Rather, it means 'Except Ajatashatru, everyone can become a Buddha'.

"Icchantika" means faith, and "tikadika" means incomplete. Since faith is incomplete, it is called Icchantika.

The accurate explanation is: Ajatashatru does not believe in cause and effect, and has no shame; he does not believe in karma, and does not see the present and future worlds; he does not make friends with good people, and does not follow the teachings of the Buddhas.

In other words, if you do not believe in Buddhism, then you have no wisdom and no Buddha nature, and naturally it is impossible for you to become a Buddha.

This is the general trend of Buddhism today.

Especially ten years ago, after Faxian and Buddhabhadra of Donglin Temple translated the first part of the Mahaparinirvana Sutra, in which it was said that except for Ajatashatru, everyone has Buddha nature, this theory became even more popular in the world.

However, Daosheng, who was far away in Jiankang, proposed the idea that "all living beings can succeed" after hearing the news.

This statement caused an uproar among the people, and Daosheng was attacked by the monks in Jiankang and was expelled from Jiankang.

Then he returned to Lushan.

Therefore, he is called an outlier, and it is well deserved at the moment.

If someone goes against the trend of the times, what else could he be but an outlier?
“Sometimes, the truth lies in the hands of only a few.”

Lu Chen said to Daosheng, which was also a consolation to him: "Perhaps in the near future, people will find that Master Daosheng's philosophy is correct?"
