33. The Audition

A small crowd was in the audition room, Qi Le An saw Wei Chang Feng on entering the room and he noticed Wei Chang Feng was looking at him as well. Qi Le An couldn’t help but square his shoulders to leave a good impression on them. Qi Le An took a deep breath to overcome his nervousness.

Wei Chang Feng winked at Qi Le An, Qi Le An was amused by this childish behavior. With that Qi Le An greeted everyone in the room, to Qi Le An’s surprise, he saw a fan of his sitting behind Director Chen and smiling at him.

It was Tong who sent him the screenplay and asked him for a signature.

“All right, An, shall we begin?”

Qi Le An nodded.

With that the cameras were turned on and Qi Le An walked to the little box to draw lots for the scenes that he was going to play. Qi Le An’s heart sank when he saw the contents on the paper.

They had prepared three plots in total, the first one was a scene where Susan knocked on the door to given them some fresh cherries, both Xing and his younger male cousin Cheng were excited to see her, but Xing told the younger cousin to do his homework and Xing opened the door to receive Susan. Younger cousin eavesdropped Xing and Susan’s talk and he found out Xing had a crush on Susan.

The second was the elder female cousin Hua asked about Xing’s whereabouts, younger male cousin Cheng tried to hide the fact that Xing went to see Susan.

The third was a scene where the younger male cousin Cheng made some spicy jokes on seeing Susan’s receding figure and Xing threw him a punch and threatened him to watch his mouth.

Qi Le An had got the third scene, the one he deemed the most difficult, the anger and the punch both needed to look convincing.

Qi Le An handed the paper to Director Chen, Director Chen and showed it to others in the room as well.

“An, you can ask for a partner to play Xing.” said Director Chen.

“I can be his partner.” Wei Chang Feng volunteered.

Everyone turned around and gazed at Wei Chang Feng in amazement, for there were actors who were standing by in the other room to help out.

Director Chen and Tong were the only ones who knew Qi Le An and Wei Chang Feng were friends, they just showed a subtle smile.

“It’s a great opportunity to show Director Chen I’m the perfect Xing.” Wei Chang Feng made a joke.

Everyone chuckled, they had no idea the Film Emperor could be this humorous.

Qi Le An’s heart fluttered as he heard what Wei Chang Feng just said, he watched Wei Chang Feng walking towards him step by step with his heart pounding.

“Nervous?” Wei Chang Feng asked.

Qi Le An and Wei Chang Feng were standing so close, Qi Le An could even feel Wei Chang Feng’s breath when he asked him whether he was nervous.

Qi Le An blushed and nodded.

The ‘audience’ didn’t hear that but they did have noticed how blushed Qi Le An was.

“Don’t be, I will try my best to be your partner.” Wei Chang Feng’s voice sounded so soothing.

Qi Le An took a few deep breaths and together the two nodded at Director Chen, signaling to Director Chen that they were ready.

“Starting in 3, 2, 1!”

With that Qi Le An noticed Wei Chang Feng looked like a complete different person on Director Chen’s cue.

Younger male cousin Cheng and Xing were talking and laughing on the veranda, but all of a sudden Xing noticed his younger cousin’s eyes were glued so where else.

Xing turned around to see what had caught his cousin’s attention, what met his eyes were Susan who lived across the hall, it looked like she just showered and she was drying her hair with a towel.

Xing blushed immediately as he saw Susan’s wet hair had damped her top, making her lingerie partly hidden and partly visible.

Susan noticed the boys when she raised her head, she showed them a friendly smile and went back to her room.

“Oh my!” the younger cousin exclaimed, “Have you seen the bitxx’s… …”

Xing glared at the cousin and said, “What did you say!”

“Apologize!” Xing grabbed cousin’s hand.

Cousin looked so confused, he asked Xing with disbelief, “What are you talking about?”

“Apologize for what you have said!”

“Are you out of your mind?” Cousin stared at Xing, “Apologize for speaking out the truth? Don’t tell me you can’t tell she was doing that on purpose! I heard you can pay her to sleep with you!”

Xing clenched his fists and threw a punch on cousin.

Cousin was overcome with shock and disbelief for a solid second, then he hit Xing back.

“I don’t allow you to talk her like this!”

“I know you have a crush on her, but she is a bitxx!” the challenging part in this line was to convey the complicated feelings that the Cousin had for Susan.

“Cut—”

Qi Le Anwas dragged back to reality as he heard Director Chen’s cue, it wasn’t until now did he realize he was straddling on Wei Chang Feng and his fists were still clenched, ready to throw another punch.

Panting, Qi Le An looked at Wei Chang Feng who was lying under him.

There was no trace of ruthlessness or hate in Wei Chang Feng’s eyes, he was himself again, he had even tilted his head and showed Qi Le An a bright smile.

‘What am I doing!’ Qi Le An sprang to his feet and stood up, “I’m sorry, I… I… I…”

Wei Chang Feng laughed and comforted Qi Le An, “No worries at all, that was the passion we need.”

“Good job, An!” Director Chen smiled as well, the other judges nodded their head with satisfaction.

Qi Le An couldn’t believe he had taken Wei Chang Feng down under the watchful eyes of so many people, he wished to flee the scene!

But he was so grateful it was Wei Chang Feng who volunteered to perform with him, Wei Chang Feng had definitely led the way by being a convincing Xing first, otherwise Qi Le An wouldn’t have had such great performance.

With that Wei Chang Feng walked back to his seat. He had observed professional ethics and didn’t affect the judges by showing closeness to Qi Le An.

Director Chen and the other judges discussed for a little while, Director Chen showed a meaningful smile and said, “An, we will contact your manager.”

Qi Le An had no idea whether that was a good sign, he cast a glimpse at Wei Chang Feng subconsciously, then he left the room on seeing Wei Chang Feng’s warm smile.

Chen Shan dashed towards Qi Le An when he walked out of the door, “How did it go? Man, that was so long!”

“I don’t know yet, but… but I felt good!”

Qi Le An said that because he believed he did a great job, and acting with Wei Chang Feng was a bonus. Chen Shan knew Qi Le An wasn’t the bragging type, but he put on the typical Asian dad face and said, “Hmm, don’t get cocky yet, let’s wait and see.”

“I can’t believe you have actually got the part! This is such great news!” Chen Shan found it too good to be true.

Chen Shan wasn’t good at expressing his true feelings, he just averted his face and cleared his throat, “No… no need to thank me, you just… you just do your best, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, don’t disappoint the people who trust you!”

Qi Le An’s phone vibrated when he was about to assure Chen Shan that he would do a great job, he beamed on seeing the caller’s name on the screen.

Qi Le An didn’t expect Wei Chang Feng was here to give him a present, he looked so surprised to see this palm-sized present bag with a blue ribbon wrapped around it, “Wei Sama, this is such a surprise, what is it?”

“Why not find it out by yourself?” Wei Chang Feng showed a playful smile.

Gary now ran towards them and said, “Wei Ge, Director Chen is looking for you. And hey, Little An, congratulations! Good job!”

“Thank you so much Gary. Wei Sama, I won’t keep you any longer, Director Chen is looking for you.” Qi Le An fondled the present bag and watched Wei Chang Feng’s receding figure with a big smile lingered on his face.
