2. Back to Planet Marka

Mu Yunshen walked out of the space station with a simple bag. Outside, there were quite a number of taxis waiting, and the chauffeurs all stood near their cars, looking for customers.

Planet Marka was not a big and prosperous planet, but a most ordinary Tier-D one in the empire. It was far from the Capital Star, at the borders of Nebular Empire. The planet was not big, and the total population was just several hundred million. In an empire with over ten billion people, several hundred million was relatively small.

Mu Yunshen grew up here. He didn’t leave until he was 14 years old when he was recruited as a rookie and taken away by the Rosebush Unit. Four years had passed and here he was again.

The normal age for recruiting was 16 years old, but there were also special cases. When encountering a rare talent, the Rosebush Unit could recruit underage rookies as an exception. Mu Yunshen was one such exception. He was among the very few people whose physical fitness reached Level S. With that, as long as his hand could reach the standard speed, he could have become a mecha soldier in the future.

It was a great honor. When he left his hometown, he was full of expectations, convinced that he would eventually become an excellent mecha soldier. However, everything was as transient as a fleeting cloud.

Thinking about that his mother had asked him when he could come back recently, his answer was that he still didn’t know and it depended on the arrangement of the Unit.

He was just a soldier who didn’t have a say in his future, whether to stay in the Unit to continue his service or to be sent to other garrisons.

No matter what he wanted, he did not expect to retire so soon.

The Rosebush Unit, where he belonged to, was the Field Army of the empire, instead of the Imperial Army. Imperial Army had a period of service prescribed by law. Once the time was up, one needed to pass the assessment if one wanted to stay in the team. Otherwise, one could apply for a transfer.

However, Field Army was different. As long as one chose to enter Field Army, it was equivalent to becoming the “private army”. Unless one committed a mistake, or suffered from disability, illness, met an age limit, or submitted an application to transfer, he would not retire for no reason.

Even in the Imperial Army, the shortest service lasted for six years. However, Mu Yunshen only served four years in Rosebush Unit. Not long ago, a group of retired old men were settled, and Mu Yunshen’s name also appeared on the list among their names.

Therefore, he became the youngest Field Army veteran.

Mu Yunshen knew the reason. He had made a mistake, so he was forced to retire from the Rosebush Unit. Naturally, he would not receive any arrangements from the Unit, so he could only go back to his hometown to seek development.

Mu Yunshen’s family still didn’t know that he was back. Besides, he still didn’t know how to explain this to them.

Mu Yunshen walked to a taxi. The driver saw him and rushed to greet him.

“Sir, where are you going? I can give you a lift. I’ll offer you the best price. On Planet Marka we are all honest and good citizens. We definitely won’t ask for a sky-high price. Take my car and don’t worry,” the driver said with a smile on his face as he made the pitch.

“I’m going to No. 35, Rocktown.” Mu Yunshen said the address.

“Alright, send you over immediately,” the driver answered instantly.

Just as Mu Yunshen was about to get into the car, he asked again, “How much is the fare?”

The driver smiled honestly but his eyes were sly. “200 star coins.”

Mu Yunshen paused and turned around. “This is so expensive.”

“Sir, you don’t know about the market here. Although our planet is only a Tier-D one, it has tourist attractions. Naturally, the price will be higher. What I asked for is absolutely fair. Any other taxi driver will ask for the same price…”

Mu Yunshen said, “I’m a local. You don’t have to fool me.”

He wore a casual sports outfit with a crew cut. Fair skin, prominent features and a slender body. He was very handsome, looked young and brimming with youthful radiance, plus a simple travel bag in his hand.

The first time the driver saw him, he thought Mu Yunshen was a big star who came here alone for travel, so he wanted to overcharge him.

The driver measured the handsome young man in front of him and wondered how much truth he had in his words. When his eyes finally met Mu Yunshen’s, he felt a lump in his throat and suddenly felt guilty.

That pair of eyes were so powerful, sharp, and cold. It was easy to see that this young man wasn’t someone he could afford to provoke. ‘Look at his posture, as straight as a pine tree. It’s nothing like a big star. Perhaps this is a military officer who’s visiting his family.’

Looking at the driver’s eyes, Mu Yunshen knew what he was thinking. “On my previous trips, I only paid 50 star coins for the drive to my house. So, I’ll give you 50. Let’s go.”

‘Damn, he does know the market here. Sure enough, he’s a local. He’s not messing with me.’

Thinking of his own speculation, the driver immediately managed a flattering smile. “I’m afraid that can’t work. Now the price is rising so quickly, it’s a losing deal for me. Please, this price definitely won’t work.”

The driver was an old fox. Mu Yunshen spent a long time bargaining with him before reaching a deal of 80 star coins.

Mu Yunshen’s other luggage was all consigned for shipment. He only brought some daily necessities with him and came back first. The consigned luggage would take a while to arrive.

In the taxi, Mu Yunshen held the communicator. After consideration, he dialed his father’s number to tell his father he was home.

The communicator rang for a long time before the call was finally picked up on the other side. Mu Chifeng didn’t look at the name on the screen and asked, “Hey, who is it?”

Mu Yunshen was stunned for a moment. His father, a good-tempered man, sounded aggressive and anxious, which was rare.

“Dad, it’s me,” Mu Yunshen said.

The person on the other side paused, a little surprised. “Shenshen? How do you manage to call me… Hey, you get out!… Shenshen, I have to take care of something. I’ll call you back.”

Mu Yunshen held the communicator and looked at the screen as the call was ended. He frowned. During the call, it was very noisy on his father’s side with sounds of something being smashed. It was chaos.

Something might have happened to his father. Mu Yunshen told the driver, “Mister, please hurry up.”

The driver glanced at Mu Yunshen from the rearview mirror. “Sir, it’s too dangerous to go faster.”

“I’ll give 100 more star coins. Hurry up!” Mu Yunshen said without wasting his breath and tempted the driver with money.

“Alright, sit tight,” the driver answered cheerfully, then he drove the cab towards Rocktown like he was flying a spaceship.

When Mu Yunshen got out of the taxi, it took him a while to stand still. Having paid the money, he ran to vomit without saying a word.

This was crazy. At first, he thought he had nausea because he was in a spaceship. It never occurred to him that he would get carsick, too. This was something he had never experienced before.

After he finished vomiting, he looked up and saw a crowd gathered at the entrance of the factory in front of him, shouting loudly and pointing fingers.

Mu Yunshen took out a bottle of water from his bag, washed his mouth, took a few more sips, and then walked towards the factory entrance after he felt a bit better.
