#197 - The problem of prisoners?

Er woke up from a beautiful dream, and looked around to find a group of legendary powerhouses staring at him nervously.

"You..."

Rubbing his sore temples, the young man asked in confusion.

"You brat, how long did you want to sleep on the ground? Do you know how long His Majesty has been waiting for you?"

Bellowar knocked the young man on the head, and said angrily.

Er sat up helplessly, only to find that his originally naked body had been changed into a clean robe, and the ten or so deep wounds on his body had long since healed, without even leaving a trace of scars.

Looking at Fendelore standing behind Anastarian, Er understood everything that had just happened.

"How long have I been asleep?"

"Not long, only 5 hours."

The Sun King said amusingly.

"Ah! It's been that long?"

Er stood up from the ground with a激灵, looked at the bewildered young lady and the little maid who had obviously been reprimanded, and then looked at Haka's body not far away, before he recovered.

"Don't worry, I have already notified Salorian to lead the coalition forces and prisoners back to Eagle's Nest Mountain. That guy Salorian is a reckless man who doesn't understand anything except fighting. Now that you are awake, the follow-up work will need you to take charge of it personally."

Anastarian patted Er's shoulder and said with relief.

"By the way, there is one more thing, I would like to hear your opinion."

As if remembering something, Anastarian's expression became serious.

"Your Majesty, please speak freely."

"You have made great contributions to this unprecedented war. The casualties of the 20,000 ranger and mage troops were only a few dozen people. This wonderful battle is enough to make you a famous general and be written into Quel'Thalas's military textbooks."

Anastarian said with admiration, his eyes full of appreciation, but then he changed the subject:

"But have you ever thought that the trolls captured in this battle, including the old, the young, women and children, add up to more than 200,000? Even if they were 200,000 livestock, we would not have so much food for them to consume, let alone those trolls.

That's all I have to say, I hope you can make plans as soon as possible."

The Sun King gave the young man a meaningful look, with a hint of sternness in his eyes besides appreciation.

The young man sighed. He naturally understood Anastarian's concerns. Massacre may be the best way to solve the problem. In addition, the trolls' brains contain strategic resources such as magic essence. Massacring the prisoners seems to be a very good choice.

But even though he has a blood feud with the Amani trolls, with 200,000 lives in front of him, how can he have the heart to wield the butcher knife? If it was on the battlefield, that would be fine. After all, there is no right or wrong on the battlefield, but those prisoners have already laid down their weapons. Can he really kill all those prisoners?

Er only hesitated for a moment before saying firmly:

"Your Majesty, I want to keep those troll prisoners."

As soon as the young man finished speaking, everyone who was still discussing enthusiastically quieted down, pricked up their ears, and prepared to listen to what the young man would say next.

Anastarian also turned his head and waited patiently. He knew that the young man must have his own ideas, and all he could do was respect his choice, even though he was the Sun King of Quel'Thalas.

"The future construction of the Hinterlands needs these prisoners..."

The young man said, but he was interrupted by a voice before he could finish speaking.

"If we are building the Hinterlands, we only need to pick out the strong male trolls to serve as slaves. As for the remaining old, weak, women and children, I don't think we have the responsibility, let alone the obligation to feed these rice worms. I suggest killing them directly and extracting the magic essence."

Saldo said somewhat eagerly. At this moment, he even ignored Anastarian's displeased expression.

Saldo Brightwing is over 2,000 years old this year. In his long life, he has participated in no less than hundreds of battles, and the enemies he faced in these battles, except for some scattered human bandits, were almost all trolls.

Relatives, friends, subordinates, superiors, all these close people died under the trolls' butcher knives, which made Saldo a firm warmonger, and his hatred for the trolls even surpassed everyone present.

"Saldo, watch your words and deeds. It's not your turn to interrupt in this matter."

Bellowar noticed Anastarian's displeasure and hurriedly reprimanded him. Although he also hated the trolls very much, reason told him that some things could be said and some things could not be said.

On a smaller scale, massacring prisoners is a cruel and inhumane act. If word gets out, public opinion will shape Quel'Thalas into a tyrannical kingdom, and Er and Anastarian will be nailed to the pillar of shame and pointed at for the rest of their lives.

On a larger scale, if this matter reaches the ears of the seven human kingdoms, those dirty politicians will have enough reason to condemn you, and even unite together for their own interests to resist you, forcing you to make concessions in some important decisions.

These things are not groundless rumors. For example, in the Second Orc War more than ten years later, why didn't the Alliance carry out a large-scale massacre of prisoners after the Orcs were defeated, but was led by the Kingdom of Lordaeron led by Terenas II?

Even to the point of spending money and effort to build prisoner-of-war camps, but without getting any benefits, is it because of morality? Or is it because of the kindness in human nature?

Neither, these are all hypocritical masks of those dirty politicians. In fact, there is only one point, everyone doesn't want to be the evil person who massacres prisoners, so as to bear the eternal infamy.

In the end, this political confrontation without gunpowder smoke became: whoever does not spend money and effort to build prisoner-of-war camps is not humane, and whoever wants to kill prisoners is inhuman.

Then since everyone is a humane and democratic good king, then let's spend money and effort, even if we have to grit our teeth and endure raising these green-skinned freeloaders for free.

Why did Gilneas withdraw from the Alliance, and why did Quel'Thalas withdraw from the Alliance? The filth under the bright and beautiful appearance of the Alliance is much more than imagined. Since we can't afford to play, we might as well not play.

Of course, the heroes in the Alliance are different from others. These heroes are great, bright, and upright. They are the standard of all morality and the model for the people.

Like Marshal Lothar who commanded the Alliance to defeat the Orcs, General Alleria who led 3,000 rangers to provide free assistance to the Alliance, and Marshal Lothar's adjutant Turalyon, Lord Tirion Fordring of Lordaeron, etc., these heroic figures have transcended the country and become symbols of justice. They are lovely and even more respectable.

Er came back to his senses, looked at the ranger leader with a gloomy face, and then looked at Bellowar who wanted to speak but stopped, and finally couldn't help laughing.

"Er, you..."

"Actually, it's not that complicated."

While speaking, Er walked to Haka's body on his own and looked around.

When everyone saw the young man's movements, they unconsciously followed his steps.

"By the way, Grandpa, did you bring a space backpack?"

The young man stretched out his hand to Bellowar, revealing a sly smile.
