Ch. 64: The Docks

Gina: [Unmeh~]

Luke: “Ohh, it’s Gina. Did you come to help us too?”

The next morning, Boris brought his younger sister, Gina, and came to town.

Only since recently, Gina has finally become used to being around us.

Boss: [Behー]

Luke: “Boss, you came too? Looks like we will get a lot of work done today.”

Gonta: [I’m here too~]

Gonzo: [As am I.]

Good, we have all the help we need.

Everyone except Gonzo will collect stones. Boss nimbly hit and rolled the stones and threw them into the BOX.

Once the stones began overflowing, I made them into stone blocks.

I placed the final stone block onto the ground, and Gonzo would come, pick it up, and place it where we were building the docks.

The stones were 160 cm (~5’ 3”) tall and wide. Maybe I should put about 3 of them side by side?

Luke: “Gonzo, could you place the blocks in rows of threeー”

Gonzo: [If not, it would be difficult carrying down the cargo. I have been doing so from the beginning.]

Luke: “As expected of you, Gonzo. You’ve considered things a from human perspective. Thank you.”

Gonzo: [........iーit’s nothing. Do not make a fuss about that.]

I saw his bluish, silver scales on his face blush slightly as he hurriedly carried the stone blocks and flew away.

Gonzo acts similar to humans in a lot of ways.

We were finally at the stage of creating the final stones to align the heightーーwhen Princess Aires came over with a guard of knights.

Eri: “Sir Luke~, Sia~. I brought you lunch~”

Luke: “Oh, thank you.”

Sia: “Hungee~”

Aside from the Princess, the Knights were also carrying things too.

They had hay, and oh, vegetables too. It was probably for Boss, Boris, and Gina. And a few fruits as well.

Luke: “Gonzo, let’s take a break.”

Gonzo: [That is well. Lou Quain, can you make water.]

Luke: “Sure.”

I fill the BOX with sea water and separate out the salt. It’s the first time I’ve done this with this much sea water.

When I opened the lid, there was a fairly large salt crystal at the bottom.

The BOX was about 50 cm (~20 in.) big, but inside, inside, the space was the same as 160 cm (~5’ 3”) cube space.

But I was able to stick my arm in there and pick up the large salt crystal.

With this much water, there was a lot of sand inside too. I poured the sand out of the BOX.

Luke: “Hm? There’s something else still at the bottom.”

I took it out, and then stood on Gonzo’s hand.

He brought me to his face, and I let him drink the water from the BOX.

Gonzo: [(gulp, gulp, gulp) Ahhhhh…]

Luke: “Do you need more?” Gonzo: “No need. Please give Gonta and the others water as well.]

Luke: “Okay.” Before I did so, I took the strange object and placed it inside the BOX to assess it.

[A concentrated mass of Oceanic Microscopic Organism and Plankton]

………….

Ack?!?!

Microscopic organisms?!

Wait, I shouldn’t be surprised. There should be lots of microscopic organisms and plankton inside the ocean.

But…….it’s the first time to see something like this.

Was the concentration so small in the past that we just couldn’t see them?

SーSo….where did all the previous go?

When we drank the waterーーwait, that’s probably not true. I can only draw out one thing out of the BOX at a time. Even if we drank directly out of the BOX, only water came out.

So……did it just fall out eventually?

Hmmm, I need to be more careful going forward.

For Gonta and the Sheepoos, I took out the salt crystal and micro-organisms first before filling up their water bowls.

“Sir Lou Quain. Do you plan to complete building the docks by today?” Luke: “Oh no. Now I have to smooth out the surface and do some measuring and adjustments so…….it will probably be finished some time tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow……..but it has only been three days since you began, no? Normally, you couldn’t make a dock in such a short period of time…”

The Knights all strained a smile at the news.

Luke: “I’d like to finish this as soon as possible so we can request for more carpenters from the mainland.”

“Ohhh, I see. When you returned a half a month ago, someone broke a hole in the floor of the docks.”

Luke: “Yes, and because of that hole, unloading cargo became more dangerous.”

But there are many more things left to do.

Tomorrow, I will make preparations to the wood supply and then the docks will have to wait until the afternoon.

Eri: “Sir Luke. Have you spoken to my father about your request for more craftsmen?” Luke: “No, I was considering asking Prince Eriol.”

If we send a letter on a carrion pigeon, it will fly straight to the castle.

In order to set a Magecraft Communication Device, a Mage would have to pour power into a Magic Stone, and apparently, it’s not that easy to do.

I was going to write a letter to the Prince to ask him for support but…..

Eri: “Then would you like for me to write a letter to my father? I’m certain that he would be sending resources much quicker that way.”

Luke: “That is true. If it is a request from Princess Aires, His Majesty would probably respond immediately. Could I ask you to do so then?” Eri: “Yes, of course. Leave it to me.”

The Princess wrote the letter before the end of the day.

And the next day, just as planned, we prepared the wood supplies for the carpenters. In the afternoon, we adjusted the height of the docks and completed it.

The route from the former Pirate’s base to the town was made by Gonzo as he pulled the trees out of the ground. Boss then used his Earth Type Magic to flatten the ground.

In only a few days, we completed the 2nd road to the town.

And a half month laterーー

The few residents of the islandーーwell, compared to when it was just Sia and I, it’s a lot more peopleーーall stood on the pier and waved our hands towards the sea.

With reinforcements from the Tronstad Kingdom, we waved towards the ship carrying the army of carpenters and craftsmen.
