Chapter 3 Novice Mission in Progress

Farri was sleeping soundly.

As he breathed, his body absorbed the magic in the air.

If he sleeps for another one or two hundred years, Fari will be a level stronger than he is now.

But the world obviously won't give him that time.

In the village at the foot of the mountain, an adventurer found the village chief.

"It looks like the village is in trouble, is there anything I can do to help?"

He was wearing light armor and holding a crude shield. He looked like a novice who had just started his adventure.

The adventurer was just passing through this village and was about to go to the nearby big city to start his adventure, but the atmosphere in the village was obviously wrong, which even a novice like him could notice.

The doors and windows of every house were closed, and some windows were even reinforced with wooden boards. Dried blood could be seen in some corners, and the village militiamen holding short spears also looked nervous.

This is certainly not something that the wild beasts roaming outside the village can do.

A dozen villagers were organized, carrying pitchforks and spears, and went out to look for the night watchmen.

"We have looked for adventurers, but they are all missing. You are still young, don't get yourself involved."

At first, the missing ones were the patrolling night watchmen. Later, entire families of villagers living on the outskirts of the village began to disappear. And just three days ago, a family in the center of the village also disappeared at dawn.

"Can you take me to the scene?"

They are just a small village and cannot afford to hire high-level adventurers from big cities.

The villagers began to feel frightened. They reinforced the fences around the village and increased the number of night patrols, but since that day, people continued to disappear in the village.

But it was not until the evening when no one saw the night watchman that the villagers finally realized that something had happened.

After all, this is just a peaceful little village, and the biggest threat around here may be the brown bears outside the village.

At first, the villagers did not take it seriously. The other night watchmen did not notice anything unusual, the alarm bell at the entrance of the village was not rung, and there were no signs of fighting where the night watchmen were on duty. Everyone just thought that the night watchmen at the entrance of the village had deserted their duty as usual.

The villagers woke up from their sleep and found that the night watchman who was supposed to be at the entrance of the village was nowhere to be seen.

"I'm different from them."

But until dawn the next day, not only did the villagers fail to find the missing person, but two more people disappeared.

It all started a month ago.

Like the night watchman, the other villagers who were searching found nothing unusual, and the missing villagers did not make any cries for help.

"You'd better get on the road quickly."

The adventurer did not give up because of the village chief's refusal.

The village chief thought for a moment. The village did need help. Although the adventurer in front of him looked no different from the missing adventurers except for his confidence, he had no choice.

The village chief took one look at the adventurer in front of him and shook his head.

"Okay, let me tell you what happened first."

The adventurer looked very confident. This was almost true of anyone who had mastered extraordinary powers at a young age.

After listening to the village chief's story, the adventurer began his own investigation.

The moment the adventurer entered the house, he felt something was wrong.

“Was this family still around three days ago?”

The village chief nodded.

"The night watch confirmed that they were still there three days ago."

The room before him did not look like it had been vacant for only three days. There was a thick layer of dust on the floor, and there were several spider webs hanging in the corners. The wooden tables and chairs had begun to rot, and it looked like it had been empty for three years.

Even though the doors and windows of the room were tightly closed, I could still feel the faint sound of the wind, and the inexplicable chill that came with it.

These phenomena point to a possibility.

"The influence of undead energy?"

The adventurer turned and looked at the village chief beside him.

"Has the village been haunted lately?"

This kind of necrotic energy will only remain in places where the dead appear. Under this energy, things will quickly show a state of decay.

As long as we follow this clue, we will find something.

"Haunted? The gravekeeper outside the village seemed to have encountered something last month. He was so scared that he ran back to the village and hid in his house and dared not go out."

The next clue emerged.

This kind of mission is like this, you need to find clues step by step to advance the story.

After all, those missions that start right away don't have so many twists and turns, and are often resolved by official agencies such as the City Guard before they fall into the hands of adventurers.

The mission soon progressed to outside the gravekeeper's house.

The doors and windows of this small house were locked, and there was no response when I knocked on the door.

"That shouldn't be the case. The night watchman who passed by last night said there was some movement inside."

The village chief was puzzled and turned to look at the adventurer.

"Looks like I need to go find the key, if I remember correctly..."

It seems that in the original process, the adventurer has to find the key to this room.

But a good quest certainly has more than one process. The adventurer protected the village chief behind him and drew his sword.

With a clang, the door fell down.

"Cough cough."

The village chief was choked by the dust that was blown out of the house and started coughing violently, but the adventurer was well prepared. He held his breath and walked in carefully.

The house was in a dilapidated state, just like the previous one.

The adventurer moved forward slowly, and he found no trace of the gravekeeper.

The doors and windows were locked from the inside, so the gravekeeper should be inside. The adventurer clenched his sword and carefully observed his surroundings.

If the original story had developed, his caution would have allowed him to avoid the sudden attack of the gravekeeper who had transformed into a ghoul, and gain some advantages in the subsequent battles.

But now, the gravekeeper who was supposed to launch the raid was lying quietly in the fallen wardrobe in the corner of the house. He locked himself in the wardrobe before transforming into a ghoul.

Now that the Necromancer is dead, without his magical support, the Gravekeeper is just an ordinary corpse.

And the adventurer missed the body and the clues on it.

Of course, an excellent quest would not have only one clue pointing to the final goal, and the adventurer still picked up the gravekeeper’s diary on the ground.

It seems that the night watchman discovered someone digging up a corpse, but while tracking them down, he was attacked by zombies and had his arm cut.

“It’s getting closer.”

The adventurer left the house and prepared to head to the cemetery outside the village, where there would surely be more clues that would allow the mission to move forward.

If nothing goes wrong, the adventurer will soon find the next clue in the cemetery not far from the foot of the mountain, and eventually go to the cave where the necromancer originally was.

And now in that cave, a young dragon named Fari was snoring.
