Why don't you build a village on top of the world tree
Episode X: Joynesley Hosts Design Competition
Hosted by Yoinsley, the venue for the design competition was on a branch with nothing.
There are several villages nearby that have prepared accommodation for the participants, but there is really nothing on the branches subject to the design. It was an uncharacteristic branch found everywhere just with some inclination.
It is the outline of this tournament that we are going to design to create a village from scratch on this branch.
Architects are only subject to participants, and designs that cross another branch are acceptable. It was only a gesture to design a village of its own on stage only on this murderous landscaped branch.
Rishay and I stood at the venue with three Mermies who for some reason told me to take them to the store manager, and I roar unexpectedly.
"This is part of Kanes' anti-horse training."
"In the Jianqiao family exam, you mourned the failure of anti-horse training, didn't you? I don't think it's a bad idea to dig up talent by letting people design villages."
"It's not good for Amane."
Melmie laughs at Kerakera when she says she cares about you.
Complete the entry at the reception and get a booklet with detailed rules.
"Is the measurement data on it?"
I know it's something that Joynesley looked into, but you should probably do some surveying on me, just in case. I don't think I would do something like a hook problem, but there are things that I can see by measuring them with my own body.
There are just three of us here, me and Richay and Melmie, and the measurements can be crisp just inside you.
"You're not putting your stuff in the inn?
"Since the sun goes down from now to the inn, I want to complete the survey first."
Bad for tired Richay, but carry out surveys.
Measurement data such as slope and branch curvature will be included in the notebook at hand.
"Is that it?"
"Where are you going?
Melmie peeks into my notebook and snaps my neck.
"The numbers aren't wrong?
As Melmie pointed out, the results of the measurements were different from those published by Yoinsley.
Was it really a hooking issue? I don't think anyone's gonna catch on.
There are so many teams besides us that are doing surveys.
"You should try to re-measure it."
"I'm tired."
Richay complains with her lips pointy.
"I'll rub my legs and hips when I get home. Just hang out a little longer."
"Arms too, please"
"Yes, sir."
"Please also to Mr. Melmie"
As much as I don't seem to need a massage, I'll probably wave my arms around and ask for it. Bitterly smile at Melmie, while I intercept the survey again.
As a result, the figures were still incorrect.
"What do you mean? Are you deforming because of the changes in temperature?
"That's not the extent of the error. For example, something really heavy came down on the branches, or something on that scale."
It is not a numerical error that can be left unattended. There's obviously something about this branch.
As the three of us poked each other in the face as we looked at the notebook, architects and bridgebuilders who apparently found errors in the numbers, just like us, called out.
"Did you guys notice the numerical error, too?
"That means you too?
"Oh, we were all just talking about how strange this branch is."
Has the line of our mistake completely disappeared?
"Let's exchange contacts. So, I think you should speak to the other guests at the inn you're staying in today and poke at the results of the survey."
"It's possible that Joynesley is up to something, but we can't leave this number alone."
Participants who accepted my proposal scattered across each village.
I also took Richay and Melmie to the assigned inn.
"- One room, is it?
"There are more participants than expected and there are not enough rooms."
The owner of the village inn bows his head in regret.
I can't help but have a room. But what is it?
I look back at the two women behind me.
Richay is kind of sleeping in the room with him. I've slept in the office as much as I've slept in a fish.
But I haven't had that kind of out-of-the-box relationship with Melmie. Sounds unexpected, but even if we get together at work, Melmie is in another room with the rest of the women. I was originally a shop clerk in a wooden cage, so sometimes I don't own my office for accommodation.
Richay doesn't look particularly concerned, and he does so as soon as he enters the room.
"As for Mr. Melmie, Amane, it's fine in the same room as you. I don't mind the same bed."
"You understand this isn't a joke situation, right?
"Should I even kiss you to prove I'm not kidding?
When Melmie gave me a throw kiss, the Jianqiao family in the lobby whistled and stood up.
It's okay if he doesn't care.
The participants in the lobby turned to us without paying attention, so I speak to them.
"Has anyone eaten the measurements and figures published by Yoinsley differently with regard to this branch?
