Chapter 54: Case The Site

Ling Mo woke up at the first glimmer of light.

He had too many things today, such as hunting down mutated zombies to collect more gel parts. And… he had to search for more food!

The food he collected before was almost all gone and although he found some instant noodles, it wasn’t enough for Ling Mo.

Large amounts of fighting and long journeys, as well as using his power only made Ling Mo’s appetite get bigger and bigger.

Part of the reason why this happened was because the food he could collect wasn’t very nutritious and the food couldn’t make up for his energy consumption no matter how much he ate.

It wasn’t enough just to be full.

Ling Mo always packed his bags before he left, and he started to pack right after he got up.

Ling Mo was rather satisfied at this shelter as it was extremely suitable for a hideout. Hence, he didn’t plan to leave this place in a short period of time.

Although his destination was the university, this place was close enough. On the way here yesterday, Ling Mo already discovered that it was indeed difficult to move in a bustling district like this.

There were many buildings, obstacles, and zombies. All these factors together made the area extremely dangerous.

Rather than diving into an unknown area like the university, Ling Mo was more willing to take this place first and get to know the areas around here more before planning again.

He had to secure the site first but it was a big task. During the process, he could also try to collect some supplies and if he was lucky, he could find some places with potential mutated zombies.

Considering that there were twice the number of zombies around here than Third Middle School, Ling Mo planned to leave the unnecessary things behind in the room first to lighten his load.

Because this was a remote place and there were zombies wandering back and forth in the car park and construction site, survivors wouldn’t expect people living here even if they came to these areas. Hence, it was rather safe to hide his things here.

A short blade and a dagger hung from Ling Mo’s waist. The last few bars of chocolate were shoved into the pocket on his shirt, meant for restoring energy. He found a water bottle for military use and filled it with spring water. The other things in his bag were emptied and put into the box with instant noodles.

Perhaps it had been a long time since he left with an empty bag. Although he had many important tasks to do, he couldn’t help but feel lighter.

Ling Mo acted cautiously. Before taking the girls out, he hid the things under the bed and made it messy, making it look like no one had lived here. He opened the door widely before he left.

As the most bustling area in the city, the number of zombies was outrageous even though it wasn’t the main street here. All the shops around here were more damaged than others. The abandoned cars on the street and the traces of the explosions were enough to make people tremble, let alone the dried clot on the ground, looking like a layer of blood carpet.

As soon as he approached the street, his expressions became grave. Although he had two zombies with him, it was stressful to search for supplies and hunt in a dangerous area like this.

Ling Mo thought that the tiniest noise would attract a large crowd of zombies over. The trick he used with music to distract zombies wasn’t going to work here. There wasn’t enough space to attract the zombies and contain them there. Also, there was one fatal disadvantage; the roads were all connected and there were too many alleys around this area.

If music went off, zombies were going to rush from all directions. Even if he could control zombies and make sure that he doesn’t die in the wave of zombies, he would definitely be trapped here. Ling Mo would never try to dig his own grave and jump in it.

The safest and stupidest method was to kill his way through without attracting the attention of zombies far from him.

Although the zombies still had their five senses, they had weaknesses as well. When they didn’t discover any prey, they were wandering slowly and the area of movement was tiny. Although there were many zombies on the street, they weren’t crowded together. If he utilized the gap between them well, he would be able to fight his way through.

It was hard for normal people to do it, but Ling Mo could control puppets and it wasn’t too hard to put his plan into action.

First, he hid under an abandoned car under Xia Na’s cover and then controlled Ye Lian to approach a group of zombies.

To prevent blood from attracting other zombies, Ling Mo didn’t tell Ye Lian to use the machete but instead use a more brutal method: twisting their necks.

With Ye Lian’s power, a light ‘kacha’ sounded at the same time she secured the zombie’s neck with her arms, putting the zombie down on the ground slowly. But even the slightest noise attracted the rest of the zombies to look around. But when normal zombies weren’t on a rampage, they wouldn’t attack their same kind. They only turned around but didn’t attack Ye Lian.

At this time, Ling Mo stuck his head out from behind the car and the instant the zombies discovered him, he immediately used his power. Ling Mo finally realized in this moment that after he had improved his mind, his power seemed to change slightly. Before, he could only control zombies after he had made eye contact with them, but now that he was fully concentrating, he could control the zombies when they just turned around.

It wasn’t the time to think about this; as he used his ability, invisible threads immediately controlled the zombies securely and when he successfully controlled the zombies, Ling Mo grinned evilly.

The zombies immediately attacked each other after being under Ling Mo’s strict control. Soon after, they all died cleanly.

Using this cautious method, Ling Mo soon broke out to a small grocery store.

The grocery store was small but there were quite a lot of supplies left behind. It wasn’t hard to understand as not all survivors had the ability to search for food in an area like this.

Ling Mo made Xia Na guard the door and quickly started scavenging inside with Ye Lian.

Soon, his backpack was filled with all sorts of food, making him feel more relaxed.

In the apocalypse, plentiful harvests came with greater risks.
