Life is but a thought: Nan Huaijin's 15 Life Wisdom Lessons

Chapter 42 Treat each day as the last day

Chapter 42 Live each day as if it were your last (3)
Don't worry about tomorrow's road
Worry about tomorrow, worry about it tomorrow!Prepaying for tomorrow's troubles in advance may not necessarily solve tomorrow's troubles, or make one's life relaxed and poetic.Going through each day with sorrow, imagining the troubles you might encounter, will only add to your troubles. In fact, it is not too late to think about it when troubles come.

In "The Analects of Confucius: Quiet Cultivation", Mr. Nan Huaijin said: "For the future, why bother to think about it?"

Master Shengyan also said: "Worry is unnecessary torture; hard work is the driving force for safety." He also said: "What you get now is what you created in the past, and what you get in the future is what you do now."

They are all telling us that instead of worrying about tomorrow's troubles and letting the unknown pain torture our hearts, it is better to enjoy every minute and every second of the moment.

In life, many people don't understand this truth. They always go to bed with worries and sleep with a burden on their backs. Even if they close their eyes, their brows are frowning, and they even dream about what they are worried about in their dreams. In fact, more than 90% of a person's troubles are just adding troubles, which are meaningless and just scaring themselves.

We don't need to worry about tomorrow's road at all.Even if you have troubles tomorrow, you can’t solve them today, because how can you prevent things that haven’t happened yet?Instead of letting the unknown troubles of tomorrow torment us, it is better to do today's things well with our heart, so as to "face life with 'preparation for the best, plan for the worst'".In this way, there will be fewer worries, more happiness, and better sleep.

Every morning, the little monk will be responsible for cleaning the fallen leaves in the temple yard. For him, sweeping fallen leaves is really a hard job!Spring and summer are better, but when autumn comes, he starts to worry.Because every time the wind blows, the leaves always flutter and fall with the wind, and it takes him a lot of time to clean the leaves. If the wind blows again, all he has done will be in vain.

"Is there any good way?" The little monk asked the people around him.

Later, a monk said to him: "You shake the tree vigorously before cleaning tomorrow to shake off all the fallen leaves, then you don't need to sweep the fallen leaves the day after tomorrow."

The little monk thought it was a good idea.Early the next morning, the little monk shook the tree vigorously.Soon, the yellow leaves fell off, and the little monk swept the leaves all at once.Great, no need to sweep leaves tomorrow.

One day later, the little monk went to the yard and couldn't help being dumbfounded: the yard was full of fallen leaves as before.

The old monk, who knew everything a long time ago, came over and said to the young monk, "Silly boy, no matter how hard you try today, the fallen leaves will still fall down tomorrow."

At this time, the little monk suddenly realized that he felt remorse for his actions.

In the world, there are many things that cannot be done in advance, just like the little monk in the story, he thought that if he shook the leaves in advance, he would not have to sweep the floor tomorrow? But the results tell us that the fallen leaves are falling continuously and continuously.Through this story, we also understand that today we cannot predict tomorrow's troubles, nor can we solve tomorrow's problems. Only living seriously in the present is the most authentic attitude towards life.

In life, some people often want to remove all the troubles of life in advance or at one time, so that they can live better, more comfortable and completely carefree in the future. In fact, many things cannot be done ahead of time.Worrying about the future prematurely will not help anything, but will only make your life very tiring and helpless. On the contrary, it will make you feel that your life is a failure and deprive you of your original happiness.Just like Li Bai's poem "Tomorrow's sorrow comes tomorrow's sorrow", it is to exhort people to forget the troubles of tomorrow's unknown, and enjoy the joy of the present to the fullest.

The so-called "there must be a road when the car reaches the mountain, and the boat will be straight when it reaches the bridge".Besides, how can you solve tomorrow's troubles in advance?More importantly, imagined troubles are much more troublesome than actual troubles.Worry about tomorrow's troubles tomorrow, and enjoy the joy of the moment to the fullest.

You can't have both fish and bear's paw

The way of a sage and the talent of a sage are like a fish and a bear’s paw. You can’t have both. Everyone has their own way of life. Rather than complaining about others, it is better to be calm.Only when you understand and understand clearly, will you not be depressed and frowning over temporary gains and losses. As long as you keep a calm attitude towards everything, then gains and losses are nothing.

There is a fanatical dream of making contributions in everyone's heart, but only a few people can succeed.Maybe you have all the conditions, but you lack the illusory luck, and the final result is likely to be a little bit short and a thousand miles away.

Mr. Nan Huaijin once said: "From ancient times to modern times, the fate of those with talents and abilities is not good. It is because of this that fate hinders each other, and the two always hinder each other."

In "Zhuangzi Neipian Great Master Sixth", there is "Confucius said: 'Qiu, the heaven kills the people. Although, I share it with you.'" Translated, it means-Zigong asked Confucius: "Teacher What is it?" Confucius said, "I am punished by heaven, and I am suffering."

"Although, I share it with you." However, I am not the only one who suffers. As a student of Confucius, I share the same goals. You, like me, also suffer. It is a principle that people who were born in an era of turmoil and who take saving the world and the people as their duty must suffer.

Everyone has their own responsibilities in life, and Confucius' life is a vivid embodiment of taking the world as his own responsibility.Mencius said that Yi Yin "thinks of the people of the world, everyone, husband and wife, who will not be blessed by Yao and Shun, if they are pushed into the ditch." Caring for the world, you need to endure more hardships and experiences than ordinary people.Even if we cannot worry about the world and care about all people, we should face up to the responsibilities and pains that life entrusts to us without hesitation.

Regarding Confucius' words, Mr. Nan Huaijin interpreted this outlook on life with a poem by Du Mu, a poet of the Tang Dynasty: "The middle road follows my strengths, and the reason is that the two are interfering. Don’t taste it.” Some people are smart and capable, but have no luck, and suffer all their lives, just like Confucius said, “Qiu, the sky kills the people.”Some people have a good "fate", but they can get something for nothing. However, if you understand it, there will be no worries in life.In fact, everyone's gains and losses have their own causes and consequences, so there is no need to be jealous or envious of others.

Once, for a long time, many people denied Xu Zhimo's position in the history of Chinese literature. But now, more and more people come to read his poems and agree with his works.

why?It is because of Xu Zhimo that we know Cambridge, British and European literature and local culture. So far, many people regard Cambridge as the holy land of modern literature and the sanctuary of academic freedom.

It can be said that Xu Zhimo is an ideal seeker, but also a practitioner.Like all romantic poets, his life was full of vigor and vitality. He divorced his wife Zhang Youyi, which became a sensational news at the time, and was also called the first "Western-style" divorce in modern Chinese history.later.Xu Zhimo's divorce declaration was published as an article, heralding the arrival of a new century in which Chinese youth pursue freedom in love; his second marriage was to a friend's wife. Cursing, but this does not affect the love he pursues; in his life, he has been obsessed with another woman, and even crashed and died because he was rushing to her speech.

Talent and fate are interfering, and Xu Zhimo's life is the best interpretation. Some people say: "Life itself is a kind of pain, but for the breathtaking beauty of the setting sun, I would rather choose pain." Life is like this, and so is life.Just like Xu Zhimo, in some ways, you gain a lot, but in other ways, you must be losing something.

The way of a sage and the talent of a sage are like a fish and a bear’s paw. You can’t have both. Everyone has their own way of life. Rather than complaining about others, it is better to be calm.Only when you understand and understand clearly, will you not be depressed and frowning over temporary gains and losses. As long as you keep a calm attitude towards everything, then gaining and losing are nothing.