To my inquiry, a few people raised one hand.
And gaze gathers at the participants who did not raise their hands.
"You, you have a number?
"It's off to the point of error, but it's not as problematic as it seems."
Participants who were in the lobby cuttingly for the conversation verbally publish their own measurements.
I lined up the measurements for fifteen people in the back of my brain, and I looked around at the participants in the lobby.
"The more the measurement date later slips in, the more the curvature of the branches changes."
"But if it's not a matter of weight, it's not rotten. Even if the curvature changes, the numbers change in all directions."
Yes, it is usually overweight that is given as a factor in changing the curvature of the branches. If there are heavy objects on the branches, the branches bend naturally downwards. Our measurements also applied to this.
However, some of the participants in this lobby had different measurements and had an upward curvature error. This will require such factors as pulling the branches up from the bottom. This error occurs, for example, in the case where the bird eater spider has nested.
Drawing a graph behind the brain, the change in the branches since Yoinsley took his measurements is the curvature of the Z axis, which changes upwards and then downwards so as to re-hold it after bending downwards. This involves some change in the curvature of the X-axis.
To the cause of these changes, I draw conclusions from the knowledge of the Devil's Bug Hunter.
"... wax-ant"
It's a demon worm that resembles a cetacean.
Build a nest inside the branches of the world tree, about fifty centimeters long. It is a habit to maintain the strength of the branches themselves by covering the inner walls of the nest with secreted wax, and the curvature of the branches may change due to the contraction of the wax.
However, when the curvature of the branches changes on this scale, a fairly large nest of wax-ants falls asleep in those branches.
The participants in the lobby heard me whine.
"Wait a minute. Wax Ant is a carnivore. Even though there are only villages around here, can we gather enough Devil Bug Hunters to exterminate such a massive nest?
"I don't know, but I think you should report it to Yoinsley anyway. Sorry to bother you, but would you let me submit your measurements as evidence?
"I don't mind that."
To sum up the conversation, I will leave the survey materials of the participants in the lobby and go directly to the tournament operator with the two Jianqiao families present.
One of the operators of the tournament, who was allowed to stay at the innkeeper's house next to the inn, was an interviewer when I took the Jianqiao family qualification.
The interviewer who sees me scratches his cheek like he's in trouble.
"I hear you passed. Congratulations."
"I've been hung up."
Not to you, not to Richay.
Then I'll cut to the chase.
"This is the measurement of the branches on the stage, thank you. The figures examined by the participants and those published by Yoinsley seem to be eating wrong, and I would like to ask you to re-examine them. Personal prediction, but I was wondering if WaxAnt was building a nest."
The complexion of the interviewer changed when I stated my feelings along with the survey materials that I had provided to the participants.
"Let's see"
The interviewer, comparing the survey materials, held down his eyebrows so that he could have a headache.
"What if there was a nest of wax-ants, would it be a fairly massive object? Amane, you also signed up for the Demon Bug Hunter Guild. How big do you think it is?
"Honestly, I don't know. They say some demon bug hunters can check the size of their nests with echoes, so look for them."
"With an echo... can you do that too"
"Limited to the powerful. You should get your head count first, above all else. Because even the wax-ants have a lot of numbers."
Besides, if we were to get into the nest, it would be a battle in the closet. The wax ant itself is fifty centimeters long and small, but it is protected by a hard crust without being an example of a demonic worm. You'll need a luxury iron arrow if you're going to finish it.
But if you hang up the recruiting, the Warbug Hunters will be sober. The waxes secreted by wax ants are materials with a wide range of applications that can be used as raw materials for candle materials as well as building materials.
Even if I use an iron arrow, I get enough of it.
"Hang on to nearby towns and cities to recruit Demon Bug Hunters right away under the name of Yoinsley. I'll notify the tournament participants tomorrow, but I need you to tell them not to go to the venue branch."
"Okay. I'll tell the guests at the same inn."
I promised the interviewer I'd leave the place behind.
Still, this could be a cancellation of the tournament.
Back at the inn, the participants were waiting for me on the first floor.
"What's the result?
