*The morning bell rings*

“Alright homeroom is starting. Class president. ”

“Stand, bow, onegaishimasu”

Class: “onegaishimasu”

[T/N: onegaishimasu or お願いします doesn’t necessarily just mean please. Japanese isn’t a straight forward say what you mean language like English so they’re in a way like just showing respect to the teacher and thanks for the teacher teaching them. I never had to do it when I was in Japan so it’s hard to explain.]

“Well, there’s something to report … today. Well … Congratulations for getting the grand prize, you all worked hard. It was amazing … Well, it’s an annual event to do a recital of the play that won the highest award at the elementary school.”

The entire class:”……….”

“So…..Do it again….the end!”

Class:”Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh~”

“Right….. so that’s uhm… class president can I talk to you for second……..class president come here!”

“C-coming.”

“……….”

(S- seriously I have to be Romeo again?)

Lunch time

“Change the script!?”

“President what are you talking about?”

“Calm down you two, this is a cafeteria, if you aren’t quiet you’ll disturb the others.”

“”….s-sorry.””

“As long as you understand. Now, I’ll explain properly, that’s why I invited you two, Ando and Asakura, the stars of the play to have lunch with me.”

“Ohh that’s why you were all like ‘How about some lunch?'”

“I see.”

(I was certain they were going to make me play some sort of penalty game.)

(I thought the president was setting up a situation for Ando and I too meet together. )

“In other words the reason the teacher called you over in homeroom was to talk about changing the screenplay? ”

“Yes, for when we perform for the elementary school, they want us to change the play so that there is a happy ending.”

“Happy ending….”

(I see so that’s what it was.)

“But why would the teacher want that?”

“Asakura, do you remember what happens in our play?” Ando..?

“Of course I remember, the loner and Juliet!”

” And do you remember the ending?”prez

“President…. Of course I do! Juliet follows after Romeo and the two are finally together in heaven.”

“Right, Asakura…”
“If we showed something like that-”
“To a group of small children-”
“At an elementary school.”

“”What do you think is going to happen? ”

“……..Pandemonium. ”

(Right, for small children our play is too sad. But the school thought of that and directed the teacher to get us to make it have a happy ending.)

“So basically….. Ando, can I ask that of you?”

“I understand, I’ll think it over, president. ”

“Thanks.”

(But, a happy ending…..)

“But why did he talk to you about it and not Ando, who wrote the play?”

“Uhm thats…”

“If he tried to talk to me about it, I imagine the whole class would have gathered around us.”

“O………h, sorry..”

“Ando…….I was trying not to say that. ”

“……..”

(Can I write a decent happy ending?)

[Speed reading]

“Hmmmm.”

“Asakura, what’s wrong, you look worried about something. ”

“Well, yesterday I read this comedy about someone using drugs to survive.”

“Ah! The hero of that OL reincarnated in a different world and trained his muscles with the cheat ability “Doping Creation”, it’s a fantasy survival novel, I thought it was interesting so I bought it with some points I had from a sale.”

“Right! So I bought volume one of the original novel but…”

“Hm? The novel doesn’t progress very quickly tho.”

“Yeah, I’ve read half the book and so far it hasn’t even passed where the story in the comic is at yet, there was so much fluff at the beginning. My interest is….”

“A~h it’s fading right?”

“It i~ss~. I know that it gets interesting later on but it’s so hard to keep reading.”

“So, why not just skip ahead to the parts you don’t know? ”

“That would be such a waste! Because of it’s size this book was $10!”

“Well, I guess I understand that side of things as well.”

“Anyway, what about you Ando? Once you read a comic, if you buy the books do you jump to the part you haven’t read yet or do you start from the beginning? ”

“Nah I’m like you Asakura, I read it from the beginning. The comic usually cuts a lot out from the novels so I look forward to seeing what’s different. ”

“Ando, you’re so serious when it comes to things like math and light novels. I understand where you’re coming from but I honestly don’t feel like it.”

“Then why not just speed read it? ”

“………Ando.. you say speed read but… I don’t think there is a high-schooler alive that could read a full light novel in just a few seconds.”

“No, I’m not talking about the speed reading you see in light novels an comics I mean like a more normal speed reading. Like since you already know what happens you read a sentence here and there to keep up with the flow of the story. So if you just read the interesting parts you can read something that would normally take two hours In just thirty minutes.”

“I see.”

“So, do you understand now? ”

“Yes, I understand that the speed at which you read light novels is crazy.”

“What do you mean!?”
