Vampire Primogenitor In Tokyo Ghoul Universe
Chapter 35 - Operation 'Spring Cleaning”
As Shiki looked down at Itori's headless corpse, he felt nothing but the notion that it was a shame she'd ended up this way in the end. Shiki was a person who strived to never be caught off guard. He constantly had his radar activated around him to prevent situations where he got ambushed. Despite displaying the opposite, Shiki had been aware of Itori's presence and consequent actions from the moment she walked into the jazz bar the night of his outing with Eto while she was disguised as her human persona, best selling author Sen Takatsuki. He'd been aware of her following them the entire time and even lurking outside Eto's apartment building when he dropped Eto off. When she'd not so coincidentally run into him on his way back to the 24th ward, he'd briefly considered exposing her into coming clean, reassuring her that he wasn't abandoning her and warning her to stay away from Eto. However Shiki didn't, the reason why was because he'd always known the kind of person Itori was from the first time she killed over him, obsessive, sadistically bloodthirsty and easily jealous. He knew that nothing he said would really get through to her and overwrite her own vicious nature. From the moment he'd gotten involved with her, she'd murdered a staggering majority of the women who she'd discovered getting close to him. He didn't even have to be involved with the women but any notion that the woman could be a romantic rival and Itori would see red. Her insecurity would lead to jealous bloodthirsty rage which would drive her to track down the woman before brutally murdering her and showering in her blood. He'd come across the same scene on numerous occasions with her standing over a female corpse bathed in blood. And despite the fact that his words explicitly told her to stop doing it, his actions told another story as the punishment he'd give her for irrationally killing the women would be multiple mind blowing ȯrġȧsms resulting from rough sėx while she was still covered in the blood of her victims. Even as he did it, Shiki had known he was sending mixed messages and nonverbally encouraging her murderous behavior. The reason why was simply because the sanguinary spirit in Itori was one of the main reasons he'd been so attracted to her in the first place. He'd been so turned on by such a homicidal attractive woman who killed people in such an explosive sadistic fashion that she ended up bathed in the blood of her victims. It was something Shiki found very attractive in a woman, he liked beauty cloaked in blood and death. Blood and death were something he'd constantly experienced, become familiar with, and been drawn to since the birth of his existence, he was innately attracted to women who reveled in it. He'd known from the moment Itori had seen Eto in her human persona with him, she wouldn't rest until she'd killed Eto. Shiki seriously doubted Itori would succeed and had simply kept tabs on Itori while she stalked Eto's human persona. He'd been there on the roof with his presence erased while the two fought, he'd observed Itori's attack, sadistic display and eventual fatal downfall. Shiki could have saved Itori from Eto's own sadistic games and retaliation but he felt it wasn't worth it. Despite the fact that he'd really enjoyed his time with Itori, he knew it was only a matter of time before her homicidal clinginess would become an issue for him. He observed apathetically as Eto slaughtered Itori, crushed her skull and left the site after tearing the corpse to pieces. After Eto left, he dropped down from the roof to accomplish the reason he'd bothered keeping tabs on Itori and arriving at the scene of her death, her soul. He liquefied her corpse and consumed it, absorbing her soul and memories. Itori was the person in charge of all of Shiki's financial ȧssets and thus held the access codes to them, he couldn't let her die with the information. After absorbing the memories and extracting the financial information regarding all the ȧssets Itori was overseeing, Shiki made it back to Eto's apartment before she did. He sat there and acted unsuspecting as Eto lied to him to hide the fact that she'd just killed his companion. Shiki didn't challenge the false story she gave him simply because he didn't care. He merely gazed deep into her eyes past the facade where he found the truth of Eto's dark nature that attracted him to her in the first place. As Eto lay asleep in his arms hours later, Shiki looked through his memories and reminisced his journey in this world so far and the many interesting people that he had come across. His research project was completed and his plans were entering the final phase.
