From the perspective of evolution, being able to hold your breath, for a long time, is a huge advantage. Sadly, humans are nowhere near the best in that regard. Even animals such as scorpions can hold their breathes for over 6 days, some even being to to go for 17 days.

So for the next time you go diving, just remember, there might be scorpions in the water.
