Chapter 15
A monk named Chen Huiming, who used to be a fourth-rank general, was rough in character and behavior, and was trying his best to track him down. He ran to the front of the crowd and caught up with Huineng.Huineng threw the robe and bowl on the stone and said, "This cassock symbolizes Buddhism, can it be fought for by force?"
Huineng then hid in the grass. After Huiming chased after him, he couldn't lift the cassock from the stone, and the cassock didn't move at all, so he shouted, "Xing Zhe, Xing Zhe, I came for the Dharma, not for the cassock!"
So Huineng came out and sat cross-legged on the stone.Huiming bowed to him and said, "I sincerely hope that you can explain the Dharma to me." Huineng said, "Since you are here for the Dharma, you can get rid of all thoughts in your mind and let me explain the Dharma to you. "
Huiming was silent for a long time.Huineng said: "Don't consciously think about goodness, don't consciously think about evil. In this state, Master Huiming, what is your true face?"
After hearing this, Huiming suddenly realized, and asked again: "Apart from the secret words and meanings just mentioned, is there any secret meaning?"
Original
Huineng said: It is not secret to tell you.If you reflect, it will be close to you.
Ming said: "Although Huiming is in Huangmei, he really hasn't seen his face."Now I have been instructed, like a person who drinks water, he knows whether he is warm or not.The person who walks today is Master Huiming.
Huineng said: "If you are like this, I will learn from Huang Mei with you."Take good care of yourself.
Ming asked again, "Where does Huiming go in the future?"
Huineng said: "If you meet Yuan, you will stop; if you meet Meng, you will stay."
Ming Li speech.
After Huineng went to Caoxi, he was chased by the wicked again. But in Sihui, among the refuge hunters, there have been [-] years of history.Time and hunters can talk about it as appropriate ③.Hunters often order to guard the net, and whenever they see life, they let it go.Every meal, send the cooking pot with vegetables.Or ask, then say: But eat meat with vegetables.
Thoughts for a day: Propagate the Dharma at the right time, and don’t run away forever. Then he went to Faxing Temple in Guangzhou ⑤, where Master Yinzong taught the Nirvana Sutra ⑥.Sometimes the wind blows and the flag moves[-], one monk said the wind moved, and the other monk said the flag moved, and there was endless discussion.
Huineng Jin said: "It's not the wind that moves, it's not the flag that moves, the heart of the benevolent moves ⑧."
Everyone was shocked.Yinzong extended to the upper table to ask for the profound truth.Seeing that Huineng's words are simple and reasonable, I can't help myself.Zong Yun: A traveler must be very human.I have heard for a long time that Huangmeiyi is coming from the south, is it a traveler?
Huineng said: "Don't dare."
Zong then saluted and asked to pass on the mantle and show it to the public.Zong Fu asked: "Huang Mei paid the order [-], how to instruct?"
Huineng said: There is nothing to teach and teach, but only to see the nature, regardless of meditation and liberation.
Zong said: Why don't you care about meditation and liberation?
Neng said: It is the two dharmas, not the Dharma.Dharma is the one and only way B11.
Zong asked again: What is the non-duality of Buddhism?
Huineng said: The master taught the Nirvana Sutra, and he clarified that the Buddha-nature is the only dharma of Buddhism. For example, Bodhisattva Noble King Bodhisattva said to the Buddha B12: For committing the four heavy prohibitions B13, committing the five rebellious crimes B14, and one Chanti etc. B15, should we cut off the good roots and Buddha nature? The Buddha said: There are two roots of goodness: one is permanent, and the other is impermanent. The Buddha nature is very non-permanent, so it is continuous, so it is called non-duality;Aggregates and Realms B16: Ordinary people see two, and wise people realize that their nature is non-duality, and the nature of non-duality is the Buddha-nature.

Buddhism uses it to show the mighty virtue of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in subjugating demons. It is also a solemn offering for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas along with the "building".The shape of the flag is generally composed of a triangular flag head, a rectangular flag body, flag hands placed on the left and right sides of the flag body, and flag feet under the flag body, ranging from large to small.Banners are usually made of cloth, but there are also gold and copper, miscellaneous jade, paper and so on.