The launch day of the Tokyo ghoul extermination Operation "Spring Cleaning" began with an ȧssembly in all ward branches of the CCG. Every member of the organization was ȧssembled in their respective branches' ȧssembly halls where they were addressed simultaneously by the Chairman of the CCG, Tsuneyoshi Washuu through a live video call displayed on an LED video wall. He gave a speech to mark the commencement of the most ambitious operation ever undertaken by the CCG. His speech included words to encourage the combatants participating in the operation as well as those non-combatants supporting them from outside the battlefields to give it their all so that the operation can succeed and the combatants can return victorious. In an effort to further motivate the people participating, the CCG Chairman stated that there would be a points rewards system setup for those who killed or ȧssisted in killing ghouls during the operation. Points would be awarded based on number of kills and ȧssists which could be exchanged for monetary rewards, upgraded anti-ghoul weaponry, rare medicine, rare commodities or the fulfillment of a request which doesn't negatively affect the organization. After the rewards announcement increased morale among those participating in the operation, the CCG Chairman outlined the way the operation was going to be carried out. Yoshitoki Washuu the Bureau Director would be heading and overseeing the entire operation from a central location in the 1st ward with the aid of his son, Associate Special Class Matsuri Washuu and the Division 2 Chief, Special Class Itsuki Marude. Next all combatant squads must be ȧssembled to stand by and would be summoned to fight at any location that required their ȧssistance. A majority of the squads from the different branches in Tokyo would be summoned to be part of the main fighting force moving from ward to ward rooting out and eradicating all the ghouls in hiding. Those left behind at their ward branches would act as reserves where they could summoned as reinforcements in case of emergencies to locations in dire need of them. When it came to the issue of the order in which the investigators were going to clear out the wards, the CCG Chairman stated that it had been decided that the main fighting force would start from the northeast and move through Tokyo's wards in a clockwise fashion clearing out the east then south before eventually attacking the north west. Their route would end in the 20th ward where they'd then head underground to take on and completely eradicate the ghoul infested 24th ward. The operation would be continuously carried out over an undetermined number of days and the squads participating would be switched out or replaced whenever they get exhausted, injured or killed. The operation would employ shifts so its combatants don't burn out from fighting for overly long periods of time. After fully outlining the sequence of the operation, Tsuneyoshi Washuu concluded the ȧssembly by wishing the combatants luck as well as safety in their battles and reminding them of the main objective of the CCG, which was to eradicate ghouls and protect the innocent human civilians who regularly fell prey to them. The ȧssembly concluded and all members of the CCG organization moved out to the stations they'd been ȧssigned. Support staff set up a central command centre led by Yoshitoki Washuu with small information relay outposts set up in the different ward branches across Tokyo and combatant squads from all over Tokyo ȧssembled at the 1st ward however some were ordered to stay behind in their wards on stand-by as reinforcements. Once everything was ready and everyone was in place, the communication channels were opened and Yoshitoki Washuu announced the commencement of large scale operation "Spring Cleaning".
Operation "Spring Cleaning" started off with the main fighting force moving out of the 1st ward and passing through the 5th ward to enter the 17th ward. The main fighting force was divided into two major groups consisting of several squads who would fight in shifts and one minor group that worked independently. The first major group was led by Special Class Invesigators Kiyoko Aura and Mougan Tanakamaru while the second group was led by Special Class Investigators Iwao Kuroiwa and Yukinori Shinohara. The minor group was a small alpha strike team led by Kishou Arima and made up of his Arima squad members as well as several of the most brutal fighters in the CCG. This group would move independently of the main fighting force to take down huge threats on the battlefield. They would not always be on the battlefield since they were meant to be preserved for dire situations when a highly rated ghoul or group of ghouls appeared. The entire force was equipped with the latest armor and weaponry the CCG research lab division had produced with the aid of the scientists from Germany. The 17th ward was locked down as the combatants entered the ward and put under martial law with an immediate civilian curfew being declared. No one was allowed to be on the streets as the main fighting force searched the entire ward for ghouls. All forms of communication that was not being used by the CCG was shut down to prevent spread of information. This included all cellphone networks, access to the internet and social media. This made it so no one in the 17th ward apart from the CCG combatants could communicate with the outside world. During the year of preparation leading up to this operation, the CCG had employed vast amounts of resources and personnel to research and gather mass amounts of information regarding the city's population. They utilized different sources such as civilians, government records, social media, the press, etc to gather data and process it to produce information regarding possible ghoul suspects hiding among the civilians as well as possible hideout locations for ghoul groups. The information was classified into folders based on the different wards and kept secret until the moment the combatants stepped into the ward before it was made accessible to them. This was to prevent cases of leaks and subsequent escape of suspects. As the main force entered the 17th ward, the folder comtaiming information on the possible ghouls in the 17th ward was sent to them through a secure network. The information was presented to the special class investigators leading the force who then went through it and issued orders to head to the different locations presented in the folder. The plan was to go through the suspects in the information file first before doing a comb through search of the ward that involved going from building to building, door to door and searching for ghouls. The operation kicked off to a good start as the main force separated into squads and headed to the different locations outlined in the 17th ward dossier. They stayed on the communication channels as they arrived at their destinations and broke into the buildings containing the suspected ghouls. Anyone suspected of being a ghoul was immediately subdued with any who resisted and were confirmed to be ghouls being immediately eliminated. Those who were subdued were tested if they were human by trying to cut them with a knife, if the knife couldn't cut through the skin the suspect was immediately eliminated. The ghoul corpses were dragged out to a large container truck which would be used to transport the bodies back to headquarters. The bodies would then be dissected to extract the kakuhou organs as materials to make new quinque. As the ghouls were being rooted out, eliminated and the corpses were stacking up, people in their homes began to notice what was going on by observing through the windows. This caused a commotion amongst them though no civilians seemed to have the guts to step out and confront the investigators breaking into the homes of people suspected to be ghouls. The actions of the investigators did alert some ghouls in hiding who burst out of their buildings to try and escape. This led to outbreaks of conflict on the streets as the investigators worked to contain and eliminate the ghouls trying to escape. The chaos spread quickly as more and more confrontations began to occur between the ghouls trapped in the 17th ward and the investigators there to eliminate them.
