"Wei Shishi, you are an Easterner. As long as your heart is pure, you will have no sin. Even if you are a Westerner, if your heart is not pure, you will still have sin. The East creates sin, and you can call the name of the Buddha and pray for rebirth in the West; if a Westerner creates sin , which side should we go to when we call on the name of the Buddha?

"Ordinary people who are foolish and delusional can't realize their own nature, can't realize that there is a pure land in themselves, and hope to be reborn in the east and the west; but the people who realize it are the same everywhere, and there is no difference. Therefore, the Buddha said: "Depend on where you are and stay forever Peace and happiness. As long as there are no unwholesome thoughts in Wei Shishi’s heart, the Western Paradise is not far away. If there are unwholesome thoughts in his heart, even if he recites the Buddha’s name, he will not be able to be reborn in the Western Paradise. Now I advise all good teachers to eliminate the ten evils first. Then you have traveled one hundred thousand miles; if you get rid of the eight evils, you will have traveled another eight thousand miles. Seeing your true nature all the time and practicing straight as usual, it will be as easy as snapping your fingers to the Western Paradise of Ultimate Bliss. If you only do ten good deeds, why should you be more willing to die?Unceasing ten evil minds, what Buddha will come to welcome you?If you realize the sudden dharma of lifelessness, you can only see the west for a moment; if you don't realize the Buddha's name to seek survival, how can Lu Yao achieve it?Huineng and everyone moved west in an instant, and we will see each other now. Do you want to see each other?
Everyone saluted and said ②: If you see it here, why would you want to be reborn?May the monk be merciful, and it will appear in the west and be seen by everyone.

Teacher's words: Everyone!The body of the world is the city, and the eyes, ears, nose, and tongue are the doors.There are five doors on the outside and the door on the inside.The heart is the earth, and the sex is the king.The king's mind is on the ground, the nature is in the king, and the nature is gone and the king is not.Sex exists in the body and mind, but when sex is removed, the body and mind are destroyed.The Buddha works in the nature, don't seek outside the body.

The delusion of self-nature is sentient beings, and the enlightenment of self-nature is Buddha.Compassion is Avalokitesvara, and the name of joy is Shizhi.To be pure is Sakyamuni, and to be straight is Amitabha.

The human self is Sumeru ④, the evil heart is the sea, the affliction is the waves, the poison is the evil dragon, the falsehood is the ghosts and gods, the dust is the fish and turtles, the greed and hatred are the hells ⑤, and the ignorance is the animals.

Good friends!Always do the ten good deeds, and heaven will come ⑥; get rid of others and me, and the sun will fall; get rid of evil thoughts, and the sea will be exhausted; no worries, and the waves will disappear;Self-awareness Tathagata on the ground, magnifies the light, illuminates the six gates and cleanses the outside, and can break the six desires and the heavens⑦.The self-nature is illuminated within, the three poisons are eliminated immediately, hell and other crimes are eliminated in a short time, and the inside and outside are clear, no different from the West.If you don't do this practice, how can you get there?

The public hears it and sees it clearly.Everyone worships, and everyone sighs for goodness!Singing words: I wish all living beings in the dharma world, and those who hear it will realize it for a while.

③ Physical body: Refers to the physical body, that is, the physical body.A physical body composed of the four major forms of materiality.Conversely, the formless is called the dharmakaya, or the wisdom body.

④ I am Sumeru: Buddhism believes that people in the world have created crimes as high as Mount Sumeru due to their "self-attachment" and "law enforcement". .

⑤ Hell: translated as unhappy, disgusting, bitter, bitter, nothing, etc., the most bitter place in the six realms.Its base is underground, so it is called hell.Any place where there is only suffering but no joy can be compared to hell.

⑥Heaven: Also known as the Heavenly Palace, which is symmetrical with "Hell".It refers to the heavenly palace where the celestial beings live, that is, the place where good people receive blessings according to their good karma after death.Any place where there is an environment where you can enjoy yourself freely can be compared to heaven.

