has slowly killed off the comment section.

By adding an alternative, paragraph comments, the need to use the actual comment section lessened. Eventually they even stopped showing the top three comments at the bottom of every chapter, so you'd actually have to go out of your way to see the comments.

So unless it's the newest chapter of a book, the likelihood that someone will check the comment section is very very low.
