Where Secrets Lie

Chapter 73:Impatient

Alex, Alyssa, Kara, and Michael arrived at the site they believed Elijah would open the dimension. Alyssa looked up at the crane looming over them, "This place gives me the creeps."

"Because no one is here or because of the deaths?" Kara nudged one of the metal beams that littered the lot with her foot

A cold shiver ran through Alyssa, "Both."

Alex sniffed around the outside of the building while Alyssa, Kara, and Michael searched the inside. There wasn't much to be found indoors. The only inhabitants of the building were some plastic sheets and what appeared to be construction supplies.

Most of the rooms were still under construction, and some of them didn't even have walls.

"This place is huge," Kara said. "We should split up."

"Is that safe?" Alyssa asked, looking around.

"Yeah," Kara replied as she pulled her jacket up around her neck to stay warm. She looked back at her sister who was wearing a scared look. Kara gently pushed her off in the opposite direction, "You'll be fine."

Michael searched the underground floors while Kara searched the seven rooms on the second floor. Alyssa climbed the stairs to the topmost level. She frantically turned around, scared out of her mind. It was just the wind howling throughout the unfinished building. She quickly departed rejoining with Kara.

"Nothing," Kara said

Alyssa agreed, "Me either."

"HEY GUYSSSSS!" Michael called from deep within the building. As soon as they joined him in the room, they came to an abrupt halt.

"Woah," Kara said, feeling a wave creep throughout her.

"You feel it too?" Alex looked to Alyssa.

"It like agony, fear, and death all at the same time," Alyssa said, her voice full of dread

Michael gazed around the room, "This is where it's going to happen."

"Would have been better in the unfinished portion. The open layout would have given us room to move. Won't have a vantage point since this is the only floor that's done." Kara knocked on the drywall.

"Okay, we know where. Let's go. This place gives me the heebie-jeebies." Alyssa said as she crossed her arms.

"Yes, lets. We must finish the preparations," Alex said. "The time is upon us."

The day had finally come. All of the weapons were complete and the potions were ready. The ten students in training had advanced their combat skills.

Logan watched his students gearing up, "It's amazing how far they have improved in three weeks." He looked at Darin, "We make a pretty good team. Where did you say you learned how to fight like that?" Logan asked.

"My uncle taught me," Darin responded. He glanced over to the servants. "I wish we had more time.

He sighed, "I know."

"I feel like this is our fight. They have nothing to do with this."

Michael took her hands, "A clan is family. When it's one person fight, it's all our fight."

BANG!

Their door flew open and Hannah stood in the doorway, visibly annoyed, "LET'S GO!"

Kara and Michael followed behind in time to see Logan putting everyone into troops, and each group had their own plan of action.

Hannah crossed her arms, her finger tapping rapidly on her forearm. "You okay?" Kara approached her. They had become so close, she could tell when Hannah was getting antsy.

"We can't let Catherine come back." Hannah picked up a stake and slipped it in her jean pocket, "We just can't."

"We won't," Kara said rubbing her shoulder in comfort.

"From what I remember, the things that must be done for the ritual should give us time to get there. Don't worry," Alex tried to assure her, but the look on his face gave away the fact that he was a bit more troubled than he acted.

Reluctantly, Hannah agreed to remain patient, but after an hour her patience was running thin. She didn't understand why everyone thought they had all the time in the world. Why didn't they see that?

Kara slid the van door shut after loading some weapons, ''We're ready to go?" She said walking back into the house.

"As ready as we'll ever be," replied Darin.

Kara twisted her head back and forth. "What's wrong?" Michael asked.

Kara looked at him with a dumbfounded look, "Where's Hannah?"
