Where Secrets Lie

Chapter 63:Proposal

"Yes. Either way, you'll have her back," said Michele, shying from Kara's menacing looks. She wore a look of regret, due to the fact, her spell was used against her newfound friend.

Amy stepped in the middle of the tense situation. She took Michele's hand and led her to the bedroom. Michele leaned on Amy, limping to the edge of the bed. Amy then ran into the bathroom and came back carrying a first aid kit. She sat at the witches feet, unpacking the contents.

She noticed Michele's long face, the sadness in her eyes, "Don't worry about Kara." The sound of Amy's voice broke Michele out of her brooding. "If she can get over the idea of Hannah being here, she will definitely get over what you did." Michele nodded her head in agreement but her expression still had a hint of sadness. "Can I?" asked Amy.

Michele looked down at the scape that garnished her knee, "Yes, please."

Amy poured alcohol on a cotton ball and placed it on her skin. Michele involuntarily hissed as it stung. "You didn't know what Elijah was going to do. He used you and she'll see that."

"I hope you're right."

Amy hummed as she bandaged Michele's knee. "All done."

"Thank you," said Michele.

"No problem," Amy replied, smiling.

Downstairs, the mood was not as peaceful. Kara paced back in forth in the living room, trying to wrap her mind around everything.

"Are you ok?" Michael asked as he entered. He was sure, a hole would form in the carpet underneath her feet.

"It's crazy. You know?" She said as approached the glass sliding doors. She thumped her head against the window that looked out to the garden. "To see her, yet not know if she is even alive or dead."

"You know what else is crazy?" asked Michael.

Kara turned around but was rendered speechless. Michael was on one knee with a giant diamond ring in his hands.

"What are you doing?" asked Kara.

Michael stood up. "When we were at the mansion earlier, I went to my room to get this." Kara still stood there, mouth gaping. "I got this ring the day you left. I was going to ask you to marry me..."

Kara looked at the ring, then back to Michael. Her chest finally loosening from the tightness. "I thought you didn't believe in marriage," Kara replied in shock.

"When it's with the right woman, I do." He took her by the hand. "So?"

"Wh-why ask me now?" asked Kara, slightly stuttering.

"Do you see a better time for me ask?" Michael replied

Kara took a minute to think. "Honestly, no."

"So?" Michael got back on his knee. "Will you marry me?" he asked again.

"Yes, you fool," said Kara, letting out a soft chuckle.

Michael swung Kara around, full of joy. He placed her back on the ground and put his lips to hers. The warmth of her lips making his desire more hungry. A bottle of champagne popping startled them apart. Kara looked around to find the source of the noise. Their friends stood in the doorway, watching the happy couple with smiles.

"Congrats!" everyone said in unison.

"You guys were just waiting for him to propose?" asked Kara.

"Congratulations, Kara," said Michele, she stepped into the middle of the room, then closed her eyes. She held her hands out and recited an incantation, "adornish nuptias gratulatione donis cubiculum" Instantly, golden and black balloons filled the room, and a large banner that said "Congrats, Michael and Kara!" hung on the wall. A beautiful layered cake and champagne glasses appeared on the coffee table.

Kara looked around the room along with everyone in amazement, "Thank you," she said to Michele, feeling a little ashamed of her previous behavior.

"It's the least I can do," she replied.

"No. I was wrong. I should have never attacked you like that."

"She's your sister. You were upset."

"Well, I'm done being upset. Tonight, we celebrate..." said Kara, raising a glass.

Hannah raised her glass to meet everyones. The glasses clinked as the bubbly shifted in the chutes, "And then, we get your sister back!"