Despite the fact that Kichimuri would very much have preferred to be placed in Kiyoko's group where he could be constantly part of the action and fighting, he was instead designated to Arima's small elite group. He'd been separated from his mentor and squad due to the fact that he was valued as an elite fighter meant to be saved for the difficult opponents. Muri felt irritated because he suspected his placement to be the work of Arima requesting him in his group. It'd been a few weeks since he'd rejected Arima's offer to join Aogiri Tree, he'd claimed he would have no part in petty power struggles and was primarily concerned with protecting innocent human civilians from ghouls. Muri felt he'd given an appropriate answer befitting of a hotheaded youth who thought of himself as a chivalrous hero of the people that vanquished whatever threatened them. Arima seemed to take the rejection well though Muri doubted that would be the end of it, he expected the White Reaper to employ some underhanded plots to manipulate him to fully join his cause. The first one seemed to be keeping Muri close to his side no matter how much it irritated or bored Muri. Muri was stuck on the sidelines in a tent on the outskirts of the 17th ward waiting to be called up to fight alongside Arima, his squad and the rest of the solo heavy hitters in the CCG. It had been less than three hours since the operation began and the different teams had already begun coming back from the locations they were sent to. They returned with the corpses of the ghouls they'd discovered and eliminated. During the first hour, the entire force apart from Arima's group had already separated into teams and hit all the locations outlined in the 17th ward information folder where possible ghouls could be. A majority of the reports were proven accurate with investigators encountering ghoul hideouts in these locations as well as the residential addresses of some ghouls hiding in plain sight as humans. Teams that couldn't handle the discovered ghouls at their locations were sent backup in the form of the idle teams. There had been a lot of blood spilled on the streets as the conflicts soon became more of a slaughter of the outnumbered ghouls by the vastly more prepared CCG combatants. The violence and death were horrendous as no mercy was shown regardless of the age or sėx of those who were discovered to be ghouls. All ghouls were eliminated and had their corpses brought back to the containment truck to be transported back to headquarters. Meanwhile, Muri was bored out of his mind doing nothing but waiting to be called up for when a ghoul or group of ghouls emerged that couldn't be dealt with. Muri had been fighting the boredom by meditating and training his mind but his black katana kept bothering him as it wanted to go play. It had been a number of years since Muri first began siphoning a tiny bit of his divine essence from his divinity seed to his nonliving black katana quinque in an effort to hopefully evolve and bind it to him. It had taken some time and effort but his weapon had eventually developed a budding consciousness. It was somewhat sentient with a simple infantile mind that only felt something resembling joy when it was used in battle and fed organic matter such as blood, bone, flesh, organs, etc. With its infantile mind, it could only communicate with Muri through their shared psychic bond. It would send psychic blasts that let Muri know how it was feeling, whether it was happy, sad or angry. Muri had to interpret the psychic blasts to figure out what was wrong not unlike trying to figure out if a baby was crying because it was in pain, hungry or shit its diaper. Muri could tell the sentient weapon could sense the battle going on around it and was eager to join in. Feeling bored with it as well, Muri stood up and signaled to his superior officer Arima that he was heading out to stretch his legs. If there was any upside to being in the reserved trump card group, it was that they were free to move around and help the other groups' combatants in case they were having a hard time. They had no specific orders to follow except to take out the huge threats which freed them up to move around should they choose to though it was recommended they stay put in one place and standby in case of an emergency. It would not be good if a huge threat showed up but the trump card was tired from fighting.
