Zhang Lan said it very simply, that is, one positive and one negative is considered agreement, and two positive and two negative are disagreement. He did not explain the reason and meaning.

The main purpose is to give a suggestion, you can believe it if you want or not.

Zhang Hu thought that the people in the Niangniang Temple might not believe his suggestion, but to his surprise, after Zhang Hu told his friend that this was Zhang Lan's suggestion, and his friend went in and told the people in the Niangniang Temple, the other party started to act according to Zhang Hu's suggestion without much thought.

Zhang Hu didn't quite understand why the other party agreed so readily without even raising any major doubts. His friend explained the reason to him.

This kind of thing is not very common in the mountainous area, but similar legends can be heard every few years.

It happened in this village when Zhang Hu's friend was a child. Two children were climbing a tree. The locust tree they climbed was the locust tree behind the old land temple. After all, the children were climbing a tree and they were villagers. Generally speaking, the land god would not get angry, so there was no problem.

But as luck would have it, they urinated on the tree and onto the roof of the land temple. That night, their penises started to itch and then swell up, and the doctor couldn't tell why.

The next morning, they went to ask a famous fortune teller nearby and found out that it was the God of Land who was causing the trouble. Finally, they took incense and candles as offerings to apologize to the God of Land, and the next day, the two children's penises were healed.

There is also an incident in the village next door, which happened when Zhang Hu's friend was a child. There was a man who had no firewood at home before the New Year. He happened to see a large branch of the locust tree near the land god had dried up. He picked it up without saying a word and looked back.

Later I heard that the tree was cut down on New Year's Eve, and the man died on the sixth day of the New Year. He was still fine, but suddenly he was gone.

According to later analysis, it was a huge sin to pluck the hair of the God of Land during the New Year, so the rest of his life was simply deducted.

I forgot where I heard this story. It was said that during the summer vacation, two children from the city came to play with their relatives in the village. One day, they went to the river for a wild swim. As expected, they still had an accident. It was said that three or four children went into the water. The two from the city were drowned. The two from the countryside were almost drowned, but according to them, when they were about to lose consciousness, they felt someone under the water pushing them to the shore and they were saved.

Afterwards, according to the analysis of the living god in the village, there was a water ghost in that place claiming lives, so the goddess in the temple could only save two children, and he had neither the ability nor the responsibility to save the two from other places.

Zhang Hu's friend's neighbor had a dog. When the neighbor went to the mountains to work, the dog followed him because the mountains were relatively primitive at that time, with weeds everywhere, and it was the first time for the dog to go there.

When the neighbor was working, the dog ran away and no one knew where it went. At first, the neighbor didn't pay much attention to it and thought that the dog went home. But when he got home, the dog was not at home. The next day, the dog didn't come back either.

The next day, the neighbor went to the temple to ask the goddess to help find the dog. But when the neighbor woke up on the third day, he found the collar on the dog's neck stuck in the crack of the stone at the door, and the dog was lying next to it.

Another one is the story of Zhang Hu’s friend himself.

In the past, there was a temple fair in their village on the eighth day of the Lunar New Year. People from several nearby villages would go to the temple to perform various performances, including stilt walking and dancing.

Every time there was a performance, there were huge crowds of people. Zhang Hu's friends, who were four or five years old, of course liked to watch it more.

When Zhang Hu's friend was watching it that year, he suddenly got smart and quickly climbed up the locust tree in the Niangniang Temple, found the most suitable position, which was the very center of the Niangniang Temple, and sat down to watch.

Who knew that before he even sat down, he was seen. Then he heard angry and fearful shouts: XX, hurry up and get off the bus. The queen will not blame you. The child does not understand... After being driven off the bus, it seems that nothing bad happened to Zhang Hu's friend. Later, according to the analysis of the elders, he was so young at the time and he was a villager. The queen would not blame the child.

The village of Zhang Hu's friend later merged the land temple and the goddess temple into one.

In the Taoist pantheon, the God of Land is the lowest-ranking god who manages the native place and is the most basic god.

Although his position is low, he is in charge of both land administration and finance, and can be said to be a combination of "land administration, finance, and good governance". At the same time, Tudigong is the only god who lives in the mortal world, so he is the god that we mortals can most easily contact.

Although the God of Land lives on earth, he can go directly to heaven and has the ability to interfere in the affairs of the underworld. It can be said that although his position is small, he can communicate with the three realms.

In addition, he has been entrenched in a certain area for a long time and is most familiar with the local customs and practices. His influence is also deeply rooted in the local area, so other gods dare not neglect him. When they arrive at a place, they have to give him some face and pay homage to the God of Land first.

In the folks, when breaking ground in the New Year, building a house, or digging a grave in the mountains, one must choose a good day that does not offend the God of Land. During the funeral, money is scattered along the way to lead the way, and during the burial, wine, food, and gold paper are offered in order to guide the soul of the deceased to rest in peace.

The God of Land is in charge of land administration and finance, as well as population and household registration. If people want to continue their family line, they will go to the God of Land temple to worship and pray for the God of Land to give them children and blessings.

If there is a baby, the statue of the land god will be carried around the village during the Spring Festival of the following year to express the joy of the birth of the child and to thank the land god for his blessings.

The God of Land is also in charge of the administration of the underworld. In addition to protecting the peace of the village, he is also under the command of the City God and is in charge of the household registration of the deceased in the village.

After a person dies, the Taoist priests will perform a ritual to pray for the soul of the deceased and go to the local land temple to offer sacrifices, reporting the deceased's name, date of birth and other information in order to ask the land god to guide the deceased.

For example, in the Chaoshan area, there is a custom called "Bao Di Tou". If someone in the family dies, the family must go to the land temple to report the death, let the deceased report to the land god, and the land god will lead him to embark on the path of reincarnation.

The God of Land also has a wife, called the Goddess of Land.

Legend has it that when the Jade Emperor sent the God of Land down to the mortal world, he was full of personal idealism and wanted to achieve great things.

He hoped that everyone in the world could be rich. After hearing this, the Earth Lady went to the Jade Emperor to complain: "This is not okay. There should be rich and poor people in the world. If everyone is rich, no one will be willing to do hard work. Only with differences can we divide the work and cooperate, and give full play to the function of society."

It is said that the gap between the rich and the poor in the world comes from this.

When the God of Land came down to the mortal world, he saw people crying because of the death of their loved ones. He could not help but feel compassion and wanted to revive the dead. However, the Goddess of Land stopped him: "Life and death are the cycle of cause and effect, and cannot be changed casually. If everyone is immortal, wouldn't this world become a world of cannibalism?"

The God of Land had no choice but to give up the idea. Because of these two things, the common people rarely worshipped the Goddess of Land and did not offer sacrifices to her. (End of this chapter)
