Chapter 34:Turned over
At the police station, the policemen got straight to work. They put Min and the 3 men in separate interrogation rooms. A policeman entered each of the rooms except Min's. They decided a female may be more comforting and less intimidating since she was a teen. And so, the questioning begun.
"So, your full name is Min So?" The lady officer asked, in her left hand was a clipboard made out of cork material and her right hand held a pen. Min nodded, she looked down and refused to look at the police lady straight in the eye. She was frustrated and embarrassed at the same time, she was sure they were going to call her parents and she was going to get in trouble.
"Okay, I'm now going to ask you a series of questions. I hope you cooperate and reply truthfully as it would help us determine whether you are guilty or wrongly accused," the lady started. Her tone of voice was soft and delicate, as if she was singing a lullaby to a baby instead of interrogating a suspect. "I'll try," Min replied. The lady smiled and said, "Thank you." That was when Min dared to look up at the lady. She had thought the officers would be rough and not be this lenient with her so she was very much surprised.
"First thing's first, we have no choice but to call your parents... could you give me their names and numbers?"
Min wanted to lie and give a fake number, but she was looking at the officer directly in the eyes and there was no way she could say no. She slowly nodded and starting to recite their numbers, accompanied by their names.
The officer got up and said, "Now I'm gonna have to step out for a little bit. Stay here, yea?" Min almost let out a chuckle when she heard that. How was she even supposed to leave? She heard the lady leave and lock the door behind her.
After contacting Min's shook parents, the lady officer returned and continued to question Min. Meanwhile, they had cleaned up Renae's minor wounds and let her rest. They had to question her and Matthew too, but they wanted them to rest before doing so.
Soon enough, Min's parents came rushing into the police station with serious and worried looks on their faces. They had yet to know that the victim of this incident wan't their beloved daughter, but instead her enemy.
"Is Min alright?" It was the first thing the couple said when a policeman approached them. "Yes, she's not injured at all. Please follow me, I'll explain the situation to you guys. Please don't be too upset," the policeman said, leading them into the inner area of the police station.
The two followed suit without uttering a word. They were a little confused. They thought for sure that the victim was their daughter. How could their daughter ever do something wrong? Sure, she got a car to trail after someone and the other party could've pressed charges but didn't. However, they were still sure their daughter wouldn't have done anything worse than that. They were blinded from the facade their daughter had been putting up this whole time.
"So, we were called at around 4 today and informed by a person which we are familiar with, Kaiden, about an abduction involving two of his friends, Renae and Matthew, Min and a few helping men. He explained that he thinks the guilty party were planning to use Renae to blackmail Matthew and called him to go to the location they had sent him. The other party had called to tell him this and Kaiden had overheard the conversation. We reached there a little after Matthew did and caught Min trying to hit Renae with a small piece of glass. Luckily, Kaiden had stopped her in time before anyone had gotten injured..."
"...Not only that, we were told that Min had hired someone to trail after Renae and Matthew some time this year and uploaded fake news onto the internet. The victim can place charges on Min for both of those actions, but I'm still unsure if she has the desire to as she is resting at the moment and we have not spoken to her about this yet," the policeman explained.
By the time he finished, Min's parents gaped and their eyes were equally as big. "Our Min... she did that? Are you kidding me? She kidnapped and attempted to blackmail someone?!" Uncle Johnson was practically yelling at this point. He was furious and stunned at the same time.
"Did I raise her this badly?" He added on, even though he was hardly ever the one to take care of her. It was mostly Auntie Tiana's fault for having spoiled her so badly and let her do whatever she wanted and even supported her when it was obvious what she wanted to do was wrong.
"Would you... like to see your daughter?" The policeman asked. "Yes, definitely! She needs a good scolding for what she has done. How could she do something so, so terrible?" Uncle Johnson scoffed. The policeman nodded and left the room for a bit before returning with Min shamefully following behind him. "Take a seat," he said, pointing to the chair. "I'll give you guys some privacy," he said before taking his leave.
Min took her time to sit down and hung her head low without saying anything. She tried to prepare herself for their scolding, but she waited for quite some time and they didn't say anything. Instead, she heard silent sniffs after some time. Her head shot up and her expression turned guilty when she saw her dad shedding tears.
"Min... who are you? You've changed so drastically since you were a little girl. When you a little girl, you once said you wished that you could wipe out all the bad people in the world so we could all be happy, do you know that?" He said between sniffs.
Seeing and hearing her dad cry, she couldn't hold back the tears either. She nodded and replied, "I know... I remember. Mum, dad... I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. I didn't know it was so serious, I thought it was still part of her and I being "enemies"... I kept on thinking that if she was in my spot she would do the same to get the guy she liked to turn his attention to her and stay together, but only now do I realise how wrong I was. She's the complete opposite. She... would never do something like that. She would despise someone for doing something like that instead. I've never felt so sorry for myself before... I understand what I've done wrong, and I'm willing to pay the price for what I've done," Min said, her eyes were full of sincerity as she looked her parents.
Uncle Johnson's tears begun to stop. The girl he saw before Min, was completely different from the Min he locked up the night before, or the Min he scolded before that. She had turned over a new leaf, and she was reborn.
"Min... You don't know how happy I am to hear those words come out of your mouth... Don't worry, you... you've known what you done wrong, so I'll try my very best to pay off your punishment. I can't stand seeing you in jail either," he said. He was blaming Auntie Tiana for spoiling Min before, but... wasn't he doing something similar right then?
Min nodded. She hadn't thought about how life in jail would be like, and when she did, she shuddered.
Their conversation ended and they called the policeman back in.
"Alright, so I'm going to tell you the punishment for abduction and attempt of blackmailing. It's either death penalty or 10 years in prison plus canning. Which do you choose? You may take your time to discuss this since it is very serious punishment," the policeman said.
Hearing this, all their jaws dropped. "D-D-Death penalty....?! TEN YEARS in PRISON with CANNING?!" Min exclaimed in her choked up voice. "Yes, I'm afraid..." The policeman felt a little sorry as he said that. "You know what, dad? Maybe the death penalty will be much more fun and less painful compared to TEN YEARS in PRISON. I should end my life before it turns miserable," Min said, her eyes turned completely blank as she said that.
"HAH? What are you saying? Are you hearing yourself? If you die now, I'll be devastated. I pick option 3, getting a lawyer and trying to pay off the punishment. We'll see the other party in court instead," Uncle Johnson said. The policeman nodded, "Alright, I'll inform the other party and the other policemen. Anything to ask?" They all shook their heads and Min's parents were escorted out of the police station while Min had to stay there until court day.
"So, your full name is Min So?" The lady officer asked, in her left hand was a clipboard made out of cork material and her right hand held a pen.