Asked by one of the participants, I repeat the interviewer's words as they were.
"Call it off."
"It's possible we could change venues and hold them again."
"I'm sure he set up this tournament by burning a sense of confrontation with Beautellarm."
Participants start rumouring verbally.
I'm headed to the inn counter when I realize there's no Richay and Melmie on the first floor.
"If you're with me, I'll wait in your room first"
"Was I? Thank you."
Thank the receptionist and go upstairs from the stairs at the first floor end.
Knock on the door of the room told by the receptionist and call out inside.
"Can I come in?
"It's Amane's room too, so don't hesitate."
Wisdom to avoid the classic event that I was dressed inside. Japanese boys are a crazy race who can learn the wisdom to use reality even from fiction.
I just got a copy, and I'm going in.
"... are you both pajamas"
I knew Richay usually wore pajamas when he went to bed, but does Melmie wear them too? And cute.
What, that cuff frill. It's so cute.
"Did you get the story together?
Richay gets up and receives my undressed jacket and puts it on a wall hanger.
"He's recruiting a Demon Bug Hunter to crusade. I hear you've been re-investigating it for a while."
I took my shirt off and tried to get my clothes out of my bag, and Richay prepared a set first and offered it to me. The top of the sleeping roll that Richay put together for me was, naturally, a sleeping roll shirt. The trousers seem to be at the bottom. The order in which I dress remains the same.
"How many Demon Bug Hunters will you need to crusade the Wax Ant nest?
"If the number of individuals inside doesn't reach three quetzas, a total of thirty of twenty actual spare and rescue fighters. This time the nest seems pretty big, so I don't see why not."
The Devil Bug Hunter is also pinned down, and this time the skill required because it is an internal sweep of the nest becomes somewhat special. Specifically, it is a close combat ability using short bow skills and swords that can be combated even in a closed area.
Few Devil Bug Hunters train melee fights because sniping with long bows on trees and cross shooting in groups are the main methods of combat. Normal demon worms boast a few metres class of bodies, naturally because they are suicidal acts such as melee fighting because they have a crust.
I think there are a lot of people who can handle a short bow, so it's possible to secure some combat power, but what happens when you do it?
When I took my socks off, Richay gave me a bag to keep my laundry together. Gratefully receive, throw in the undressed clothes together.
"Wax ant can also be a nail material, right?
Richay asks me as I clear the bags I put my clothes in.
A nail material is a building material that uses the shell of a demon worm. They can be used in a variety of applications, including as floorboards, walls, reinforcements, and cosmetic boards. Some special objects may be used for the purpose of absorbing vibrations.
"Wax Ant's nail material has the effect of playing dirt with a hard and pure white appearance, so I add non-slip chops to make it a flooring around the water, or use it on the wall so that it's okay for fat to jump in the kitchen. The machining difficulty is quite high, but what about the artisan feel around it, Melmie?
Shaking the story, Melmie was staring at me and Richay and keeping her mouth half-open.
I look at Richay and I wonder if anything would have surprised me.
As always, and I don't see any element of surprise in particular.
"What's wrong?
When Richay asked, Melmie returned to me.
"Now, very naturally, you put the laundry together and put it in a bag, right?
"What's that?
"... that bag, Richay's change of clothes was in there first, wasn't it?
"Right. You don't have to bother getting two bags, and I take it for granted?
I look at Richay with a strange neck, and Melmie shifts her gaze to me.
"Uh, always like this? Even in the office?"
"Well, it's more or less like this"
"Richay receives your undressed jacket and hangs it on the wall?
"... ah"
I guess what Melmie's trying to say. But Richay looked at me like he still didn't get it and tilted his neck again.
Melmie asks such a question to Richay.
"Wouldn't it be Amane's to put it in that bag of laundry, if it belonged to another man?
"... I don't like it. I'll do my best to reject it."
Don't put that total rejection in your mind anyway. Because the man's pure heart will be scattered.
I would definitely snap. I've naturally bagged laundry so far, but it's something I've been crossing a dangerous bridge.
Richay also stares at the bag with the laundry in it, looking like he finally realizes it.
