Chapter 48 - Catnip For A Feisty Ji Yao

Ji Yao's ears were ringing as he looked on expressionlessly. He just felt his entire body tense up when Rui Fei took the initiative to hold Xiaoyu's hand. Feeling like this sight was an eyesore he lowered his head and ate a mouthful of fish but as he chewed he suddenly found it tasteless.

It seemed he had lost his appetite. Meanwhile, Rui Fei had finally let go of Xiaoyu's hand seeing nothing wrong with what he had done. At the time he was worried that she would find out what they were discussing earlier and the real reason Rui Li ran out screaming like a fangirl who had just met her idol.

If they knew these siblings were discussing love affairs between men wouldn't that be embarrassing? Unwilling for Ji Yao to find out the truth he had stopped Xiaoyu on impulse.

Xiaoyu on the other hand wanted to jerk her hand out of Rui Fei's grasp as she was afraid Ji Yao would misunderstand. But Rui Fei's grip was so tight that she couldn't free herself. She stupidly stood there like a statue almost overthinking Rui Fei's actions. Did this boy have a thing for her?

Meanwhile, Rui Yewan was standing with his back slouching on the wall as he watched Rui Li turning her entire library upside down looking for Stormy Love. She was so desperate that one would think her very breath was dependent on whether she found that novel or not.

"Is this necessary?" he asked looking down at his nails painted black that is before a book was sent flying in his direction.

Rui Li was glaring at him like he had committed a heinous crime as she replied, "You should be helping me find it," before going back to dig deep into her treasure chest.

Rui Yewan who had just been slapped by a book slowly ambled over and pushed her aside while handing her the book that she had just hit him with earlier. "Move over and let me take a look," he said as he stretched his hand over the treasure chest with his eyes closed.

Two seconds later a thin book with a blue cover shrouded in a dark fog rose to the surface before landing in Rui Yewan's hand. He was about to hand it over to her when the book was suddenly snatched from him.

Ru Li was squealing as she opened the book in excitement. "Dage is awesome," she said praising him which rarely ever happened. She hopped on the bed and lay on her belly with her legs up in the air as she flipped through the pages.

Rui Yewan sighed as he scanned the floor covered with books scattered all over. It seems these books had fallen out of favour. "Are you going to clean up this mess?" he asked feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

Rui Li waved her hand without even raising her head as she gave him a perfunctory response. "I will do it later... don't worry about it," she said but we all know that wasn't true. She was like one of those siblings you tell to wash the dishes while you are gone but when you come back four hours later the dishes would still be in the sink.

Rui Yewan heaved a long sigh as he engaged his aether. A dark shadow appeared in his hand before the books rose from the ground and packed neatly in the chest. He ruffled Rui Li's hair before leaving.

It seemed Rui Li didn't feel anything otherwise she would have blown up as she didn't like anyone touching her hair. She was engrossed in the reading material with a smile that reached her eyes.

Well, at least one person was enjoying their evening. Across the courtyard, Ji Yao was in his father's study looking like a boulder had just been dropped on his back. He grabbed the sheathed sword by the table while his father explained his reasoning.

"When I got married I didn't think of having another child so that's why this home was designed for one kid and maybe a guest or two so you can only share your room," he said expecting Ji Yao to explode at any moment.

But Ji Yao was half-listening as he unsheathed the beautiful sword. If it had been three days ago he would have exploded and said some mean words to his father but with this new information, he found he was drained of all energy to argue with him.

"Mn..... I understand," he said startling Ji Wen who had prepared a long speech on how this was for his own benefit. To his surprise, Ji Yao was extremely sensible today which was abnormal.

Feeling a little suspicious he turned to look at his son and asked, "Really? Why is that each time you come out of that creepy place you are always sensible, huh? Is there some sort of catnip like plant down there that unties your knots?" He said this scrutinizing his son.

"For instance, you rejected that sword days ago but today you are looking at it like it's something precious... Is there something you are hiding from me?" he inquired in an accusatory tone.

As expected Ji Yao froze for a split second without looking at him before sheathing the sword with a resounding shinging noise. "I don't know what you are talking about," he said averting his gaze. Half his face felt hot from that fierce gaze boring through his skin.

If there was one thing Ji Yao was terrible at it would be lying. He could never lie especially to his father and if he did his face usually sold him out. He never intended on telling his father what was in that cave from the very beginning.

When he was eight he didn't tell him because he was afraid his father would think there was something wrong with his brain if he mentioned the illusions.

Now he was afraid to tell his father because he always gets upset at the mention of Qilin Hao's name. He knew he was especially terrible at lying but there was no way he was telling the truth.

"Of course not... I am leaving," he said before walking out of his father's study.

Ji Wen shook his head with a complicated expression on his face as he said, "I will find out soon enough so why not confess in advance?"

Ji Yao heard what he said but kept walking. He had a much bigger problem which was how to act around Rui Fei. His steps slowed down as he reached the door to his room.. He stood on the spot for ten seconds hesitating to enter.
