You Are My Favorite Sin
Chapter 19:Dila’s Tears
The sound of the smartphone ringing annoyed Dian.
Who is calling in the middle of the night, don't they know that the person might be sleeping or not. Dian's heart struggled.
Dian let go of Egi and picked up the phone.
"Hello," Dian said without seeing the caller ID.
"Hmmm my fierce assistant," Bara said on the phone.
"Eh, sorry boss," Dian said while closing her mouth. "Boss calls in the middle of the night like this and uses a foreign number again. How do I know."
Hearing Dian called Bara, Egi shouted for help, but before he could scream, Dian hit Egi with her left hand and the man immediately fainted. Dian stuck out his tongue to mock Egi.
"Isn't my cellphone at yours? That's why I'm calling using another number."
"Sorry I forgot, my boss. Forgive my decreased memory," said Dian with a chuckle.
"You can slip," said Bara, smiling a little. "I went straight to Dila's house. You can hold my phone. I don't want my mom and dad to suspect if I'm not at home at my reception night."
"Okay boss. Be careful. Take care of your health. Tonight there will be a pick-up of the sumandos at Dila's house. Have a good first night," Dian sneered.
"Hmmm. Don't start Dian." Bara warned Dian.
"Just Kidding, boss. Don't get emotional easily, the boss will get old quickly. My boss is sleepy." Dian yawned.
"Alright. I'll turn off the call."
"When can I sleep? I have to take care of this virus first," Dian squeaked, pretending to cry.
????????????
After the reception, Dila just locked herself in her room. Dila still did not think that she had married Aldebaran.
Marrying Bara was not what she wanted. Dila just got married only to make her father and mother happy.
Remembering Naura's words made Dila regret her decision even more. Because she wanted to be a devoted child, Dila sacrificed her feelings and future. Pity her father and mother who felt sick hearing questions from neighbors and extended family when will Dila get married?
When will you get married? Maybe a simple sentence but it made her feel bored and broke the relationship.
If time could be repeated, maybe Dila would reveal what was in her heart if she wanted to be matched with Fatih.
Fatih was Dila's senior when she was in elementary, middle school and high school. Dila and Fatih always went to the same school because Dila's father paid for Fatih's school.
Fatih came from an underprivileged family but he had a smart brain. Besides that, both Fatih's parents work at Dila's family's house as a driver and household member.
Little Fatih spent a lot of childhood time with Dila and Iqbal.
Since Fatih went to college and worked, his parents stopped working at Dila's family's house to take care of the rice fields in Solok. Alhamdulilah, Fatih had the fortune to buy several plots of rice fields and asked his parents to plant rice and cultivate other staple crops.
Secretly Dila and Fatih admire each other.
Dila was amazed by Fatih's cleverness and skill while Fatih admired Dila for not being arrogant, willing to make friends with anyone, and not spoiled like other employers' children.
There was someone knocked on the door from outside. Dila immediately got up from the bed and walked towards the door.
When the door was opened, Iqbal's figure appeared in front of Dila.
"Iqbal," called Dila flatly.
"Can I come in?" Iqbal asked sadly.
"Go ahead." Dila opened the door to her room wide.
Iqbal closed the room door and locked it.
"Why did you close the door?" Dila asked curiously.
Usually, when Iqbal talked to her in the room the door was always wide open. In the Minang tradition, even though you were siblings, if you were adults and married, you must maintain the limits of politeness.
"I want to have a serious talk with Dila," Iqbal said with a tense and sad face.
"What are you going to talk about?"
Iqbal was silent with teary eyes. He hugged his younger sister and stroked her hair.
"Why did Dila never say it? As a brother, I failed. You should be happy with your choice," Iqbal said while sobbing.
"What do you mean?" Dila did not understand the direction of Iqbal's conversation.
"You love Fatih, don't you? And hoped he'll become your husband?" Iqbal's words trembled and pierced Dila's heart.
