The Polaris is known as the North Star, since it can be used to find the direction north. It's position stays constant and can thus be used as a means of orientation in an emergency.

It's basically the sky's North Pole and the sky rotates around it. The error margin is around 0.75?? since that's how far it is offset from celestial north (the true north point).
