Chapter 19 A Quiet Visit
The hall on the first floor of the villa.

Russell and his small team gathered here to start today's dinner.

On the round table, a total of three people gathered here including him.

Next to the table was a bed on which Romero was on a drip. He was in a coma and hadn't woken up yet.

That's his team, plus Romero and his small team of four.

Romero, a former Marine Corps veteran and former WHO volunteer, is the deputy captain of the small team fighting human trafficking and is also in charge of the armed forces.

Martha, a former WHO volunteer and former chief professor of St. Peter's School of Medicine, is the medical leader of this team.

John, the former top member of the Hacking League, is the network leader of the team.

And finally, himself.

Russell, a former Cambridge University professor and former WHO volunteer, is the founder and captain of this team.

Everyone is an elite among human beings, and they have all struggled for lofty ideals for many years.

But now, this group of elites is gathering at the round table, eating dinner without bite, and everyone's minds are completely free.

Romero, who was badly injured, has just recovered and just needs to rest for a long time.

Therefore, the minds of the three people at the round table will inevitably think about the transcendence that they had no time to think about before.

The world doesn't seem to be what they knew it to be.

Everything suddenly became strange.

"Romero's arm, how is it now?" Russell asked suddenly, breaking the silence among several people.

Looking at the comatose Romero, he started with Romero's situation as the topic, and deliberately avoided the extraordinary that everyone had been thinking about.

"Apart from John, is there anyone in this team who knows how to do medicine?" Martha raised her head and gave Russell a blank look. "Although Romero was rescued, you know what will happen in the future."

Hearing this, Russell fell silent.

Indeed, he, Romero and Martha were both volunteers of the WHO.

Although his and Romero's medical skills are far inferior to Martha's, they are more or less good at it.

He understood that under Martha's treatment, Romero was lucky to be able to recover from blood loss, inflammation and infection.

In the future, the arm pierced by the steel bar will definitely not be able to make big movements often.

The massive muscle tear that comes with an injury of this magnitude is an unavoidable consequence.

"It just so happens that Romero hasn't gone back to see the child for a long time, how about..." John said suddenly, in such a cryptic manner.

Although it was cryptic, Russell understood what John meant.

It was suggested to bring Romero home.

He is no longer suitable to be with them in the future, doing such dangerous things for lofty ideals all year round, it is better to go back and enjoy life.

Russell was lost in thought.

He also wanted the semi-disabled Romero to go back and enjoy life, but he knew that Romero absolutely wanted to persevere.

In front of countless victims who dared not speak out, he and Romero made a firm vow to fight human trafficking for a lifetime.

There was a long silence before waiting for him to say anything.

The doorbell rang suddenly.

The round table of discussion suddenly fell into silence.

The three of them looked at each other, years of bloody life made them all look vigilant.

Various thoughts circulated in the minds of the three of them.

Was it a provoking human trafficking organization that came to the door?Or did they provoke someone because of the extraordinary event they witnessed?

Without waiting to think about it, Russell took out the pistol on his waist and opened the safety.

His eyes signaled that Martha and John were also ready to evacuate at any time.

Seeing this, Martha and John shook their heads, and they all took out their pistols and stood by Romero's bed.

Russell was silent for a while, then walked helplessly to the gate of the villa.

Gently opened the door of the room with a gap, blocking the sight of people outside, and the pistol behind his back was ready to shoot at any time.

But when the door opened, it was a US soldier in camouflage uniform.

Not the members of the human trafficking organization who were supposed to come to revenge, nor the superhuman people who might be supposed to be recruited because they witnessed extraordinary events.

This is just an American soldier.

Russell could even recognize from the military uniform that this was a soldier of Major General Chris's mechanized special operations unit closest to this town.

The soldier was holding a notebook and looking at Russell who opened the door.

"Sorry to interrupt, I need to investigate some issues on behalf of the government."

The American soldier smiled.

Russell frowned, frantically scanning the surrounding environment from the corner of his eyes.

According to the reconnaissance skills and concealment methods taught by Romero, he is sure that he has not seen any ambushes hidden around him, and he will not suddenly jump to his face with hundreds of knives and axes.

On the other hand, at the gates of several families across the street, they saw soldiers also holding notebooks.

Russell quickly glanced at the soldier in front of him again, and based on his micro-expression, he couldn't tell that the soldier was on guard or hostile at all.

He couldn't help being silent for a moment.

Is it really just a survey of all the people?

Not for them?

"gentlemen?"

The soldier looked at Russell who had not responded for a long time, and raised his voice and shouted.

"Well, I'm here. What do you want to ask?"

Although Russell breathed a sigh of relief, he still looked at Da Bing suspiciously.

Taos Town is a small town with a well-developed tourism industry. Except for a police station in the town, there has never been any army stationed in it.

Now suddenly there are soldiers going door to door to investigate...

Could it be that?
"Excuse me, how many people are there in your family? What is the purpose of coming to Taos Town? Where were you from [-]:[-] to [-]:[-] this morning?"

The soldier picked up his pen and went to the notebook, looked at Russell and asked.

"I'm here for a tour, and there are three friends with me. We should all be sleeping in the early hours of this morning."

Russell pretended to think for a few seconds, and then answered as if nothing happened.

But at this moment, his heart has been turned upside down.

really!

Since you asked about the time in the early morning, it must be the US officials who discovered what happened in the manor in the north!
The U.S. officials are also aware of the possible extraordinary power!

At the moment they are investigating!

But with the official ability, it shouldn't be impossible to find some traces of him and Romero there: Romero's blood, their fingerprints, their biological tissue remnants, their footprints...

It shouldn't be like now that they didn't find their abnormality at all, and didn't take any special attitude towards them.

While thinking deeply, Russell was dealing with the questioning of the American soldiers in front of him.

After the soldier finished asking and left, Russell slowly closed the door with a thoughtful expression.

Why... didn't they get involved?
They are investigating extraordinary power, so it is impossible for them to be careless.

Could it be that his anti-reconnaissance capabilities are not good enough, and he didn't realize that the officials were actually spying on them?
The more Russell thought about it, the more entangled he became.

"How about... take the initiative to tell them what I know?"

Russell murmured softly and turned around.

What he saw when he turned his head made him unable to help but widen his eyes.

I saw Martha and John raising their pistols, aiming at a stranger sitting by Romero's bed.