"Even in the orphanage, men and women put it in bags, but this is what happened."
"I couldn't tell it was natural, even with Mr. Melmie's eyes."
Melmie holds her head and points at her jacket hanging amicably lined up on the wall.
"Like that, I didn't think it was a couple. Besides, I'll even get Amane dressed and give it to her flat."
It's weird if you ask me. They didn't even give me my underwear, so I was through, but my senses seemed mahy, too.
Richay nodded deeply as he was impressed by his understanding.
And he looked at me with some sort of fold in his own face.
"If you don't like Amane, do as you've always done, but don't mind?
"Don't worry about it. We'll split it when we wash anyway."
I'll do my own laundry. Naturally in this world where there are no washing machines.
"Then it's settled."
"Melmie, I feel like we've been shown something, but if we're convinced..."
Mermie, who sighed uncommonly, returns to the story.
"It's Wax Ant's nail material, but it's hard to process because it's hard anyway. I can handle enough carvings, but it's hard to tile them all the way up when I use them for slabs in the air corridors. If you can do this, you'll be recognized as half a man in our engineering shop."
"You're not alone."
"One serving is somewhere else than technology. I'm half a man, too."
Ask a question as Richay sat on the edge of the bed listening to Melmie explain.
"Some bugs are called beaants, right?
"Oh, there he is. The guy who uses it for the echo board. Is it hard to keep it clean?
When Melmie snaps her neck, she looks at me in line with Richay. I'm a warbug hunter because I know more about crusades.
Beant is a demon worm resembling a winged croak ant. The body length is around a meter.
"Probably scratch the crust. Don't be useless as a reverberation plate. Still, it's hard and can be used for abrasives, so it has a wide range of applications"
There's compatibility issues, but I'd be confident I'd stay stable and clean.
"Is Beaant's beautiful crust expensive?
"I wonder if it would be a fair amount if it could be used on the echo board. I think a piece of jade coin is guaranteed for one Beaant adult. Even the Devil Bug Hunter Guild teaches its staff to buy out quality Beaant crusts that can be used on the echo board, even if they are in stock."
I can also see how awesome it is if you think that the fee for a request to the Jianqiao family, one of the elite architects, is basically from a single piece of jade coin, which is an unimaginable elite.
Richay sounded, heh, impressed.
"Rumor has it that a Tramia city north of the West Skyscraper View Terrace is planning to create a concert hall, but if it's a wax-ant crust, it's not going to be a reverberation board?
"Don't be. That's why it's so precious. I mean, what are you talking about tramia cities making concert halls?
"Earlier, the participants on the ground floor were just rumouring. I don't know if that's true."
"Maybe we should do some research. When this tournament is cancelled, we'll have to go back to the office and hunt for the bug and work out the office expenses for the time being."
"Right. If the city of Tramia is going to make a concert hall, I think hunting for Beant would be more efficient."
Talking to Richay, Melmie, who slept on the bed, squeaks bossy as she pokes her cheek cane.
"It's like a conversation between a couple talking about the family."
Two days later, Operation Wax Ant Crusade was launched by Demon Bug Hunters coming from nearby towns and cities.
This was due to the discovery of the entrance to WaxAnt's nest as a result of a preliminary investigation.
The nest entrance was open where it hit the sides of the branches.
The hole drilled in that place, which is like only visible on a cliff, is about a meter in diameter. Perhaps the interior should be between two and three meters in diameter.
The Warbug Hunters used their lifeline to reach and descend the entrance to the nest on the side of the branch and begin their attack inside.
As a result of three days of fighting, he succeeded in wiping out all the wax ants that were safely lurking in the nest.
The interruption and postponement of the tournament were also whispered for the time being, but Yoinsley declared the tournament to continue.
I was just surprised I'd be interrupting too, but I'm convinced to look at the model of Wax-Ant's nest inside the branch.
The branches that killed the landscape can also create interesting villages by using cavities that were the nests of wax ants inside.
He also decided that the strength of the branches was maintained by the wax secreted by WaxAnt and that it was possible to continue the tournament, Joynesley said.
