Chapter 258 - An Idiot In Love

"Are you an idiot?" asked Lady Ching Sei in a sarcastic tone. How can someone be this stubborn? Her attitude towards him had already demonstrated what she thought of him but still. This man just wouldn't give up. Maybe if she broke his legs he would stop, right?

"Yes," replied Zhang Li not at all shying away from her, "an idiot in love." The flirtatiousness in his tone couldn't be mistaken and Lady Ching Sei didn't appreciate it. The idea of breaking Zhang Li's legs started looking better and better the more he opened his mouth.

She took a step forward intending to do what she should have done a long time ago. She wanted to render him bedridden so he won't come to bother her for a very very long time. The moment she took that step Zhang Li immediately felt an inexplicable sense of danger.

He took a step back and with his hands raised to his chest in surrender, he said, "Okay, okay no need to be rash. I was just thinking it would be great if the two of us drink some liquor while we bitch about Xiaoyu. I mean, she kinda had the both of us fooled..., right?"

But even after saying all this Lady Ching Sei didn't respond. She just stared at him with an expression darker than the bottom of a charcoal pot. Zhang Li didn't mind her silence, in fact, it was to his advantage. It meant she was seriously considering it.

He grabbed a bottle of rum from his storage space and said, "How about it. Let's open this century-old baby and drown our sorrows," with a twinkle in his eye.

A torn Lady Ching Sei gritted her teeth as she clenched her fist. She then grabbed the bottle and said, "You better have something stronger."

She opened the bottle with her teeth in the most boorish way before walking away. Zhang Li who had just been granted a pass to the gates of Nirvana leisurely followed behind her. It seemed something good came out of this situation.

While Zhang Li was celebrating his progress, Xiaoyu resurfaced from the depths of the sea. Her heart shattered into pieces when she heard Ji Yao instruct Lady Ching Sei to strip everything from her and cast her into the sea. She felt like he was erasing everything about her in the past few years they had known each other.

It was as though these past years didn't happen at all. What made it worse was that he was also taking those sweet memories away from her. If he took everything then what would she have to remember him?

What she failed to realise was that she was never meant to survive in the first place. This punishment was meant to kill her that is to say even if she had any souvenirs in her possession they would be useless to a corpse.

When she was pushed into the water her heart was broken and she suddenly lost her will to live. Since Ji Yao hated her so much that he wanted her dead she just let her body sink to the bottom. It seemed she was prepared to let go of everything and die.

As she sank she recalled the first time she met Ji Yao. He had pulled that cloth off the cage covering her like a veil being lifted off a bride's graceful face. Her heart that day was threatening to burst out of her chest as the cloth fell.

She even thought at that moment if this was the prince Rui she was being sent to she would gladly prostrate at his feet and call him daddy. But it turned out it was even better because this man was her knight in shining armour. It was then she fell miserably and determinedly decided to repay him with her life.

But who would have thought a few years down the line he would indirectly lead her to her grave. The life he saved that time had been taken by him as well. From this moment onwards she didn't owe him anything. They were now on even ground.

This thought had her rethinking her decision to simply let go and let the sea do as it wished. Since the dynamics of their relationship had changed she thought it best to survive and come back greater than ever to show him she is a better candidate.

She figured that Ji Yao didn't like her because she was weak and always waited for him to save her. What if she was stronger than Rui Fei? Would he like her instead? Maybe it was the hypothermia that disoriented her mind giving her such illusions. Her logic was so flawed that she lost clarity.

She stopped drifting off like a salted fish and swam to the surface. She wiped the water from her face and looked in the distant direction where the three ships were sailing away without her. But at this moment she wasn't sad at all.

She had a plan in her mind which she seemed to believe would work to reclaim Ji Yao's heart. Little did she realise that to reclaim something she should have owned it in the first place. Let's just assume it was the hypothermia talking.

Xiaoyu decided then to engage her aether and try to get as close as possible to land. Ignoring the excruciating pain from the beating she got from Lady Ching Sei she tried to circulate her seraphic energy only to realise a big problem.

The punishment she received from Lady Ching Sei wasn't a regular beating but a way to block her aetherial veins rendering her useless for who knows how long. "Shit," she swore as she slapped the surface of the water.

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" she let out a mortifying scream that could scare predators away. Who would want to deal with psycho prey? If there were some sharks nearby they probably ran as far away as possible.

She threw a fit for a while smacking and flaring her legs while screaming. It seemed this little tantrum helped her clear her mind for a while because she finally noticed the dandy a few meters from her floating away.

An imperceptible smile crept up her face as she swam over. It seemed her conjecture was right. Ji Yao still cared for her. He probably couldn't bear letting her die so he gave her a chance to survive. 'How sweet is my Yao-ge,' she thought her face heating up.

Little did she know that Ji Yao only allowed it out of respect for Lady Ching Sei not because there was still a part of him that cared for her. She climbed onto the rowboat and lay sprawled on the floor of the boat panting heavily. She seemed more optimistic as she looked up at the sky blocking the sun with her hand.

"Yao-ge.. I promise I will work hard to win you back."