Muri picked up his black katana and settled it on his shoulder before heading off deep into the ward. With his radar senses he could easily pick out the ghouls from the humans. He could sense some hiding in residential homes and looking out the windows in fear as though they were actual human civilians. Muri walked the bloody streets as the teams were wrapping up their various battles, they had hit all of the locations written down in the file and had long begun a battle to the death with the ghouls they'd found. As Muri walked the streets he came across such battles and jumped in to make quick work of the ghouls holding their own while battling the CCG teams. He jumped in and sliced the heads off the rampaging ghouls with his black katana before moving on without even stopping to communicate with the investigators who were just fighting for their lives. He moved through the alleys and jumped onto the roofs as he traveled across the wards. He moved through the ward taking out any ghouls he came across. He even took down those who were previously in hiding though they decided to try and ambush him from the shadows when they spotted him as a CCG combatant moving through the streets alone. He kept to his path while making sure to avoid high level investigators such as Kiyoko who could request his ȧssistance in joining their team. After he didn't want to forsake his freedom just to to join somebody's team and follow them around. Those who he inadvertently helped by killing the ghouls he encountered were glad to see him and spouted thanks as he walked off however no one noticed the change in color and volume of the blood spilled on the streets in the areas he left behind. Muri didn't walk out to help the investigators at all but rather to sate the thirst for blood of his black katana as well as have a little drink himself. Muri absorbed the blood through his feet, he had holes in his combat boots and his absorption had long elevated itself in speed and stealth. By the time Muri returned to the tents, the majority of the other investigators had already returned with the ghoul corpses they'd acquired through slaughter and were resting in preparation for the next phase of the attack. As he walked towards his group's ȧssigned tent, Muri was met with a smirking Kiyoko who seemed to have just returned from battle. "You just couldn't sit still, could you? Got bored and wanted to move things along so you can leave early? I heard you went around chopping off some heads, I'm glad you've still got some energy. Unfortunately despite the fact that you've hastened our cleanup of the ghouls in the 17th ward, these ones were only the ones mentioned in the 17th ward file, we still have to flush out the remaining ghouls in hiding. This is where you and the rest of your group come in. The new gas bombs have already been set up around the ward and they're going to force out the most dangerous of the ghouls here who were skilled enough to evade detection for so long. Stay ready." Kiyoko said as her expression turned serious before signaling to her second-in-command Hana who was collecting a remote from the onsite support staff. It was time to move to the next and final phase of their ghoul eradication in the 17th ward, it was time to flush them out.
One of the most frustrating things about ghouls was the difficulty in finding them and confirming their nature as ghouls. Ghouls looked just like humans except when they activated their kakugan eyes and kagune, other than those times it would be almost impossible to visually identify them as ghouls. When tackling this issue before, the CCG had mainly relied on the detective skills of its investigators as well as ghoul testing capabilities of its various very expensive RC cell detection equipment. However recently with the help of the scientists from Germany, the CCG research lab had developed a new drug that affected ghouls and would aid in flushing them out of hiding. The drug had taken a lot of time and money along with scientific effort to develop. It was really expensive to produce and the lab had only been able to produce a limited supply. The drug was a liquid that when injected into a ghoul's bloodstream would cause a physiological and mental reaction that consisted of several negative symptoms. The symptoms included itchy skin rashes filled with blood, watery red eyes, clouded agitated mind, overproduction of bloody mucus in respiratory system and bleeding of the gums. The drug affected the mind by causing mindless aggression and raging bloodlust. The new drug had been named the RC excitant, it was observed that it worked by agitating the Red Child blood cells into fighting against the body and even wanting to leave it. This caused the mentioned symptoms which pushed the ghoul into a mindless violent rage causing it to attack everything around. The serum had been tested on several ghouls specifically captured for the purpose of undergoing trials which led to the discovery of these temporary symptoms. It was also discovered that the slightest dosage would show lesser symptoms while an overdosage would lead to a scenario where the ghoul's body undergoes exsanguination and dies by bleeding out of every orifice. However due to the shortage of the drug's supply due to its expensive production and rare raw materials, the new RC excitant drug was processed into gaseous form and compressed in bombs with high dispersal power. The main aim of these new weapons was to