Chapter 5 - The Adopted One

"I'm going to introduce you to our new adopted son now."

That's what my father said as we walked to the dining table. As he had said the other day, it seemed that he was determined to get rid of me and make his adopted son the heir. However, I hadn't expected that the adopted son would come to our house today.

"What?"

She couldn't hide her surprise as she hadn't heard about the adoption.

"Come in."

At the father's signal, a young man about my age entered the room.

"I'm Dimito Eslund," he said.

Eslund, the fact that he shares the same last name as me means that the father has already gone through the adoption process.

"Look, I'm a genius in magic!, so I won't tolerate you licking my chops just because I'm a commoner."

He insisted with a regal bearing. As a commoner, his parents were non-magicians, but even in such families, children who can use magic are sometimes born. Perhaps he was one of those exceptions.

"Are you Norman, by any chance?" "Yes, I am, but..."

Dimito looked me in the eye and spoke to me.

"So you're the incompetent one who can't use magic, even though your parents are excellent magicians?" "What?"

I was confused by the insult that was suddenly thrown out.

"You really are a filial disappointment, aren't you? But don't worry now. I'll protect this house."

When he said that, I couldn't say anything back. The fact that I can't use magic is a fact that I can't help.

"Hey, you don't have to talk like that."

Dimito's attitude seemed to annoy her, and my younger sister, Nene, rebelled.

"You're my sister Nene, aren't you? I will not allow you to rebel against me, even if you are my sister. After all, I am the next head of the family." "What?"

My sister's eyes were wide open. And she couldn't say anything back.

"So, how long are you going to stay here?

Dimito mouthed this as he looked at me.

"Dad, you promised to get him out of this house, didn't you?" "Yes, we did." "What?"

Only my sister, who didn't know that I was going to be kicked out of the house, expressed her surprise again.

"That's why I want you to get out of here. I can't stand the sight of an incompetent like you in front of me." "Norman, that's it. Now get out of my house."

From the way my father spoke, it sounded as if Dimito, his adopted son, wanted me out of the house.

"Okay......."

I could only nod weakly.

"Hmmm, what a mess we're in."

That's what the demon Mr.Fulcas said to me after I was kicked out of the house.

Incidentally, Mr.Fulcas saw all of my interactions at home. However, since no one but me could see him, no one noticed his presence.

"I can't help it. I can't use magic, I'm a failure." "Well, I can't help but think they're a bit blind to kick out a man as gifted as you."

You think I'm gifted? This is not true, I laughed.
