Just then powerful seraphic energy burst into the tunnels with the growing sounds of fighting. Ji Yao and Lan Wu glanced at each other for a split second before rushing to the other tunnel.

It didn't take them more than ten seconds to get there but when they arrived, there was no one.

Within that powerful seraphic energy was a mix of Zhang Li and Lady Ching Sei's but now there was no trace of them including that of the other person.

Ji Yao's sword was extremely agitated with the flame growing stronger and stronger but the coward hadn't shown himself. "I will find him," said Lan Wu before sitting cross-legged on the ground.

A blue light shaped like a diamond appeared on his forehead as he joined his palms together. An aurora of blue light emitted from his forehead and the joined hands surrounding him. His seraphic energy built up quickly before he suddenly opened his luminous eyes and placed the hand on the ground.

The ground vibrated creating a path showing directions. Ji Yao engaged his aether and rushed forward but just as he reached the end of the tunnel the light vanished. That's when he knew he made a major mistake.

He rushed back and as expected Lan Wu had also disappeared. It was as though he was never there in the first place. The tunnels were completely silent giving Ji Yao the creeps. He was starting to get annoyed so he said, "Are you done fuckin around?"

His voice bounced off the walls of the tunnel creating a loud echo. As expected the clown answered. "Hehehe... what's the matter? Not having fun? Because I am," said the croaky voice with sinister undertones.

Ji Yao followed the voice as he continued talking to him. "You know what would be more fun? You showing your face so we can fight face to face," he said walking steadily down the passageways.

"Yes, it would indeed be fun. This is why I like you Qilin people so much. You hate being toyed with because you think yourself as kings," spoke the voice that had suddenly shifted directions.

Hearing this Ji Yao paused in his tracks before following the voice that had changed direction. This Nocru must be of pure blood and had an encounter with the Qilin clan. "I don't think myself one but I can't speak of others since I have never interacted with any Qilin clan member," replied Ji Yao.

Inside a tiny crevice on the roof of the tunnel, a man was crouched like a frog looking down with his haunting eyes. "Interesting, Qilins usually guard their cubs jealously? Did they fuck your inferior human parent and abandoned them?" he spoke as he watched the prey fall into his trap. Ji Yao was right below him passing by.

The grin on his face grew wider and wider making him look like a psychopath. Ji Yao scoffed before saying, "Yes but it's much better than you who was betrayed by his own kind and left to rot in this place!"

As soon as he said the last word he engaged his aether and swung his sword sending a blast of flames towards the roof. The force was so powerful that it crumbled some rocks but the man had vanished on the spot.

He reappeared in front of Ji Yao after the dust had settled and said, "Interesting..... how did a Raiju bed a Qilin? You are like a cocktail of different clans." From his voice, one could tell that he was genuinely interested.

When different clans mate their cubs would inherit one seraphic energy. They could either be like their father or their mother never a mix of both. Ji Yao was truly an interesting specimen.

Ji Yao wasn't interested in discussing his physiology so he made a move to attack once more. The man vanished on the spot again as he laughed, "Hehehe... Such an inexperienced cub. If you were in Niuq we would consider you as one of the weak ones in the clan... and do you know what the Qilin do to their weak Cubs?"

The man reappeared right behind Ji Yao's ear and whispered, "They kill them.... hehehe." Ji Yao's eyes widened as he made a sharp turn slashing the blazing flame in the man's direction.

He managed to dodge but this time he was a little slow resulting in an injury on his arm. The man looked down at his burnt hand with an absent expression then raised his head and looked in Ji Yao's direction his eyes as cold as ice.

"I wanted to be courteous but it seems you didn't appreciate it. Don't blame me then," he said as a burst of seraphic energy flooded the tunnel.

There was no mistaking it. This man was the same as Rui Fei. They were from the same clan. This man might have experience and a fierce aura but his seraphic energy was inferior to Rui Fei's despite him being half-blood. This is why Ji Yao wasn't as afraid.

A fierce battle broke between the two shaking the ground at its core. The tunnel walls didn't collapse but the effects were felt in the empress dowager's pavilion. It was like a spontaneous megaquake with huge cracks appearing on the wall.

Big Hei who had been throwing pebbles at the emperor and his eunuch for the fun of it was shocked. He stopped messing with this weakling and dashed into the pavilion.

But the moment he tried to enter he was pushed back by a powerful force sending him flying across the courtyard. He got up immediately and knew this was bad. This situation was really bad. The clouds in the sky had gotten darker and darker like a hurricane was about to happen.

Rui Fei who had been comforting his sister just now felt the powerful presence of another being similar to him. He dropped everything and reappeared in front of the empress dowager's pavilion. Based on his lucid behaviour he couldn't feel any of Ji Yao's seraphic energy. Something must have happened to Ji Yao otherwise why couldn't he feel his presence.

To Big Hei's astonishment, Rui Fei entered the pavilion with ease like the barrier was never there in the first place. How was he not allowed in but that kid was? Wasn't that discrimination?

"It will only allow good looking people in," said Xunshi Zhe who had appeared out of nowhere.

Big Hei's brow furrowed as he asked, "Aren't you supposed to be maintaining the barrier around the imperial palace up?"

Xunshi Zhe kicked the emperor and replied, "The dog is here so why bother build a fence?"
