Oranges are often green in areas like South Africa. This green color is just caused by plenty of chlorophyll. As foreigners wouldn't accept oranges that aren't orange, they tend to be treated before they are exported. Imported oranges are thus often either exposed to ethylene gas or shocked with cold water in order to remove the chlorophyll.
