Chapter 35: Reinhardt the Necromancer

"Sir, there is an unsigned letter."

In the small study, a servant brought new letters.

"anonymous?"

This kind of anonymous letter would not have been allowed into this study, but the person who delivered it was a little special.

"Viscount Carter sent it personally, but he was unwilling to reveal who the sender was."

The middle-aged man sitting in the main seat winked at the side, and the wizard next to him stepped forward, cast a protective spell, and then took the letter.

"It has been a long time since Viscount Carter went out. Two months, or three months?"

The middle-aged man was well-dressed, in good shape, and spoke in a gentle yet dignified voice. He was obviously a powerful person who had held a high position for a long time.

"Seventy-two days, my Lord."

The wizard suddenly spoke.

"You don't believe it, do you?"

"Sir, do you want to leave a safety net?"

"She certainly won't collude with the undead, but the undead will come looking for her."

The middle-aged man pondered for a moment and accepted the wizard's advice.

"But I believe it."

The middle-aged man handed the letter to the wizard beside him. With a flash of fire, the letter turned into ashes and disappeared into the air.

A smile appeared on the middle-aged man's face.

"Pass this information to Lao Si through his own intelligence channels. Given his personality, we'll have something to watch tomorrow."

The middle-aged man opened the letter and glanced over its contents.

The wizard and servants beside him suddenly understood what the middle-aged man meant.

The attendant bowed and left the study.

"It seems that the Viscount is indeed in poor health. I saw that he wrapped himself tightly and his face looked pale."

The mage carefully examined the letter in his hand.

The servant and the wizard beside him looked at each other. They knew who their master was talking about, but based on their understanding, that person could not be in collusion with undead creatures.

The servant handed the letter to the wizard, took a half step back, and answered.

The middle-aged man took the letter from the wizard.

"I don't have any objection to your plan, but the level of the people on the Fourth Prince's side is really not that good. I'm afraid they won't be able to produce the right 'evidence' and end up wasting this opportunity."

"Interesting, do you believe it? This letter says that tonight, undead creatures will appear in my lovely sister's house."

"The reason, I remember, was that you were ill?"

"My lord, there are no signs of spells or curses."

"You go and do it, but the most important thing is not to reveal your identity. The 'evidence' is secondary. If necessary, I will send your 'evidence' through my father's intelligence channel."

The wizard nodded and walked out of the study.

Seeing the two people walk out of the study, the smile on the middle-aged man's face disappeared. He squinted his eyes and leaned back in his chair.

"You actually want to use me. You really are sure of it. No matter. I'll let you use me this time. Next time, I'll catch you by the tail."

The man turned his head and looked out the window. The sun had already fallen below the horizon, with only a ray of afterglow still stubbornly lingering. Soon, it would be completely dark.

But the royal capital in the dark night is sometimes not so peaceful.

"Clap, clap."

Reinhardt heard a strange sound, a small one, not far from his door. He got up from the bed, grabbed the sword and shield beside the bed, and tiptoed to the door of his house.

"what happened?"

These didn't sound like the guards' footsteps.

"Undead, two of them, probably about level three in strength. It won't be a problem for you to deal with one, but it will be troublesome if there are two together."

The sword in his hand spoke, answering Reinhardt's question.

"Clap, clap."

The footsteps were fading away, and Reinhardt breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that he was not the target, but he soon realized what was happening.

The two undead were walking towards the room of his employer, "Lanya", who was the target of the mission to protect.

"This is not okay."

Reinhardt's record of mission failures so far is zero, and he doesn't want to make this record become one today.

So he opened the door and rushed out.

He saw the appearance of the two undead. They were wearing the standard light armor of the guards of this mansion and were about to break down the door of Lanya's room.

"Boom!"

The wooden door was knocked open by the Death Guards. Reinhardt arrived at this time and slashed at the Death Guards in front of him with the sword in his hand.

The Death Guard ignored Reinhardt's attack. It took the blow head-on, rushed into the bedroom, and attacked the big bed in the bedroom.

But there was no one on the bed, and what greeted the two undeads were crossbow arrows from the shadows.

Two crossbow arrows penetrated the eye sockets of the Death Guards, causing them to step back two steps. Reinhardt rushed over, and this time, the long sword in his hand cut off the left arm of a Death Guard.

Lanya flashed out from the corner, retreated behind Reinhardt, and began to load the crossbow, while Reinhardt also raised his shield to block the undead's attack line towards Lanya.

The sound of fighting will definitely alert the surrounding soldiers. As long as we buy a little time, the mission will not fail.

Reinhardt looked at the Death Guards not far ahead, preparing for their next attack.

But to his surprise, the two Death Guards did not rush up to start the next round of attack, but quickly retreated to the window.

Then, under Reinhardt's puzzled gaze, two Death Guards broke through the window and fled to the courtyard outside.

Two crossbow arrows flew out and accurately hit the back of the Death Guard's head.

Two Death Guards fell.

"what happened?"

A third-level undead creature shouldn't be defeated so easily. Lania's two arrows were just to slow them down.

After all, the appearance of these two undead creatures was too strange and did not trigger the alarm outside the mansion. She wanted to see if she could get some clues from them.

"Go and have a look."

The two men quickly came to the undead creature lying on the ground. Reinhardt leaned over and was about to turn over the "corpse" in front of him.

However, the "corpse" slowly moved, stood up, turned around and faced the two of them, but it did not seem to have any intention of attacking them.
Reinhardt didn't care about that. He swung his sword and cut the undead in front of him into two pieces. Now it couldn't get up.

Lanya seemed to have thought of something and looked up at the sky around her.

Several crows were flapping their wings and flying away from the mansion. It was obvious that they were the servants of a certain wizard, and they had already gotten what they wanted.

"So this is the real purpose?"

The Death Guard was wearing the uniform of his own mansion, and the scene of him slowly standing up in front of Reinhardt must have been recorded by those familiars.

To outsiders, this record seems like Reinhardt is casting a spell on the corpses, transforming them into undead creatures.
