A Dragons Favor

It had been two days since Ellie and Micah returned from their trip with a little hatchling. The overall meeting didn't go very well, it ended with Ellie storming out of the cabin. Micah decided to take her on a ride to ease the tension, something special was building between those two I could sense it. It was a beautiful day I noted as I gathered eggs from the chicken hut, the horses were grazing in a nearby field with Anthony sitting close by watching. His obsession with animals was borderline unhealthy, I chuckled to myself. The sun was warm and shining bright, flowers had started to poke their heads through the leftover snow, winter was over. Soon spring would breath new life into everything. I looked toward the edge of the forest and found Micah angrily hacking away at a tree, something was wrong. I abandoned my chores and strode over to him.

"Micah, what's wrong?" I noticed tears welling in his eyes as he focused his anger on the tree in front of him.

"She drives me crazy!" He stated as he used all his force to knock the tree down.

"Hey, hey. Let's take a break. You can tell me what happened."

"I just can't understand..." He began wiping his eyes and taking a deep breath to calm himself.

"Tell me what happened. " I sat him down on the tree he just fell.

"I took Ellie to the meadow so we could talk about our next move. I confessed my feelings for her and told her I wanted to go with her and raise the dragon. You know what she said?"

"Hmm?" I knew he loved her it's about time he told her.

"She said she hated me and never wants to see me again. How? How can she hate me??"

"She doesn't share the same feelings you do?"

"Well then why would she cuddle with me when we delivered the egg? Why hug me? Why kiss me? If she hated me why would she do all this?!"

"Yes mom! I don't understand!"

"Where is she now?"

"Probably the barn with that dragon."

"Ok, I'm going to figure this out. Try not to work so hard "

I strode to the barn, Micah had every right to be confused her behavior was off and I was going to find out why.

Once I reached her loft I discovered Ellie packing.

"Going somewhere? "

She jumped at the sound of my voice.

"Norma!" She clutched her bag to her chest.

"What are you doing?" I sat and patted on the bed next to me for her to sit next to me.

"I have to leave to devils peak."

"Ok I'll get Micah ready then."

"No. I'm going alone. "

"Oh no you're not!" I chuckled at her.

"I can't travel with him. He told me he loves me and I rejected him, that would be far too awkward."

"Yes about that. I understand you said you hated him despite showing the opposite emotion in your actions. "

"Well I..."

"Honey what's really going on?" I looked deep into her eyes, for some reason I could always get the truth out by doing that.

"I don't hate him," she sighed " In fact I love him so much."

"Then why tell him otherwise?"

"It's not fair to him. Hes such an attractive man he could get any girl he wants. I don't want to keep him from living the life he deserves because some dragon hatched early and imprinted on me. If I push him away he'll get over me and meet some beautiful girl who can give him the life he deserves. I have no choice." Tears were falling down her face as she confessed to me.

"Oh honey..."

"No my mind is made up, I'm leaving." She resolved wiping her tears and stood up.

After leaving the loft I developed a plan, these kids were going to be together I'll make sure of it.

"Micah!" I flagged him down, "She lied."

"What??"

" She really loves you she just feels you deserve more than she can give. But dont worry I have a plan." I sat him down and started telling him what he needs to do.
