Episode 3 – Putting in a Commission at the Adventurer’s Guild

TL Note: Triple release today to get the story off the ground. Really excited to share this story with you all, so please enjoy!

So this was the Adventurer’s Guild. The guild of the most famous profession. I’ve heard a few things about it. First, the members of the Adventurer’s Guild differ drastically in strength and ability, and second, the Adventurer’s Guild grew to be larger than any of the other occupational guilds from the origin of a single clan.

I only heard about these things from stories and hearsay, but I had never been to the Adventurer’s Guild even once in my life. Of course, while working at the Healer’s Guild, there were frequent deliveries of potions to the Adventurer’s Guild, but I was never the one who did the deliveries.

Anyways, so far, of the people going in and out of the Adventurer’s Guild, every single one of them looked super scary. Most of the people frequenting the Adventurer’s Guild are all fierce, intimidating, muscular men. While freaking out and thinking that they hardly seem like the same species as me, I mustered up my courage and stepped inside.

Despite the wide and spacious interior, a choking, peculiar odor filled my nostrils. Even though I should be accustomed to odors due to the characteristic stink of medicinal herbs, the distinct musk of sweat mixed in with other indescribable smells was unbearable. Most of the people inside had monstrously muscular bodies too, and for some reason they seemed to be sending disapproving glances my way. Making sure not to make eye contact so as to not start any fights, I made my way over to the private reception desk for putting in quest commissions.

There were four types of counters: one for putting in quest commissions, one for reporting quest completion status, one for consulting with the Guild, and one for adventurers accepting quest commissions, of which there were ten counters just for that single purpose.

I arrived at the reception desk for putting in commissions, feeling overwhelmed by the size of the Adventurer’s Guild and the scale of the reception desks. Walking up to the counter, I waited for the words of the receptionist lady standing in front of me.

“Welcome. This is the reception desk for putting in quest commissions, how may I help you?” (Receptionist Lady)

“Yes. I would like to put in a quest commission.” (Lewin)

The unique atmosphere of the Adventurer’s Guild and the strange beauty of the receptionist woman made me extremely nervous, but I somehow managed to spit out a reply.

“Understood. Would you please tell me your name, age, profession, and the details of the quest commission you would like to make today?” (Receptionist Lady)

“Yes. My name is Lewin Jade. I am fourte– uh… no, fifteen years old. I do not currently have a profession, and the contents of the quest commission I would like to put in are related to an escort request.” (Lewin)

“You said your name was Lewin Jade-san… is that right?” (Receptionist Lady)

“Yes, it is indeed Lewin Jade…” (Lewin)

“By chance, were you working for the Healer’s Guild?” (Receptionist Lady)

“………Yes, I was working there, but… is there something wrong with that?” (Lewin)

Although it was just a customary business-like smile, the face of the receptionist lady suddenly became expressionless. When I was asked for my name and my previous employment, I was thinking it might turn out poorly, but I can’t help it. Judging by this reaction, rumors of me have probably already spread throughout the Adventurer’s Guild.

“Please wait just a moment. There is something that I must confirm.” (Receptionist Lady)

“I sincerely apologize for the wait. There doesn’t seem to be any problem in particular, so we can continue with the contents of the quest commission you would like to make today.” (Receptionist Lady)

“Really? That’s great! Ah… thank goodness…. Then by all means, please let us continue.” (Lewin)

""

Phew. Somehow things were fine. I was a little nervous for a moment, but they ended up at least hearing out… Just that, judging from the reaction of the receptionist lady, I realized that there was no way I could become an adventurer. How could I be an adventurer, I could hardly even qualify as a ruffian.

How the hell was I supposed to say this?

“Then I will repeat the request information back to you. The destination is Mount Cornello and the length of the stay is 3-4 days. Priority is given to adventurers with as low of a price point as possible, preferably adventurers with plenty of escort experience. Is that correct?” (Receptionist Lady)

“Yes. Those conditions are correct.” (Lewin)

“Then I will create the quest commission and recruit adventurers, so please come again tomorrow. Here is the quest number tag, so please show it next time you come.” (Receptionist Lady)

“Understood. I look forward to working with you.” (Lewin)

In correspondence with the receptionist lady, I bowed my head deeply and left the Adventurer’s Guild. It’s over for now, but I somehow managed to put in the quest commission.

But, it was still impossible to get this matter over with by today, huh. Well, a lot of things happened on this one day, like getting fired and whatnot, so I decided to take my time to rest at the inn.
