Where Secrets Lie

Kara planned on scarfing down her food once she was behind the closed doors of her room; however, the applause given by Alyssa and Amy disrupted those plans.

"What is this?" she asked.

"Amy was telling me that you just had your first overnight stay with Michael," said Alyssa with a cheesy grin on her face.

Upon hearing the clapping, Kate, who had been in the shower, stepped out and pressed her ear to the closed door, eavesdropping on their conversation.

"It's not like that," said Kara.

"If you say so." Amy laughed, "But Michael has never given me fried eggs the morning after."

Kara set the plate and cup down on top of her dresser. "Really guys it is not like that."

"Fine. You don't have to tell us the details," said Alyssa, winking.

Behind the bathroom door, Kate seethed as more and more hate for Kara filled her heart.

Alyssa stood up and started heading for the door, followed by Amy. "I just came to see if you wanted to hang out later. I'm done with my finals and I'm ready to have some fun," she said.

"Sure," Kara called back. "Are you going to join us, Amy?"

"Oh no, I don't want to impose." Amy shook her head and looked toward the bathroom.

Only then did Kara realize the shower stopped a while back, but Kate remained in the bathroom. Surely, she had enough time to towel off. From the look on Amy's face, she clearly suspected Kate had been eavesdropping, but Kara couldn't understand why that mattered.

"What?" Alyssa laughed.

"There's no way you could impose," said Kara

"You're going to join us in our sisterly bonding tonight," said Alyssa, taking Amy by the hand.

"Ok then." She smiled.

"Sounds like it's settled." Kara nodded.

She waved goodbye as the two girls left the room, but she still didn't eat. Her mind was far too busy to think about food. Amy's comment about spending the night with Michael bothered her. She didn't remember anything sexual with him, but the fact that she woke up in his bed confused her. Plus, he brought her breakfast, which was completely not like Michael. The entire thing gave her a big headache, and she decided she needed some time away from seeing or thinking about Michael.

An evening at the beach with Alyssa and Amy seemed like the perfect way to avoid him, and she knew Alyssa would be up for it. She jumped off her bed and headed for the bathroom just as Kate finally exited. Both women glanced at each other as they passed one another, but neither spoke.

As Kara headed down for lunch, excited about the evening's events, she ran into the one person she wanted to avoid the rest of the day: Michael. While she wanted to turn and flee, he seemed more than happy to see her and greeted her with a large, happy grin.

"Hello again, Kara. I hope the day is treating you well."

"It is," she responded, scratching her neck.

"May I ask what you will be doing later on tonight?"

She couldn't lie to him, and she didn't want to lie to him, but she was afraid he might tell her he had other plans in mind. Ultimately, she knew she had to tell him the truth.

"Girl's night out," she mumbled.

"Sounds fun, I bet we could make it even more so if you permitted Logan and myself to join you all tonight."

She started to protest. "Well, it's supposed to be . . . ,"

He interrupted her."8:00 P.M. sounds good. Where were you planning on going?"

What was the point of even asking her permission? Regardless of what she wanted, he was going to do what he wanted to do.

"The beach," she said.

Just as Kara, Amy, and Alyssa arrived at the beach, the clock on the radio turned to 8:00 PM exactly. "Wait, who is that?" Amy asked, pointing at the beach where three figures walked to meet them.

Just then, Kara realized she hadn't mentioned she invited Logan or Michael. However, she had no idea who the third person was. The three girls jumped out of the car and headed toward the figures, and as they grew closer, Kara realized who the third figure was, and she looked far too pleased with herself.

All three of the girls exchanged suspicious looks.

"You invited Michael and Logan?" Alyssa questioned.

Kara questioned back, with a bit more anger than her sister, "You invited Kate?!"
