A Dragons Favor

When mother came to me to confess what she found out from Ellie, my jaw dropped. How she could think that by avoiding me and her feelings would be helping any of us was beyond me. Unfortunately by the time I found out she had already left for devils peak, mother and I had formulated a plan for me to win Ellie over. I was hastily packing up what I needed, if I rode Ash I would catch up to her in no time considering she left Silvermane behind.

"Give her our love and take care of her." My mother stated as I sat in my saddle preparing to leave.

"You both come back any time, okay?" My father showed great concern.

" I will I promise." I yelled over my shoulder as I galloped away.

There was a light drizzle as I made my way down the dirt path, Ash was heaving as his hooves pounded the ground, we were making excellent ground. That's when I saw it, a group of men surrounding a very frightened looking woman clutching a bag to her chest. I raced Ash faster toward the men, leaping off his back as he passed them. Unsheathing my sword I yelled at the men,

"GET BACK OR I'LL RUN YOU THROUGH!"

One decided to try his luck and rushed at me, with one swift motion I sliced him down blood dripping from my sword as I repositioned.

"ANYONE ELSE?!"

The men slowly retreated to their horses and galloped away, I turned slowly to the woman behind me. Her clothes were torn and tears were falling down her face.

"Micah!" She sobbed at me making more tears fall.

"Ellie..." I brought her into a tight embrace,

"A lot of help you were." I poked its nose.

With my arm wrapped around Ellies shoulders I guided her to ash. I pulled a thick cloak from my saddlebag and wrapped it around her shoulders before lifting her onto his back. Taking the reins I walked at his shoulders guiding him into the town of Vanderbilt. We would get a room tonight and continue in the morning when the rain had let up.

Inside our room I drew a hot bath for Ellie. She had been through a lot and needed to relax.

"Give me the dragon..." I stated approaching her.

"Felix."

"What?"

"His name is Felix."

"Did you name him? And how do you know it's a him?"

"He told me...We mindlinked."

"I didn't know he could do that."

"I didn't either." She sighed putting him in my arms.

I saw blood on her tunic once I held the dragon, it must've been hidden by the satchel.

"What happened?" I pointed at the blood.

"They chased me down, and tried cutting my clothes off with their daggers before you arrived. One of them cut too deep " She said as she walked to the bathroom, throwing her shredded tunic out as she climbed into the tub. My face grew red with anger, how could i let this happen. I vowed from here on I wouldn't leave her side, I would dedicate my life to protecting hers.
