Life is but a thought: Nan Huaijin's 15 Life Wisdom Lessons

Chapter 41 Treat each day as the last day

Chapter 41 Live each day as if it were your last (2)
Mr. Nan Huaijin once said: "The heaven and the earth cannot be endless and live forever! No matter how many years, even hundreds of thousands of billions of years, there must be a moment of end. 'The heaven and the earth can't last long, let alone people?' Then, life cannot be expected to last forever. It is windy today, it will rain tomorrow, and it will be sunny the day after tomorrow...even the sky and the earth cannot last long, let alone people!" Mr. Nan Huaijin pointed out that everything in the world is changing every second, Unable to grasp, people should use the original way of life to respond to all changes without change.

Yixiu's teacher has a precious teacup, which is a rare treasure.

One day, Yixiu accidentally broke it, feeling very guilty. At this moment, he heard the teacher's footsteps getting closer and closer to him.In desperation, Yixiu hurriedly hid the broken teacup behind his back.

When the teacher walked in front of him, Yixiu suddenly said: "Why do people have to die?"

"This is the law of nature. Everything in the world has life and death." The teacher said slowly.

At this time, Ikkyu took out the broken teacup and said, "Your teacup's death date has come!" Then, Ikkyu handed the fragments of the teacup to the master and left quickly...

While we are admiring Yixiu's wit, we are also recalling the teacher's words: "Everything in the world is born and dies." No matter how beloved, no matter how carefully cared for, no matter how careful, it may be damaged and broken , Lost, even if it has been preserved, I am afraid it will be yellow, rusty, and dilapidated.

Things are like this, so is life. It is almost impossible to hold on tightly and firmly. One should imagine one's life as an hourglass, and in the upper half of the hourglass, there are thousands of sands. When they flow through the narrow slit in the middle, they are all average and slow, and no one can let many sand grains pass through that narrow slit at the same time except by breaking it.This is like the uncontrollability of life, but even if there are a lot of annoying things waiting for us to do every day, we must solve them patiently, otherwise the sand will accumulate in our hearts.

Life is impermanent, good can become bad, and bad can become good.Seeing a flower decay and wither, arouses the feeling of impermanence; seeing a seed show vitality and grow vigorously, one can't help but feel the preciousness of impermanence. So, when things happen, don't force yourself too much, let yourself fall into a corner, but cherish what you have now.

Once upon a time, there was an apple tree that bore 10 apples.Unexpectedly, people took off 9 of them and left only one for it.This time, the apple tree became angry. It cut off its meridians and refused to grow.

In the second year, the apple tree produced 5 apples, 4 were taken away, and he got 1.Now, the apple tree is psychologically balanced. It got 10% last year and 20% this year!doubled.

After reading this story, it is really ironic. The apple tree seems to have forgotten what it wants and what its duty is.It does not hesitate to cut off its own meridians and refuses to grow, just to prevent others from taking too much fruit. In fact, it can be changed to a different way of thinking: continue to grow. For example, in the second year, it produced 100 fruits, 90 were taken away, and 10 were obtained by itself. It is very possible that 99 are taken away and 1 is obtained by oneself. It doesn't matter, the apple tree can continue to grow, and it will bear 1000 fruits in the third year... Of course, how many fruits the apple tree gets is not the most important thing, the most important thing is that it is growing! When the apple tree grows into a towering tree, the forces that have hindered its growth will be so weak that they can be ignored.Through this story, we also understand: how stupid it is to care too much about temporary gains and losses and forget about growth.

The world is impermanent. When we really can't grasp something, we choose to let go, accept this reality with a calm mind, and then cherish what we have around us.In this way, there will be less regret.

look at your feet

In our lifetime, we don't have so much time to regret yesterday, never forget yesterday, worry more about tomorrow, assume and speculate about unknown things... the real purpose and principle of life is to watch our feet walk. The most important thing for us is to watch our feet walk and live every day and every second seriously.

Look at your feet and walk, you have to be down-to-earth, live in the moment, don't rush for success, see something at your fingertips, ignore the road under your feet, and run away, but you stumble, the "beautiful" you see is nothing but It was my own eyesight that made a mistake... It was a waste of nothing.

Mr. Nan Huaijin said: "Those who believe in Buddhism or other religions should repent in a moment of repentance. At such a quiet time, they are in the realm of Buddha. Your troubles are gone, and there is no second way. The so-called life is impermanent. , Many times, we cannot grasp our circumstances, what we can grasp is the present, and live in the present.”

In life, many people believe in the afterlife and the past life. When facing the misfortune of this life, they use the past life as an excuse, saying that it is owed by the previous life; .But in fact, this is wrong. No matter what a person's life is, don't pretend to others, and don't wait until tomorrow. You must know that "people are not me" and "if you don't do it now, when will you focus on it".

There are many disciples of the Fifth Patriarch Fayan. Among these disciples, Foyan Longmen Qingyuan, Fojian Taiping Huiqin and Foguo Yuanwu Keqin are the most famous. They are called "Three Buddhas under Fayan's sect" by other disciples.

For a while, the Fifth Patriarch, Zen Master Fayan, led his disciples on a journey, and stopped to rest when passing a small pavilion. When he was about to leave, the Fifth Patriarch Fayan saw that the lamp oil was about to burn out, so he asked his disciples to talk about the situation.

Soon, Zen Master Huiqin said: "Caifeng dancing Danxia."

Zen Master Qingyuan said: "The iron snake crosses the ancient road."

Zen Master Keqin said, "Look at your feet."

Fifth Patriarch Fayan greatly appreciated Chan Master Keqin's words.

"Look at your feet" is simple, but it contains philosophy. When everything becomes dark, the way back and the way ahead are invisible, just like the previous life and the next life, we can't touch it. What should we do at this time?Of course it is "look at your feet, look at this life"!Otherwise, it is possible that "suddenly stepping into the air, the road is dead and there is no news, one super straight into the Tathagata's land, and the magic of Hengsha is infinite!"

You know, no one in this world lives in the past, and no one lives in the future.People can only live in the present moment, the present moment.

One day, the Buddha had just finished his lunch when a businessman came to ask the Buddha to dispel his doubts and give him some advice. The Buddha then took him into a quiet room and patiently listened to the merchant's distress and doubts.

The businessman talked for a long time, including remorse for the past, worries about the future, and some things he couldn't figure out.

Seeing his chatter, the Buddha motioned him to stop and asked him, "Have you had lunch yet?"

The businessman nodded and said, "I've already eaten."

The Buddha asked again: "Are the cooking utensils and tableware clean and intact?"

The businessman quickly said, "Yes, everything has been cleaned up." The businessman was puzzled by the Buddha's question, and he asked, "Why do you ask me these irrelevant things? Please give me a correct answer to my question." Bar!"

The Buddha smiled at him and said, "Your question has already been answered." After that, he asked him to leave.

The businessman was a little puzzled and didn't want to understand what the Buddha said. If he asked any more questions, the Buddha would not say anything. After a few days, the businessman finally understood the truth of the Buddha and came to thank the Buddha.

At this time, the Buddha said to his disciples and businessmen: "If anyone is obsessed with yesterday's events, regrets and troubles, or worries about tomorrow's events, he will become a dead grass!"

Buddha's words make us think deeply. In our lifetime, we don't have so much time to regret yesterday, never forget yesterday, worry more about tomorrow, assume and speculate about unknown things... the real purpose and principle of life is to watch our feet walk. The most important thing for us is to watch our feet walk and live every day and every second seriously.