Huineng said: "What I told you is not a secret. If you can look back at your original mind with wisdom, the magic method is on your side."
Huiming said: "Although Huiming has been practicing in Huangmei, he has never awakened to know his true colors. Today, I have been instructed, just like people drinking water. Only you know whether it is cold or hot. From now on, you are my Huiming. Master!"
Huineng said: "If you think so, then both of you and I will take the Fifth Patriarch Hongren as our teacher, and take good care of our thoughts and practice in the future."
Huiming asked again: "Where should I go from now on, Huiming?"
Huineng said: "You can stop when you encounter a place with the word 'Yuan', and you can stay when you encounter a place with the word 'Meng'."
Huiming then saluted and said goodbye.
Huineng later came to Caoxi Mountain, but was chased by villains again. So in the place of Sihui, I had to be in the hunter's team for 15 years in a flash.During this period of time, he often lectured on the Dharma to the hunters according to their different situations.Hunters often asked him to watch over the animal nets. Whenever they saw animals fall into the nets, Huineng would release them.Every time it was time to eat, Huineng always cooked the vegetables in the meat pot and ate them.Sometimes when asked why he did this, Huineng replied: I only eat vegetables from the meat pot.
Finally, one day, Huineng thought: It's time to spread the Dharma, and we can't go on hiding like this forever. So Huineng left Sihui and came to Faxing Temple in Guangzhou, just in time to meet Master Yinzong giving lectures on the Nirvana Sutra. At this time, a gust of wind blew the flag and started to flutter. One monk said it was the wind moving, and another monk said it was the flag moving, so they argued endlessly.
Huineng came in at this time and said, "It's not the wind that's moving, nor the flag that's moving, it's your hearts that are moving."
All the monks present were astonished.Master Yinzong then invited Huineng to sit at the table, and asked him questions to verify the profound meaning of Buddhism. What Huineng said was simple and clear, every sentence was reasonable, and he didn't stick to words.Yin Zong said: "Xingzhe must not be an ordinary person. I have long heard that the person who passed on the teachings of Master Huangmei Hongren has come to the south. Could it be you?"
Huineng said, "I dare not take it."
Yinzong then saluted Huineng and asked Huineng to take out the cassock passed down by the fifth patriarch Hongren and show it to everyone.Yinzong asked again: "What exactly is the mantle teaching taught by Master Hongren, the fifth patriarch of Huangmei?"
Huineng said: "I didn't say anything. I just explored how to understand the mind and see the nature. I don't advocate liberation through meditation practice."
Yin Zong asked: "Why don't you advocate meditation practice to get liberation?"
Huineng said: "Because practicing meditation to seek liberation is a method with distinction and treatment, not Buddhism. Buddhism is the law of non-duality."
Yinzong asked again: "What is the non-duality of Buddhism?"
Huineng said: "Master, when you talk about the "Nirvana Sutra", you know that seeing the Buddha's nature is the only way of Buddhism. For example, the bright and noble King Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: "The four fundamentals of killing, stealing, adultery, and lying The precepts; committing the five sins of killing father, mother, killing Arhats, splitting the Sangha, and harming the body of the Buddha, as well as disbelief in Buddhism, cutting off all good roots, and ignoring the one Chanti of becoming a Buddha, etc., should be to cut off the Buddha's nature and good roots Is it?” The Buddha said: “There are two kinds of good roots, one is eternal and the other is fleeting.” Buddha nature is neither eternal nor fleeting, so good roots are constantly extinguished. This is the non-duality of Buddhism. The five precepts and ten virtues are good, the five rebellions and ten evils are bad, and the Buddha nature is neither good nor bad. This is the non-duality of Buddhism. Five aggregates and eighteen realms, ordinary people see What is different is the difference, and the wise person understands that its nature is indifferent, and this indifferent nature is the Buddha-nature.”

Yin Zongwen said that he put his palms together happily, and said: A lecture on sutras is like rubble; So he shaved his hair for Huineng, and wished to be a teacher.Huineng then opened the Dongshan Dharma Gate under the bodhi tree.
Huineng obtained the Dharma in Dongshan, suffered all kinds of hardships, and his life seemed to be hanging by a thread.Today, being able to have the same meeting with envoys, bureaucrats, monks, nuns, Taoists and lay people is not only the fate of many kalpas, but also the reason why we have made offerings to all Buddhas in the past, and have the same kind of good roots, so that we can only hear the sudden teaching and obtain the Dharma.Teaching is passed down by the ancestors, not benefiting oneself from wisdom.May those who have heard the teachings of the former saints purify their minds and dispel doubts after hearing them, just like the saints of the previous generations.
After hearing the Dharma, the crowd rejoiced and bowed before leaving.

After hearing these speeches, Yin Zong was delighted, folded his hands respectfully, and said: "My explanations of Buddhist scriptures are as worthless as bricks, tiles and earth; People cherish it." So he shaved Huineng's hair and shaved his head, and hoped to worship Huineng as his teacher.Huineng then, under the bodhi tree, gave a lecture on the Buddhist teachings passed down by the fifth patriarch Hongren:
"Since Huineng learned the Dharma teaching from Master Hongren, he has suffered a lot, and his life is always at stake. Today, being able to gather here with Governor Wei, officials, monks, nuns, Taoists and laymen at the Dharma Assembly is a fate that has been accumulated for many kalpas." What has been achieved is also the reason why I have heard about the supreme Sudden Teachings of Buddhism today and the reason why I have obtained these teachings. This Sudden Teachings are all Buddhas of all ages. What is passed down is not my personal wisdom. If you want to listen to the teachings of the sages, each of you should let your heart be quiet, and after listening to the teachings, each of you will get rid of the confusion in your heart, then you will be like the sages and sages. There is no difference."
After hearing the teaching, everyone laughed heartily and withdrew after the prayer.
