Werewolf Progenitor Chronicles

Chapter 1 - Caveman? Werewolf? Or Werewolf Caveman?!

After a long day of work, I could feel my eyelids drooping while driving home. Stop signs might as well be fire hydrants as I speed through the back-roads wilderness towards my small cabin that I've lived in the past 5 years.

Too dumb for school and too lazy to try and be an entrepreneur, my life could be summed up into a spectacular paragraph that describes the horse shit situation I live out everyday.

Working a construction job with barely enough pay is about to be the least of my worries though. Actually, I meant LAST of my worries, at least in this life.

The tree that fell over the road acted as a deadly speed bump that ended up with my car doing one of those awesome barrel rolls for a good 50 feet. In my last moments I was expecting something like a slow-mo version of me reaching out to touch some random item that cluttered my truck before I died. Instead all I saw was a disoriented blur before everything faded to black.

Next thing I know I'm being shaken and fight through my dazed state to open my eyes, only to promptly scream like a little girl.

In front of me is some type of man who is wearing animal skin and picking his nose with one hand while the other has started slapping my face.

Blinking in shock I crawl backwards until I hit the opposite wall of the cave I find myself in.

The person, who looks like he walked out of the caveman exhibit in a national museum, slowly approaches me while scratching his birds nest of hair.

"You, okay?"

The choppy sentence that was spoken in some slaughtered version of english mixed with who knows what else makes me drop my jaws and gawk.

"Uh yeah, what happened just now?"

"You kill wolf, but it kill you too?"

The uncertain look on the caveman's face was kind of funny as he scratched the back of his head.

"Shit, I got killed!"

Touching my body everywhere I try to look for any wounds but frown. There isn't any type of wound on my body.

Come to think of it, my body has never been this ripped. I look like Raizo from the movie N*nja Assass*n. And I feel strength like I could lift a truck with one hand!

This must be some trippy kind of afterlife or reincarnation. I need to figure out what the hell is going on.

I ignore the caveman who is confused by my completely healed body and walk outside to get a view of the surroundings. Maybe I can make sense of what is going on if I can see more of the area.

The area outside seems to be a forest with trees that rival the redwoods in California with various forest plant life scattered everywhere.

About 10 feet out from the cave is the corpse of a wolf with a spear sticking out of its side. However the wolf is bigger than any wolf I've seen on TV. It's the size of a full grown lion and it's teeth are huge. I can almost see a glow that surrounds the body but is starting to fade.

Ignoring the corpse for now I look into the sky but cannot see much due to the trees other than the moon. A full moon...

Why am I getting this jittery feeling? It's like my bones are vibrating and I'm getting shocked by a taser! My bones are starting to move and my face is changing.

The smell of the forest and the blood on the ground invades my senses like a bomb as I feel a little dizzy from the stimulation. Nonetheless this doesn't stop me from entering the cave and looming over the caveman who is trembling in front of me.

The poor caveman is muttering incoherently like a schizophrenic in a mental ward while an unholy rage develops in my mind at the sight of such a weak willed species.

Is this my thoughts? What is happening? No, it's better this way, this stain of a being is a disgrace to humanity. I must cull the weak and reign at the top. An alpha must exert its influen-

Stop! Just f.u.c.k.i.n.g make him leave, there is no need to kill him!

Both of my personalities war against each other like some vulpine version of the Incred*ble H*lk and my body roars so loud that the rocks and debris in the cave start shaking. The vibrations were so loud that the caveman started bleeding from his ears and soiled himself too.

"GO! LEAVE!"

I yell at him while struggling to contain the bloodl.u.s.t that threatens to overtake me. In the corner of my vision I see him scurry away from me while sticking as close to the walls as possible.

I wait until my enhanced hearing cannot sense him and then until my smell loses the scent.

Now that he's gone I give a little control back to my other self and let it go crazy. I feel myself jump out of the cave and start to pound on the ground like an angry K*ng Kong except that every time my fist hits the ground it creates car sized craters on impact and the earth quakes.

I keep going like that for what feels like hours until the primal side relaxes and my claws stop uprooting the earth. Still I don't have control and I stalk over to the dead wolf that was killed by my previous occupant of my body.

Memories that aren't my own but not the previous me either start to flood my brain.

-----

A peaceful divinity. The divine wolf born after a great cataclysm. It's intelligence superior to man. It could feel a calling telling it to approach the two legged person before it. A destiny that required the sacrifice of itself and the death of the person in front of it.

The peace from knowing it will do something fulfilling. It played along with the attack and allowed the caveman before it to deliver a fatal strike. Before it's demise it slashed the caveman across the c.h.e.s.t and transferred its divine essence to the two-legged person. On its dying breath it saw what looked like a spectral ball descend from the sky and enter the caveman.

Hopefully the caveman will find his own destiny...

-----

The memory stopped there as I returned disoriented from different viewpoints and standing on two legs instead of four. However that didn't stop me from feeling mixed emotions.

Both the sadness and joy swirled around me as I contemplated the event. The divine wolf sacrificed itself to give me another chance even if it wasn't its goal in the first place. I can't understand why it would sacrifice itself for such a vague feeling but its actions saved me.

For what reason am I in this position?

Just thinking about it makes me even more sad, so I walk over to the dead wolf. Only now I realize that I have control over my body. The primal side of me is subdued and radiates a sense of grief that feels like it lost a fellow family member.

I decide to worry about that later and use my claws to dig out a grave to place the corpse in. After burying the wolf I hunch over on all fours and stare out into the forest. In my mind I try to transmit feelings of untamed freedom and wind blowing in my face to the primal side of me.

That seems to get a reaction as a grunt that sounds like a grudging acceptance is heard. I felt my body dash like a rocket into the woods as control is handed back to me while a temporary truce is struck between both me and my primal side.

I just hope it doesn't develop a voice.