Participants also expressed interest in this special stage and seem to be working out a design that uses this by calling WaxAnt's nest the underground tunnel.
I also run a pen in front of the drawing table in the inn room.
"What do you say, Amanechi?"
Melmie hugs me from behind like I was waiting at the time I put the pen down. I put my jaw over my head and started looking at the blueprints with my arms around my neck.
"The other participants seem to have a lot of designs like treating the basement and the building is up there, but the amateurs are different."
"I don't feel comfortable keeping it as an underground tunnel. They have a plan to make it a mushroom farm, but I thought it would be interesting if we could tourist this massive underground tunnel."
"It's called the ropeway in the meantime, does Amane like the tourism industry?
Come on, get away from me.
Richay, who gently dropped a handknife on Mermie's head, enters our conversation and looks at the blueprint.
"Accommodation? If you put it that way, there's something in that tunnel that doesn't sound like a wax."
"Wow, Richay says it's horny"
"... Melmie, I wonder what that means"
Richay stares at me and Melmie puts one hand on her mouth.
"Doesn't it porn to care if it sounds in the lodging?
"What is it about offering a quiet place to sleep?"
Richay whispers porn words.
What Melmie is saying is a love-ho use, and what Richay is saying is only an accommodation where you can enjoy a calm atmosphere.
I design in the latter direction. I think it takes courage just to suggest a village in Love Ho Street with a whole underground area. The proposed one will also eat.
The shape of the underground tunnel is also being closely examined, and it is being plotted to select where the vibrations and sounds of the building on the branches do not sound, and yet whether it is not possible to create planetarium in the largest part of the underground tunnel. I intend to use wings with the properties of a demonic bug's light accumulation called Winglight, which is also used in the library of Yoinsley for the light source.
The hardest way to design an underground tunnel is to secure a light source.
Although the light sources present in this world are caused by fires such as wax-ant candles, straw bundles made from the leaves of the world tree and the stems of the tomato we use as staple foods, this one is not preferred for use in the basement due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
So, it's the winglight feathers that look at you, but it's very expensive and hard to secure a number. Distribution itself is very small in the first place.
"I guess the light source will be Takowka"
Takowka is a two-year grass that shines leaves at night and is used for street lights and so on in this world where it is not preferable to burn fire to live on trees. It is a convenient plant that blossoms at the end of the first year while the leaves are coloured and the leaves shine for a year. The light isn't very strong, so I can't read the book or anything, but I would be able to walk in the basement.
"Where do you make the Takowka fields?
Richay peeks into the blueprint as he cuts up a dispute with Melmie.
Takowka is two years of grass, and the only time it emits light is a year from blooming to withering. Importing from the outside is too expensive, so raising in the village is a prerequisite.
The difficulty of not knowing the emission color after a year is that this takouka can cause the leaves to stain black and not glow if you are unlucky. There are often two colors on the leaves.
It would be depressing to illuminate in too many colors than it is in the basement. I think two to three colors is the limit.
The size of the field also has to be made spare considering the possibility of unavailable takoukas such as black coming out. Then we need to secure the water, and we just have to build a reservoir, but can this branch, hollowed out inside, withstand the weight of the reservoir?
Think of it as this and do the math over and over again.
Because the inside is a cavity branch, there is variation in the load limit amount even on the branch. Simply selecting the right place to install a reservoir is a big job.
Ground buildings also needed to be a little elaborate to bring people into underground hotels.
I don't know how my design, which is less powerful in terms of design, resonates with the evaluation, but I'm going to do it all myself.
Finish the last fix and I'll stand up with the blueprints in one hand.
"When this is over, why don't we launch it in Yoinsley's office?"
"Fine. I didn't even get to celebrate Amane's passing the bridge-building exam."
"Are you two willing to eat delicious food alone?
"I'm gonna ask Melmie out, too."
Richay smiles bitterly and Melmie decides to gut pose as "OK".
Leaving two busy people discussing what kind of launch to make, I headed to submit the design to the competition management.
Well, it's right next door to this inn.
Submit the design to the owner of the inn and the interviewer who was drinking. On the interviewer's lap was a boy like your son in this house. They're nostalgic.
