Rats can definitely be a problem, but rat poison definitely isn't the correct solution. If you start setting rat poison traps, you'll end up killing way more than just rats. Any animals that happen to eat those rats, such as cats or owls, would definitely be affected and most likely die. There's also the risk that a child gets their hands on that poison.
