Homecoming from Hogwarts
Chapter 1015 Bringing humiliation to oneself
When Dolores Umbridge and Lucius Malfoy walked into the hall, the originally noisy hall suddenly became quiet.
All the little wizards followed the arrogant Umbridge's eyes, and some little wizards whose parents worked in the Ministry of Magic looked vaguely uneasy.
This was not the first time Harry had met Dolores Umbridge, and he was not unaware of why Umbridge came to Hogwarts, but he still gritted his teeth and said,
"What is she here for?"
"Is that even necessary?"
Hermione's face turned blue and she responded angrily, then she looked at the Slytherin table to see what Draco Malfoy's attitude was about her father coming to Hogwarts with a senior official from the Ministry of Magic.
What surprised Hermione was that Draco's pale face not only did not show any joy, but was also mixed with deep uneasiness and some panic.
At the faculty table, all the professors left their seats and stood up, looking at Umbridge coldly, some even failing to conceal their hostility. Dumbledore and Amosta remained relatively calm.
"I'm coming, Dumbledore, Blaine -"
Finally, Umbridge stood in front of the faculty table. She raised her somewhat ferocious face decorated with a smug smile, and her sharp voice echoed back and forth in the hall where you could hear a pin drop.
It was time for a showdown, and Umbridge did not try to hide her delight.
"Even though you tried everything to stop me from going to Hogwarts, Dumbledore, and Blaine, I'm here anyway."
Malfoy tried hard to convince himself that the current situation was all in plan, but he was still sweating profusely as he was within Brian's sight. He had already mourned for Umbridge in his heart for her arrogant remarks.
"Hogwarts never rejects people with good intentions, Madam Umbridge -"
Dumbledore looked at Umbridge calmly and solemnly.
"Unless that person has bad intentions."
Amosta glanced at Dumbledore in surprise - the first half of Dumbledore's speech was in his style, but the second half was sharper than usual. It seemed that Dumbledore was extremely annoyed by the Ministry of Magic's persistence.
"Whatever you say, Dumbledore."
Since the two sides had already reached the point of tearing each other apart, Umbridge was too lazy to pretend to respect the greatest wizard in the contemporary wizarding world. She laughed contemptuously.
"The Ministry of Magic is the winner in the end. Oh. I have to tell some people who are still fantasizing or confused here--"
Umbridge cast a playful look at Professor McGonagall, who was glaring at her.
"Any attempt to defy the Minister of Magic and the magical order will ultimately end in ignominious defeat!"
"Hogwarts does not seek to fight the Ministry of Magic, Madam Umbridge. We simply seek to tell people the truth, the truth that the current Ministry lacks the courage to face."
Dumbledore still spoke calmly. He glanced at the end of the Gryffindor table calmly. Harry's angry face made him feel a little scared.
"I don't think we should disturb the children's meal because of some trivial conflict of ideas, Madam Umbridge. If you like, we can go to my office to discuss it. I believe you have brought some instructions from the Ministry."
"Oh, not from the Ministry, from the Hogwarts Board of Governors -"
Umbridge said with a smile,
"Why go to your office, Dumbledore? This seems to me to be a most wonderful occasion."
Umbridge turned around and looked triumphantly at the mostly resistant faces at the four long tables. Some children shrank back and lowered their heads the moment their eyes met hers.
"The students are all here and I just happen to have something to do. Oh, mainly to expose some lies for them."
Dumbledore's face finally darkened and his eyes turned cold.
He didn't care about his image of authority being damaged, but Umbridge was clearly trying to cover up the truth with lies, and in front of the students.
"Oh, haha, you want to talk here?"
Amosta finally spoke. His chuckle fell into Lucius' ears, which made his heart skip a beat. He subconsciously took two steps away from Umbridge.
"If you're embarrassed, Brian—"
Umbridge raised her brows and smiled pleasantly, but she was interrupted before she could finish her words.
"You just said that you brought an order from the school board, so please go ahead--"
Amosta smiled quietly.
Seeing his expression, the anger on the faces of the professors at the faculty table eased a lot. Everyone who was familiar with Amosita knew his style. This senior deputy minister of the Ministry of Magic was probably in trouble.
"What could it be?" Ron, whose face turned pale at the tense and confrontational atmosphere in the auditorium, asked with a smile.
"What else?"
Hermione said harshly, glaring at Umbridge in disgust.
"Oh, hehe, are you playing dumb, Blaine?"
Umbridge covered her mouth and laughed.
"Or are you afraid to face your own failure?"
She pulled a piece of parchment from her pocket and unfolded it in front of Dumbledore and Amosta.
"This is the appointment letter from the school board. Dumbledore, Blaine, and more than two-thirds of the board members have signed it."
Umbridge looked up at him, her heavy eye bags quivering with laughter.
"I have been appointed as the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!"
"Oh, what a pity—"
George Weasley's unrestrained voice caused a burst of suppressed laughter.
"This course has never appeared, and the professor was fired before he even took office."
Umbridge, who was shaking the appointment letter as if showing off, froze in her face. She turned her head and glared fiercely in the direction where the voice came from, but George straightened his chest and looked at Umbridge fearlessly.
To be honest, Amosita had not originally planned to do this. He had originally intended to use legitimate reasons to directly reject this appointment that was arranged by him, forcing the Ministry of Magic and the Board of Directors to go to extremes.
But seeing the arrogant and stupid woman in front of him, a hint of sneer flashed in Amosta's lavender eyes.
"I'm afraid you're not qualified to be my colleague, Umbridge -"
Amosta's stern voice startled Umbridge, but she came to her senses and smiled even more fiercely.
"You have no right to refuse, Brian. The board of directors has issued the appointment letter. Hogwarts must follow the orders of the board of directors. Moreover, I think you may have forgotten, Brian--"
Umbridge said sharply,
"You entered Hogwarts and became an investigator of the Chamber of Secrets because you received the appointment letter from the school board!"
"Oh, of course I won't forget--"
Amosta smiled leisurely, he looked at Dumbledore,
"But becoming an inquisitor at Hogwarts requires more than just a letter of appointment from the board of directors. You are still missing a set of formalities, Ms. Umbridge -"
"What is it?"
Umbridge glanced at Lucius, but the latter lowered his head and looked at his toes, not responding to her questioning gaze at all.
Umbridge asked with a frown, realizing something was wrong.
"You still need to pass my interview, Ms. Umbridge -"
Dumbledore stared at Umbridge coldly.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Umbridge. Although you may be professional enough to serve the Minister of Magic, I don't think you have the ability to teach young wizards."
Umbridge frowned, and was about to argue, but on the other side, seeing that the pit had been dug, Amosta smiled deeply and said,
"Unless you prove to us that you have the ability to teach young wizards, a letter of appointment alone will not help you get the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor."
"We all passed the principal's interview."
Professor McGonagall provided assistance with a cold remark, and her words triggered a series of statements from professors at the faculty table.
Unconsciously, the offense and defense changed, and Umbridge was forced to ask,
"How can I prove it?"
“Oh, haha--”
There was a hint of amusement in Amosta's smile. His eyes wandered around the auditorium, and his soft words excited Harry, who was already furious.
"If you want to teach students, at the very least, you have to prove that you are more professional than the students, right, Ms. Umbridge?" (End of this chapter)
