (Ahmed)

I quickly conveyed this information to Ahmed, since I totally understood her sentiment of wanting to leave this place as soon as possible. The three of us immediately turned heel to leave, but the receptionist lady suddenly called out to us.

“Excuse me, please wait just a moment.” (Receptionist Lady)

“Haah?” In response to the receptionist lady, Ahmed, who was already blatantly frustrated, growled back to her in an intimidating, low voice.

Hearing the threat in her voice, the receptionist jumped a little in fear and trembled as she tried to hand over another bag.

“I… was t-told to give this to you guys by the client who requested your commission.” (Receptionist Lady)

Guessing that it was from Lewin-kun, Ahmed roughly took the bag from her hands. Upon peering into the bag, we saw that there were various medicinal plants and herbs, and a boutique of beautiful, multi-colored flowers inside.

The three of us looked at each other in surprise, and then smiled fondly at the heartwarming present we received from Lewin.

…We confirmed in our hearts once again, Lewin was really a good boy.

In the remaining period of time we could stay in Grezesta, whenever we would look for Lewin-kun, we would often see the figure of Ahmed flirting with him. She was trying way too hard to act cute, but he would always have a helpless but happy expression on his face regardless. For a while, I was kind of worried that Ahmed would grow too close to Lewin and we would have trouble leaving Grezesta in the end. But when that time came, after shedding some light tears, we managed to depart with no problems.