Dila's chest felt tight and her heartfelt cramped when she heard Iqbal's words. She never told him about Fatih's problem. How did Iqbal know about Fatih? A million questions hung in Dila's mind.
Dila was silent and her tears seemed to be the answer to Iqbal.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Iqbal asked emphatically.
"If you said from the start about Fatih, I will propose to Fatih for you and will already marry you off. If it's like this, how about him, Dila?"
"How did you know?" Dila asked dryly. She could no longer hold back her sadness and her tears spilled over the river.
"How did I know? It doesn't matter. This is your future, Dila. How can you mess with your life?" Iqbal said while holding Dila's cheeks.
Dila and Iqbal looked at each other. From Dila's eyes, Iqbal could see disappointment, sadness, and pain.
If Iqbal knew from the start that Dila liked Fatih he might be the first to reject Dila's match with Bara.
"Did Naura say the same thing?" Dila asked emotionally.
"Knowing from who is not important. Honestly, I'm very angry with you. Why can't you be honest with us?"
"Dila is afraid that if I say I fall in love with Fatih you will reject him because Fatih is not on the same level as us because he is only the son of our former household member and our driver."
Iqbal held his head which was painless.
"Astagfirullah Dila. Why did you talk like that? Our family is not like that. If you like him and Fatih also likes you, we will marry you off. Our family never looks at social status. Have you ever seen your father and mother treat Etek Halimah and Mr. Hendra like a maid? No, Dila! Father and mother even consider them brothers. Why are you that stupid?"
"It's not like that. There are many examples. Employers' children and household members can never be the same because of social status. I don't want Fatih to get insulted and ridiculed by our extended family."
"How could you value our family like that Dil. Our family never looks at social status. Remember to choose a partner who is seen first. RELIGION, not SOCIAL STATUS. If your religion is good, God willing, your household will be happy in the world and the hereafter. Fatih is a pious man, knowledgeable. and polite. He is like Fahri in the real world. It is an honor to be his brother-in-law. You bless you if from the beginning Dila tells the same story. You like Fatih. There is no man like him in this world. He is handsome, polite, and smart. He always establishes the five daily prayers. Remember to do the morning prayers make us rich because the world and everything in it belong to us. That is the true nature of riches Dila. "
Dila's cries grew louder and she sat on the floor. Her throat was dry and her tongue felt stiff to speak. Dila had no more words to say to Iqbal. It was too late for her and Fatih. If there was a little courage in Dila to convey her heart out maybe she would be happy and married to Fatih.
"If father and mother knew from the start, maybe they would be very happy. Mother once said that she wanted to have a son-in-law like Fatih."
Dila seemed unable to breathe listening to Iqbal's words. O Allah, why did fate not side with me and Fatih? Dila's heart was crying sadly.
Iqbal helped Dila stand up and invited her sister to sit on Dila's bridal bed. Iqbal lovingly wiped Dila's tears.
"Dil. Our birth, soul mate, and death have been determined by Allah. Maybe Fatih is not your soul mate. A mate that Allah gave you. Marrying is only once in a lifetime. Learn to be a good wife for Bara. He is your husband now. Remember Allah gives what we need not gives us what we want. Now you don't love him but over time you will love each other. Dating after marriage is more beautiful. Take care of your heart and feelings only for Bara. Even though it is hard but be sure you can live it. At least I have already given you advice. Let time speak to the future between you and Bara. "
Dila cried in Iqbal's arms. She spilled all her feelings on her brother. Only this time Dila was able to share her feelings with her brother because Iqbal was too busy taking care of his two wives who sometimes quarreled over trivial matters.
"Dila if I may know if Fatih also loves you?"
"He never said he loved me. Fatih only said. I will merit myself for you and I will immediately propose to you. Wait for me Dila. That's what Fatih said when he said goodbye to Egypt."
Iqbal's voice choked to hear Dila's words. Fatih was serious about his younger sister. Fatih felt insecure about his social status and he wanted to be SOMETHING to dare to propose to Dila.