"Amane, is that you? Looks like you've been digging into the strengths of the tunnel. Would you mind if I showed you?
"I'd love to hear your opinion"
"You can't start over than you submitted, can you?
"Fine. I just want your opinion."
This interviewer is also qualified to build bridges. From my point of view, he is a senior.
I intend to do a lot of it, but I would like to use it as a reference in the future if I can get my opinion in person.
The interviewer looked at my blueprint and sighed small, "Ho," as impressed.
"Accommodation? It's a good place to look. This planetarium is what projects the night sky into the ceiling, isn't it?
"That's right. I was wondering if it would be interesting to talk about the constellations and the myths surrounding them at the same time."
"Some cities do have such facilities. It should have been a city near Beauterrum in the west. You should give it a try. The cities on the west side have so many interesting buildings and bridges that I think Amane would be a good inspiration for you."
"I'm hoping to take a leg once, but I haven't had a chance"
Sometimes the eastern skyscraper, Joynesley, is the base, and the western skyscraper view terrace is a difficult distance to extend.
Yoinsley and Beauterrum are hanging out with something, but that's not just incisive and counterproductive. So, I don't have to worry that my legs will create a grudge, but I think it's annoying.
The interviewer looks at me as I do the blueprints.
"I still want to play with your design. It's good to stick to pragmatism, economy and rationality, but learning a different perspective should definitely not be a bad thing. I think this blueprint is pretty good, but I still care about the lack of brand new in the building. I don't feel comfortable enough in the building to bring people into the basement. I can pay for your trip to Beautellarm."
"You can't take care of me that much. It's okay."
"Hmm? Right."
The interviewer, who seemed a little sorry, stirred up the liquor and slapped me gently in the arm.
"Whatever it is, you're still young. It's too soon to live a way that pins one thing down."
"Right. I'll think about my plans when I get back to Yoinsley."
It's a good opportunity.
The interviewer invited me to drink only one drink, and I went back to the inn room.
Melmie was desperately stopping Richay from cooking handicrafts to see what kind of transition he followed.
Melmie notices me and opens her mouth.
"Amane, stop Richay! Trying to make food crude again."
"I've improved, too. Even boiled eggs can be made properly."
"You can't be!
"Let me make it at least once!
I don't think I can pack it up.
I peel the two of them off and hold the discussion between them.
As a result, Richay decided to make one boiled egg here and eat it, and Richay stood in the kitchen.
Richay puts the eggs properly in the shell-to-shell water as Mel and I spit and watch.
Are you a heater from the water? I'm the one who boils and then gently boils in.
After a while, Richay, who was seriously staring at the pan, gives her eggs out of hot water with her balls.
"What do you say? You can do it right, right?
I'll meet Melmie in the face. We were convinced that this result was a natural consequence of each other, but I am aware of the previous events that Richay himself could not tell by mouth.
Look at Richay and give him the little bowl he was preparing.
"... crack that egg in here"
"I'm gonna peel your shell off, so just give me a minute."
"Wait, don't hurry up. The shell..."
Richay, lightly beaten with boiled eggs on the edge of a small bowl, thumbs into the crack and tries to peel the shell.
The egg crumbled at Richay's hand, trying to peel the shell without even asking me to stop it.
"... why?
Richay groans, staring at the contents that remain raw rather than ripe. The inner part of the shell solidified slightly white induced sadness.
"I said I boiled it out of the water, and it boils for a while, and then I raise the eggs. Pulling an egg out of hot water before it boils shouldn't harden the contents"
"I knew Richay wasn't the right cook."
Melmie hangs the chase and stabs Todome.
The day after the conclusion of such an act, the results of the Games were announced.
The number one plan was to use it as a library, paying attention to the fact that the wax secreted by wax ants helps to maintain constant temperature and humidity.
I was the result of second place.
Accommodation eyewitnesses were evaluated, but it was determined that few visitors came from the surrounding cities and towns to use hotels inside the branches.
The best was the one who missed it, but the Jianqiao family and others also pushed the second place, so there was one more celebration for the modest feast that was planned to be held at Joynesley's office.
