Chapter 10: Alternate Universe, Here I Come

The griffin soared over half the forest carrying a human, flying uninterrupted in the sky.

There were no disturbances from the other monsters during the flight.

Most of them could not fly. For those that could, they did not dare to provoke a high-level monster like the griffin. Xi En made his way smoothly through half the forest. It was much more effortless now as compared to the past ten days.

He grew more elated, but anxious as he was now filled with the hope of leaving the forsaken place.

He did not go back on his words either. He delivered mana to the griffin he rode which made it fly faster. The griffin responded with a pleased cry. Obviously, what he did had completely enraptured the griffin.

It prompted Xi En to take a look at the effect of the “Taming” skill.

“Taming”

– Active skill

– Uses mana in a specific way to tame monsters. A higher level enables taming of higher level monsters which are rarer and stronger.

What a useful skill!

Xi En poured in mana to the griffin with more zest, making it fly with more enthusiasm as well.

Naturally, it depleted a lot of his mana. However, Xi En’s mana was not a drop lesser due to the “Magic Lift”.

If Xi En’s mana was 100 under normal circumstances, it became 1000 after the enhancement of “Magic Lift” as the effect was applied no fewer than ten times. This was the effect of “Magic Lift” when it was at Level 1.

When Xi En upgraded “Magic Lift” to its maximum, his mana was immensely higher than it was previously. As the level went up, the enhancement of mana grew increasingly. This was how Xi En applied “Extreme Evolve” at his whim.

Under such conditions, in addition to “Mana Recovery”, Xi En’s mana was recovered at the highest speed possible whenever it was depleted. It almost seemed like cheating as Xi En’s depleted mana could be fully replenished within a second particularly when the skill was at its maximum level.

Hence, there was no need for Xi En to worry if his mana sufficed. Even when he had depleted a large amount of mana, it would still be at the full level as if it had not been used.

As a result, Xi En could continue channeling mana to the griffin to make it carry him flying.

After flying for some time, Xi En finally saw the edge of the forest.

“Are we finally out?”

Xi En was exhilarated when he saw the vast plain at the edge of the forest.

“It’s been ten days. I can finally leave the damned forest.”

Xi En was dying to meet someone and eat as a civilized person instead of living with the monsters, eating their flesh, and surviving in the wild.

“Eek!”

As if it sensed Xi En’s thoughts, the griffin cried again and flapped its wings, accelerating its speed.

The griffin was truly fast, much like a fighter plane in Xi En’s previous life. It allowed him to traverse the forest where he had spent ten days wandering but was still within it.

“I hear that griffins have the instinct to forecast the weather and fly in any climate. Some myths even say that griffins are the deities’ rides. I see how it can be true now.”

Xi En complimented the griffin. It cried in pride, flying even faster.

Traveling at a speed that put his previous speed to shame, Xi En left the forest behind half a minute later. Soon after, he entered the vast plain. He then saw a number of people in the distance.

The people were traveling on man-made roads. Some of them were on horse carriages while others were riding horses. They seemed to be traders, while a few looked like soldiers and knights.

On the edge of the plain, there were a few ranches and farms.

The griffin’s appearance attracted attention. The people below were scurrying as they panicked and acted out of fear. The soldiers and knights were readying their bows and arrows in preparation for the griffin’s assault.

They probably did not notice that there was someone riding on its back.

Xi En felt like getting down and interacting with them, but he might face unnecessary hostility if he appeared with a monster.

“I wonder how people in this world view the monsters. Better be careful.”

It would be a pity if he was attacked just for traveling with such creatures.

“Best head to town then.”

Xi En decided to push his landing plan aside. Shortly after, a town appeared in front of him.

It was a considerably large town with high walls surrounding it. There were numerous shadows on the wall. They were probably the soldiers and knights who were patrolling and standing guard.

“Okay, let’s land somewhere near.” Xi En decided. Otherwise, the guards on the wall would certainly launch attacks, when they saw the griffin, to stop it from entering the town.

“Eek!”

The griffin made a sound and landed obediently.

A while later, it arrived at the deserted outskirts. Xi En then hopped off its back.

“Thank you for your effort.” Xi En patted the griffin’s head and said softly, “You can go back now.”

The griffin did not obey this time, calling out to Xi En continually instead.

“What? You want to continue?”

A chuckle escaped Xi En after a slight pause.

“I’m sorry. I’m going to enter the human town next. I won’t be able to bring you along. Besides, I won’t be able to let you enjoy the treatment anymore. Go back now,” Xi En told the griffin.

Who knew if the griffin understood what he said. It made a few more cries before looking at him with a slight reluctance. After a long moment, the griffin gave a last cry and flapped its wings to fly back up into the sky.

It hovered in the air above Xi En for some time before making a crisp cry and left.

After seeing the griffin off, Xi En waited until the creature vanished into the far distance of the sky, before he turned around to look at the town a little farther away.

“Alternate universe, here I come.”

With that, Xi En anxiously strode toward town.
