Chapter 37

Dear Daddy Long Legs:
I don't believe I can go to heaven - it's too much to go to heaven after death when one has so much on earth.Let's see what happened.

Jerusha Abbott has won the Monthly magazine's annual short story award ($25).Most of the participating students are in the fourth grade, but she is only a sophomore.Seeing myself on the list, I can't believe it's real.Maybe I'll actually be a writer.I wish Mrs. Lippi hadn't given me such a stupid name, which sounds like a female author, doesn't it?

Also, in the spring we had an open-air show, and I was cast as Seria, Rosselin's cousin.

Finally, Julia, Sally, and I are going to New York next Friday to shop for clothes and spend the night there.Went to the theater early next morning with "Master Jervie," who had invited us.Julia was going home and Sally and I were staying at the Martha Washington Hotel.Have you heard anything more exciting than this?I've never been to a restaurant in my life, I've never been to a theatre, I've only been to one of the Anglican celebrations that orphans can attend. But that's not really a show.

Guess what we're watching? Hamlet - Come to think of it, we've been in Shakespeare class for 4 weeks and we've pretty much memorized it by heart.

It all got me so excited I couldn't sleep.

Good night, uncle.

The world is so, so, so wonderful!

Also:

I just checked the calendar and it was the 28th.

And one more:
I saw a bus driver today. One of his eyes is blue and the other is yellow. Does he look like a villain in a detective story?