⑦Six Desire Heavens: There are six heavens in the Desire Realm, which are called the Six Desire Heavens: [-]. The Four Kings Heaven (there are the four kings of Jiguo, Guangmu, Zengchang, and Duowen, so they are called the Four Kings Heaven); [-]. Ye Mo Tian; [-]. Tushi Tian; [-]. Le Changing Tian;

Master Huineng continued: "As long as Governor Wei pursues the ten virtues, why does he need to be reborn in the Western Paradise? If you keep eliminating the ten evils, what Buddha will come to welcome you to be reborn in the West? If you are not enlightened The Sudden Teaching of Birth and Death, seeing the Western Paradise of Ultimate Bliss in person, can only be reached in an instant; if one cannot be enlightened and call the name of Buddha, but seek rebirth, the road is hundreds of thousands of miles away, how can one achieve it? Huineng, I can move you to the Western Paradise in an instant, and you can see it right now. Do you want to see it?"

Everyone bowed to the master and said, "If you can see it here, why do you need to make a wish to be reborn in the west? I hope that the master will be merciful and show the west immediately so that everyone can see it."

Master Huineng said: "Everyone, the physical body of people in the world is like a city, and the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, etc. are like the gates. There are five gates outside, and one mind gate inside. The heart is like the land, and the self-nature is like the emperor. The emperor lives in the land of his own mind. The self-nature exists, the emperor exists, the self-nature does not exist, and the emperor does not exist. The self-nature exists, and the body and mind exist; Never seek outside yourself.

"When the self-nature is ignorant, the Buddha is also a sentient being; when the self-nature is awakened, the sentient being is the Buddha. If you can be compassionate, you will become Avalokitesvara at the moment; if you are willing to give alms, you will be Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva now. If you can purify your own nature, you will be Sakyamuni , to be equal and straight is Amitabha.

"When someone has dual attachments to self, obstacles arise like Mount Sumeru, wrong views and thoughts are like endless oceans, afflictions arise like waves surging, vicious and harmful hearts are like ferocious dragons, and false thoughts are like ghosts, running around in dust and toil. Just like fish and turtles, if you have greed and anger in your heart, you will fall into hell, and if you are ignorant, you will fall into the animal realm.

"Good friends! Always practice the ten virtues, and heaven will be in front of you; Get rid of the attachment to others and self, and the barriers will collapse; Get rid of greed, and the sea of ​​desires will suddenly dry up; No worries, it's like a wave that doesn't flow; The poisonous heart in the heart is eliminated, like evil. Dragon fish and turtles are extinct. Realize the Tathagata Buddha nature from the ground, magnify the light, generate great wisdom, illuminate and purify the external eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and illuminate all the six heavens in the world of desire. The self-nature is reflected inwardly, the three poisons of greed, hatred and ignorance are immediately eliminated, and the sin karma that should fall into hell and suffer is also instantly eliminated. The inside and outside are transparent, and there is no difference from the Western Paradise. Can you reach the Western Paradise on the other side?"

After hearing what Master Huineng said, everyone immediately saw their true nature.Paying homage to the master, they all sighed and praised, and chanted loudly: "I hope that all living beings in the world who hear this law will be enlightened immediately."

The teacher said: I said to the public that there is no mutual praise, but if you practice according to this, you will always be in the same place as me.If you don't practice according to this, what good will it be for you to shave your hair and go home?

Why bother to uphold the precepts?What is the use of practicing Zen?

Grace is filial piety to support parents, and righteousness is sympathy for each other.

Letting go leads to harmony between respectability and humility, and tolerance keeps all evildoers from making noise.

If you can drill wood to create fire, red lotus will grow from mud.

What tastes bitter is good medicine, but what hurts the ear must be good advice.

If you change your mistakes, you will be wise, and if you protect your shortcomings, you will not be a good person in your heart.

The benefits of daily routines ②, enlightenment does not come from giving money.

Bodhi only seeks from the heart, why bother to seek mystery from the outside.

It is said that according to this practice, the West is only at present.

The teacher replied: Good teacher!Always practice according to the gatha, see and take from your own nature, and directly attain the Buddha way.Time does not wait for each other, everyone will disperse, and I will return to Caoxi.If people have doubts, they come to ask.

At that time, the governor, the bureaucrats, and the good men and women in the association all got enlightened and believed in and practiced.

As long as your heart is pure, you can see the Western Paradise in your own nature.”

Governor Wei asked again: "How to practice at home? I hope you can teach us."

The master said: "I will tell you a "Ode to No Phase". As long as you practice according to this ode, you will always be with me. If you don't practice according to this ode, even if you are ordained and become a monk, what use is it for cultivating the Tao? "The hymn said:

At that time, Governor Wei and the officials, as well as the faithful men and women at the Dafa Conference, were all enlightened. They believed in Master Huineng's teachings and obeyed them.
