As The Wind Blows Your Scent To Me

At midnight, the small town hospital was extremely quiet.

The sound of people's footsteps and chatters outside the ward gradually lessened as time went by. The visitors had long gone home together with the hospital staff who clocked out, leaving the ones on the night shift.

Yuina remained to stay at Ryuu's bedside until her limbs felt stiff. She refused Riku's invitation to lie on the long couch together. She let the tired assistant dominate the entire couch for herself.

While Riku was already sleeping deeply, Yuina was wide awake. It was hard for her to close her eyes for a second even though her body had slowly reached its limit.

Ryuu had yet to regain consciousness. He was still lying in the same position, motionless. The doctors and nurses came in rounds to check on his condition. 

As for Kiyoshi, the boy had already woken up. Fortunately, his state was better than Ryuu's. He came to visit Ryuu's ward with his parents who wanted to convey gratitude to the unconscious man for saving their son. 

"We run out of water..."

Yuina slowly got up from the chair after discovering how light the thermos flask was. She took the flask sitting on the bedside table then brought it outside.

This small private ward didn't have a personal automatic water dispenser compared to the more expensive and high-level ones in the big cities. If one wanted to get hot or cold drinking water, they had to go out to the hallway.

There was no one guarding outside either Ryuu or Kiyoshi's wards because it would look too conspicuous that way but, there were actually two bodyguards in the area, concealing their presence from being seen. 

Riku said this should be done to avoid the worst-case scenario; journalists successfully sneak around the hallway to find the two injured actors.

The hallway was dimly lit by the bulbs hanging above the ceiling.

Most of the private wards on this floor were empty. Only a very few were occupied because even though this was just a small-town hospital, the cost to stay in the private wards was still costly. 

The only bright lights coming from the nurse station. Two nurses were reading reports while enjoying their midnight coffee. 

Yuina quickly got more hot water inside the flask. She didn't feel at ease to leave Ryuu's ward away for a long time despite Riku was sleeping inside. 

Tap tap tap.

The sound of her footsteps echoed clearly in the quiet hallway. Yuina pushed the door open to only have her body stiffened in the next moment.

The man that was still lying on the bed when she stepped out was currently trying to sit up.

"Ryuu!"

Yuina didn't forget to close the door before rushing to the bed. She tossed the flask aside, eyes scanning her husband's weak expression.

Ryuu only opened his eyes half-lidded. His gaze was a bit hazy as he stared at his hands before he slowly raised up his eyes, looking at the worried Yuina.

"Ryuu, are you hurting anywhere? Ah, what am I asking... of course, you are. But, do you need me to call the doctor? How's your head? Do you feel dizzy?"

A torrent of questions gushed out of Yuina's mouth as she frantically looked at her husband up and down.

One of her hands held Ryuu's right hand while the other was supporting his waist. She just put a light pressure to avoid putting more strain on Ryuu's injured back. 

Ryuu didn't answer any of Yuina's questions. He blinked his eyes a few times, looking confused and frail at the same time.

Yuina swallowed the lump down her throat. She felt something was off by the way Ryuu was staring at her. 

The only light that brightened the room was the night light put on the wall behind the bed. The dim light illuminated half of Ryuu's facial features. 

"That... Do you forget what happened? You caught Kiyoshi from falling then... you got injured in the process. The doctor said you have sprained your arm and your back. He would check more of your condition tomorrow before deciding the course of treatment. You also injured your head."

More and more words flowed out of Yuina's mouth but her heart sank the more she talked. 

Red alarms blared out in her mind, horrifying her when a guess popped up.

"Ryuu... Ryuu, why aren't you talking? Are you... still in shock?"

Yuina bit her lower lip, really hoping that there wasn't something wrong with her husband's brain as the result of knocking his head hard on the ground.

Ryuu slowly parted his dry lips, eyes still staring at Yuina. There was no flicker of recognition in his gaze.

When he finally spoke, the words caught Yuina off guard.

"Who are you?"

Taken aback, Yuina sucked in a sharp breath.

"Ryuu... what..."

Please, please don't tell her that whatever she had been thinking was true.