spread the gas that affected ghouls. While the drug worked by affecting RC cells, it didn't work on humans since they had a very small amount of RC cells in their bodies. The drug would cause its symptoms based on the amount of RC cells in the body which ghouls had vastly more of than humans. The new drug had been kept secret for the operation to catch the ghouls who thought they could escape the CCG's wrath by hiding off guard. Of course Muri knew about it due to the fact that he was a part of the Washuu Clan who led the CCG. He was informed of it shortly after it had been developed and had its symptoms fully discovered. When the serum was developed, a cure or vaccine was secretly developed at the same time that made ghouls temporarily immune to the RC excitant drug. The Washuu Clan kept this development under wraps and also the fact that it was for them to hide the fact that they were ghouls. They pushed the research scientists to develop a more permanent means of immunity but the only result was that with enough constant doses of the vaccine, they could become immune. The Washuu Clan had its top members and those working in the CCG or V provided with multiple doses of the vaccine so they wouldn't be exposed as ghouls while on missions. Muri as a member of the clan and even though he didn't need it, as one of their top agents he was also given multiple vaccine doses until he gained immunity. Due to the fact that the drugs were expensive to make, only the most important of the Washuu Clan and V organization were able to gain immunity though their members were provided single doses in case of an emergency. Muri had noticed while he was moving across the ward that the different teams were placing remote controlled gas bombs all over the ward that were filled with the RC excitant. Kiyoko asked Muri to inform Arima that it was time and to bring out the rest of his group in case of any emergencies. Soon enough, Muri went into his group's tent where he found Arima and the rest adjusting their gear while getting ready to head out. Muri walked to his area where he picked up his hand cannon quinque "Volcano". The group walked out of the tent to find the rest of the main battle force gathered behind the Special Class Investigators who stood in front facing the 17th ward. Everyone turned as Arima and his small elite group approached with many gazing in awe at the CCG's white reaper. Muri noticed from behind Arima that Kiyoko was still holding on to the remote control and had yet to activate it probably waiting for Arima to arrive. Once greetings had been exchanged, Kiyoko stepped forward with the remote raised before pressing it.
Silence swept over the main battle force in anticipation for a reaction but soon noticed none. Time passed and some began to doubt the bomb worked when screams and howls began to erupt from the ward. A wave of gas was seen approaching the main battle force from the ward's interior and it passed over them with no effects. "You can hear our prey calling out for our weapons to reap their lives. Move in quickly and find them so we don't disappoint them. Charge!!!!!!!" Suddenly Kiyoko roared as she led the charge back into the 17th ward. Due to street cameras being monitored by the command center at headquarters, orders were sent down to direct the teams to the ghouls who'd been flushed out by the RC excitant gas. The main battle force separated into teams as each took their own path to a different ghoul that was currently rampaging on the streets. Muri ran behind the Arima squad while activating his radar and sensing for any ghouls around him. He was debating whether to ditch his group when orders were sent down which said Arima's group was being sent to a location where a previously unnoticed group of ghouls popped up in a retirement home. Arima along with Muri and the group headed over to the retirement home close to the ward's outskirts.
They arrived to find a tall muscular ghoul screaming in front of the entrance while single-mindedly scratching his skin. The ghoul's skin was covered in red rashes and boils while his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The ghoul turned its attention to Arima's group the moment he noticed their arrival. Muri observed the result of the RC excitant and how it turned a formerly normal ghoul into an agitated bloodthirsty beast with bloodshot watery eyes and itchy skin. "Who the fuċk are you? Are you the people who caused this and did this to me? What the fuċk have you guys done to me? You better fix this or you're all going to die Aaaaaahhhhhhhh" The man raged as he released a half kakuja covering ċhėst and arms. The kakuja formed two scythes along his arms as the man roared and charged at Arima's group. Muri observed an excessive increase in adrenaline secretion as the blood in the man's system was pumping rapidly. Muri used his radar to sense other ghouls smashing around in the retirement home, the ghouls seemed to be the staff for the facility and had slaughtered some of the elderly residents in their rage leaving the rest to hide in the attic. Muri observed as the itching ghouls seemed to her the half kakuja ghoul's roars outside and had begun heading out towards them. As the half kakuja ghoul before Arima's group continued charging towards them, Arima released his IXA quinque and dashed towards the ghoul running towards him. Arima dodged under the slash aimed for his head and pierced his quinque straight through the