Wan Yi stayed for more than an hour before deciding to leave. When she got up, she hugged Su Yan and whispered: “Xiao Yan, I know it hasn’t been easy for you. You must have been sad to be unable to marry the one you liked. I don’t know how to help you, but I truly wish for you to be happier than anyone else. Whether you are Mrs. Jiang or Mrs. Shen, I will support you.”

Su Yan strongly hugged her back, her voice betraying her emotions, “En. Thank you.”

Yes, she would be happy.

She would live the life she desired.

Su Yan instructed Auntie Wang: “Please tell the driver to escort my friend to the company.”

Wan Yi sighed with emotion upon sitting in the Jiang Family car. Su Yan used to be a little cold, a bit ignorant, and slightly willful. Now she was showing consideration regarding such small details. This was growing up to become sensible, right? Wan Yi looked outside the window while thinking in her heart: Xiao Yan must be happy.

When it was almost 5 o’clock, Su Yan sat in the car to go to the Ancestral Jiang Mansion. Auntie Wang, however, did not forget her task and quickly told the driver to pull over when they passed by a supermarket. She took Su Yan with her to buy the candy.

This was the first time Su Yan had come to a supermarket, so she didn’t dare to fall back even a step and closely followed by Auntie Wang’s side. There weren’t many people in the supermarket, but Su Yan’s appearance still drew many stares. Su Yan purchased every flavour of Wang Zi candy. At the time of checkout, the cashier was shocked.

Tangerine, blueberry, pineapple…

Su Yan didn’t have confidence in any one flavour; it was difficult to know which flavour Jiang Jingchuan liked.

Auntie Wang safely stored the candies.

When Su Yan arrived at the Ancestral Jiang Mansion, Father Jiang and Mother Jiang weren’t at home. Only the two grandparents were there. When they saw Su Yan, their eyes narrowed in happiness.

They called out the kitchen staff and instructed them to prepare Su Yan’s favourite vegetables as well as her favourite dim sums and desserts at once.

Venerable Madame Jiang took Su Yan’s hand and refused to let it go, “Look at you, you look so thin. You should come here more to eat, okay?”

Su Yan was very puzzled. This Venerable Madame didn’t order the kitchen staff to prepare her grandson’s favourite dishes? It was completely abnormal.

“Xiao Yan must be tired from running around between here and there every day. Since it is so, let Sister1Chen go with you every time. Xiao Yan loves the dishes she prepares.” Venerable Sir Jiang’s warmth was no less than Venerable Madame’s and actually went so far as to immediately make the Chef of the Ancestral Jiang Mansion attend Su Yan.

Auntie Wang’s whole face became filled with smiles after hearing that. She knew that Madam was most favoured by the two elderly people, and now even the Sir was most fond of her. How much more comfortable would her life be if she gave birth to a child? As a person who looked after Madam, she was practically glowing.

Su Yan, however, was perturbed by the strange behaviour of these elderly people.

As the kitchen staff prepared dinner, Su Yan followed Venerable Madame Jiang to her room. With a smile, Venerable Madame Jiang took out a heavy jewel case from inside a beautiful antique cupboard and handed it to Su Yan. Her face was full of love as she spoke, “Although when you married you had your own collection of jewellery, I always felt it wasn’t enough. This was what my mother gave me. Now I can’t use it. Do you like it?”

Su Yan’s first response was to refuse but after seeing the warm expression in Venerable Madame’s eyes, she was unable to speak the words to politely decline. She opened the jewel case very carefully. What kind of jewellery had she not seen while in the Imperial Harem? With one look at the Venerable Madame’s jewellery collection, she knew it was very fine. It was completely different from the diamond necklace she wore to the dinner party yesterday.  This was purely and solely filled with feelings.

“Grandmother, I cannot ask for this…” From where would she be brave enough to ask for this? With a single look, she knew it was passed down from generation to generation.

Venerable Madame Jiang smiled at this. Even though many years had passed and time left its traces on her face but when one looked at her one could see how she must have looked when she was young. Beautiful. Even if aged, it was a delightful sort of beauty. “Xiao Yan, take it, this is for you. As long as grandma has it, if you want it, grandma will give it to you.”

Su Yan didn’t know how to answer that. Facing Venerable Madame Jiang who loved her dearly, Su Yan, who was accustomed to the schemes and intrigues of the Imperial Harem, was at a loss. How can Venerable Madame Jiang be so fond of the original body?

Seeing Su Yan’s hesitation, Venerable Madame laughed happily, “I don’t know how happy you are to be married into the Jiang Family. Xiao Yan, this marriage was facilitated by grandpa and grandma, so we are also responsible for your happiness. Looking at the good feelings between you and Xiao Chuan, I can set my mind at ease that Xiao Chuan is a person worthy of being entrusted to.”

Venerable Madame had said these words last time too, if Su Yan was surprised at that time, she felt stupefied now.

Normally speaking, as a grandma, should not she be more concerned about her grandson? She felt that no matter of it was Venerable Madame Jiang or Venerable Sir Jiang, they seemed to spoil her more? How could that be?

“Actually, previously we were hesitating, not knowing whether or not Xiao Chuan is a suitable person. From childhood, I saw him grow up. His character is trustworthy. If you and he got married then he would surely take care of you for the rest of your life.” The love which can be seen from the way Venerable Madame Jiang looked at Su Yan, wasn’t fake.

Su Yan was dumbfounded. Somehow she felt strange hearing those words. This was as if the elderly parents chose Jiang Jingchuan for her, instead of choosing a granddaughter-in-law for their grandson. What did this mean? Why did it seem even odder?

Even though it seemed that she held the elderly parents’ thighs firmly now, Su Yan still couldn’t make any sense of it.

On the other side, Father Jiang and Mother Jiang were driving on route to home. Mother Jiang knew that her parents-in-law doted on her daughter-in-law, although somewhat bewildered, she wasn’t angry, only full of curiosity: “Why do mom and dad treat Xiao Yan so well? Even better than me.”

Even though Mother Jiang was a middle-aged lady, she had taken good care of herself, but speaking those words right now sounded the same as a girl asking coquettishly. This made Father Jiang unable to stop himself from laughing, “Are you jealous?”

“Go on, you know I don’t mean that.” Mother Jiang couldn’t be jealous of her son’s wife; she was just completely bemused, that’s all.

Father Jiang’s face still had a slight smile, he didn’t answer Mother Jiang’s question directly, “Don’t ask, it’s a good thing that mom and dad like Xiao Yan.”

Seeing her husband unwilling to answer, Mother Jiang did not inquire further, just softly smiled, “It is a good thing. ”