A frown marred Ryuu's forehead. His face grimaced in pain when he slowly turned around to shift his seat on the bed yet he didn't stop staring at Yuina.

"You have been talking nonstop... Who are you? Do I know you?"

Every of Ryuu's sentences showed that he was thoroughly confused with the situation he was in and the identity of Yuina. He darted his eyes around before his gaze settled back on Yuina's pale face.

"This seems like a hospital. Are you a nurse? Who's that girl sleeping on the couch?"

The more Ryuu spoke, the colder Yuina felt. 

Her body was numb all over. 

Hands trembling, Yuina forced the question out from clogging inside her throat. She was so close to bursting out crying. 

"Ryuu... you don't... remember me?"

How could this be?

Was it because of his head injury?

Ryuu blinked. He asked innocently, "Why should I remember you? Are you..."

Trailing off, Ryuu's confused gaze changed. Half of his expression was still obscured by the dim light.

Yuina gulped, bracing herself to hear whatever he wanted to say next.

In the next second, Ryuu's lips broke into a huge grin. 

"Of course I remember my sweet wife!"

He happily exclaimed. His demeanor took a 180-degree change from the moment he woke up.

"...!"

Dumbfounded, Yuina's eyes widened in shock.

"Ryuu... Did you... did you just fool me?"

Yuina unconsciously pointed a finger at Ryuu who was laughing. Her heart was pounding hard, sending a ringing sound to her ears.

"Hehe, aren't you impressed by my acting? I'm not a film emperor for nothing," boasted Ryuu proudly.

"You, really..."

"Wife!"

Ryuu lunged forward the moment Yuina's legs weakened, throwing her off balance. He ignored the sharp pain that flared out at his back when he pulled his wife to him. Yuina fell on the bed.

"Stupid... stupid, Ryuu... How could you joke like that?"

Tears finally gushed out of Yuina's eyes. She cried and pushed a fist on Ryuu's chest a few times, forgetting for a second the fact that her husband was currently injured.

Ryuu smiled foolishly. He just accepted his wife's anger. Ignoring his pain, he tried embracing Yuina who was still be mad at him. 

Well... Yuina might have been so scared when he first asked her questions like that.

"Sorry... Sorry... I just wanted to joke with you... Sorry, my love. You must be so worried, en?"

"You're a dead meat if you do that again!"

Yuina threatened Ryuu in between her tears and sobs. 

Ryuu shut up, silently hugging his wife who didn't stop crying.

He was the one who lifted the heavy rock and stomped his own feet by pulling such a prank. 

Yuina brushed her bangs away, revealing her tear-stained face. Droplets of tears wet her eyelashes. She pulled away from Ryuu then began to inspect her husband's condition.

No matter how angry she was because of his stupid joke, she still remembered that this foolish man was a patient. 

"Then... how's your body? Should I call a doctor? You did knock your head so... the doctor told me to be careful with it. Do you feel any dizziness? Can you see me clearly?"

Yuina was so close to pushing the emergency button and even running out of the ward to call for the doctor if Ryuu ever told her anything dire.

Ryuu blinked, frowning.

"En... Maybe because my head is injured..." Ryuu put one palm lightly on his head, brows still knitting together. 

Yuina narrowed her eyes, worrying about what would Ryuu tell her.

Did he was actually suffering from a headache?

Ryuu lowered his hand. He said seriously to Yuina, eyes twinkling in delight.

"I think my vision turns clearer after knocking my head ah. Wife, you look more beautiful than before. Totally dazzling!"

Yuina, "..."

It won't be harmful if she bash this stupid man's head with something heavy, wasn't it? She was so, so, so itching to do it. 

On the couch, Riku tried so hard to pretend that she was still sleeping. 

Her slumber was interrupted by the sound of Yuina's cries. After she carefully heard what the husband and wife were talking about, she had an urge to curl up and wiggle her toes in embarrassment.

Why, just why did she get a foolish and weird boss?

Riku tightly bit her lower lip and shut her eyes closed, hands fisting together.

Just pretend that you didn't hear anything... Just pretend that you're dead.

Ugh.
