277 The difference between two numbers
Whilst reading cultivation novels, you will eventually realize that power scaling is almost always quite wierd. In a way cultivation realms can be compared to numbers. The difference between 1 and 2 is very small, differentiating by the smallest amount possible for two different whole numbers. However 2 and 3 are also just 1 apart, but that is just an increase of 50% whilst 2 is twice as much as 1.
A cultivator with a power level of 2 would decimate one with a power level of 1. Theoretically you should thus be able to compare the difference of 1 million and 2 million to the difference of 1 and 2. But, the difference of 1 million is nevertheless much larger than the difference of 1 and thus much harder to overcome.
It thus also becomes really hard to imagine how strong a protagonist is. It doesn't matter if the protagonist has a power lever of 1,000,000 or 100,000,000, he/she would still be almost infinitely times as strong as a normal human.
In the same sense, 100,000,000 people with a power level of 1 wouldn't even be able to touch a person with a power level of 100,000. Even someone with a power level of 1,000 would be unkillable and would thus be able to win eventually.
But somehow, the protagonist always seems to find tougher opponents that are way stronger than whatever was just defeated. After each "boss battle," there is a massive jump in what is known as the current power cap. Since I'm already at it I just going to mention how protagonists are almost always regarded as the good guys although they've probably killed way more than anyone else their age.
