Chapter 55

Dear Daddy Long Legs:
I've gone back to school as a senior. The den is even better this year - two south facing windows and lots of furniture.Julia, who has never run out of pocket money, arrived at school two days ago and is now preoccupied with furnishing her room.

We've got new wallpaper, new carpet, fancy chairs—not last year's red-painted chairs, but real chairs. It's gorgeous, but I don't feel like I'm the right chair for it, it always makes me nervous about getting stains where I shouldn't.

Besides, Uncle, I found your letter when I got back to school—sorry, I mean your secretary's letter.

Could you please tell me an understandable reason why I cannot accept the scholarship?I really don't understand why you object. But it doesn't matter how much you object, because I've accepted it - and it won't change! While this may sound harsh, I didn't mean it.

I think, maybe you think that once you plan to go to school for me, you can't give up halfway, and you have to wait 4 years to be considered complete.

But please think about it from my point of view.Even though I accepted the scholarship, I was still produced by you for the same amount of money you paid for 4 years of tuition, but with less debt.I know you don't expect me to pay you back, but as long as I am able, I will still pay you back. With these scholarships, everything is much easier.I originally planned to spend my whole life paying off the debt, but now it seems that half a lifetime is enough.

I hope you understand where I stand and don't be offended.I will continue to accept your allowance, because living with Julia and the furniture requires a lot of allowance money, and I wish she was more frugal, or not living with me at all.

This does not count as a letter.I was going to write more, but I just installed 4 curtains and 3 door curtains - thankfully you can't see my rough needlework - toothpaste clean my iron table, sew up canvas threads , Unpacked 4 boxes of books and sent away two boxes of clothes. (It may seem unbelievable that Jerusha Abbott has two large suitcases full of clothes, but it's true!) Meanwhile, meet 50 best friends.

What a joyous first day of school.

Good night, dear uncle, don't be mad at your chick for wanting to be independent. She's grown up, screams with energy, and has beautiful feathers - and it's all because of you.

love you judy