head of the ghoul. Arima's blow tore the head off the corpse as his gaze focused of the nineteen ghouls running out of the retirement home. Suddenly one of the ghouls released an ukaku kagune and fired off multiple RC projectiles at Arima. Arima expanded his IXA quinque from a lance to a shield blocking the projectiles. The female ghoul who fired off the shards roared along with the other ghouls at Arima and charged at him. Arima signaled for the group of twelve behind him including Muri to move out and attack. Muri and the rest each did their own thing with the Arima squad moving out in a formation while the rest grouped up into formations of three and two. Muri moved on his own firing his heated bullets at the large ghoul closest to him. The bullets pierced into the ghoul's large belly as he cried out in pain and released a large bikaku kagune tail that ended in a sharp claw. Muri's bullets were blocked by the kagune before Muri switched to explosive bullets and decimated the ghoul. Once Muri reached the collapsed large ghoul who was struggling to get up, he flipped over the ghoul's writhing kagune and landed on the ghoul's shoulders before stabbing his katana straight into the ghoul's skull. The large obese ghoul erupted in loud roars of pain before frantically trying to reach his hands back to grab Muri. With a smirk, Muri jammed the barrel of his hand cannon into the wound where his katana stabbed into the skull and unloaded several explosive bullets straight through the brain and out the face. The frantically struggling ghoul suddenly stiffened and slumped dead to the floor. Muri looked around to find that the rest of the group were already engaging in battle with the ghouls. These ghouls were not normal ghouls, in fact each were or were close to S rate level with some having half kakuja. The group of twelve investigators were fighting eighteen deadly ghouls. Arima took on six by himself while squad of six led by his vice squad leader Associate Special class Koori Ui did the same. The team of three investigators took on three while the team of two took on three ghouls. Each of the teams were holding their own as Muri observed their fights especially the duo team of the muscular young man with black hair and teal eyes fighting alongside the beautiful young woman with pale blonde hair and purple eyes. Muri knew them to be Koutarou Amon and Akira Mado, two rising talents of the CCG who were protégées of the ghoul-hating quinque fanatic First Class Investigator Kureo Mado. Both had been selected to join Arima's group due to their stellar record as ghoul butchers. They had some of the most impressive ghoul kill counts among the younger generation of the CCG if one did not count a monster like Muri. Muri had given their records a glance when he was ȧssigned to Arima's group. Other non-Arima squad investigators included Kousuke Houji, Kuramoto Itou and Keijin Nakirai. Muri observed Akira and Koutarou hold their own against the ghouls in an outnumbered two versus three battle to the death. Muri walked over to the area where they were battling causing the ghouls to take notice of him. Muri displayed a charming smile until he got within an appropriate distance from the ghouls. The ghouls were about to send one of them out to handle Muri when he seemed to disappear only to reappear beside one of the ghouls. Muri deflected the ghoul's kagune strike and fired an explosive bullet into the ghoul's head, destroying it and killing the ghoul. The other two ghouls were shocked at what happened opening up a chance for Amon and Akira to deal a lethal blow. Akira aimed for the head killing her target while Amon went for the torso which severely injured him but left him alive. The ghoul who survived used the momentum from Amin's blow to try and escape only to get his head blown clean off by Muri. The trio exchanged glances before moving to help the other group quickly dispatch their opponents. They arrived at the Arima squad area to discover them just finishing up the ghouls attacking them while Arima stood in the middle of dismembered corpses with his other quinque Narukami in hand. Once the ghouls had been eliminated, the group walked into the retirement home to discover dead bodies and no other ghouls, Muri could already tell that but he let them find out for themselves. Afterwards, Arima's group was dispatched to different areas of the 17th ward where their help was needed in eliminating ghouls. The entire battle force faced off against the emerging aggravated ghouls and cut them down one by one. It took two hours for the entire 17th ward to be wiped out of all ghoul activity and the battle force suffered no major casualties, only some injured from the fighting but nothing permanent. After the fighting, the main battle force regrouped at the encampment at the area they'd used to enter the 17th ward. Kiyoko looking as though she hadn't just engaged in a long battle told everyone to take a short rest as they would soon be moving out to the next ward. There was a loud cheer as people settled down to refresh themselves and rest in preparation for the next battle. Meanwhile Muri snuck off into the ward where he absorbed a majority of the blood spilled in the battle. Muri viciously smiled as he thought of the upcoming bloody CCG campaign across Tokyo, it was going to be fun.
The launch day of the Tokyo ghoul extermination Operation "Spring Cleaning" began with an ȧssembly in all ward branches of the CCG.
